generally speaking, when a filmmaker has control over a trilogy the second film is the best. spider-man 2, two towers, empire strikes back. mainly because you have to do certain things with a first film. introduce people to the universe, develop the major players, etc. then with your second movie it's easier for you to introduce new characters into the universe you already created. and it's A LOT easier to use your existing characters. and it's easier for audiences to understand how this universe works. and in the second movie there is a lot less setting up, and a lot more action. i'm not saying action necessarily makes a better movie. but we already know this batman/bruce wayne now. we know the situation with the police, we know the situation with gotham. now we just have to see how harvey dent and the joker figure in to this situation we already have. i think it will be better. this will be the Empire of Batman movies. and if it is, it will likely end on a bad note. which is awesome. that's what life is, a series of down endings, as dante hicks would say.
