The Darkness 2

I thought it was just going to be a basic shooter too, fun but simple. However, after watching the IGN livestream, I'm really, really impressed. It's not as linear as I thought, you go to the Estacado Mansion in between missions and can talk to people, check stuff out, get sidequests.

Also, as much as I loved the first game, this game looks EXACTLY like the comics, which were much better than the first game anyway. In this one the overall design just looks better, the design for Jackie, the colour palatte. I just re-read a Paul Jenkins issue and it was exactly like the game.

Also, apaprently the co-op is really extensive. 22 co-op missions altogether :O

I was a big fan of the first and am also a fan of the comics, but I wasn't too impressed by the demo for Darkness 2. I've heard great things about the full game though, so I'll probably check it out when it goes on sale.

I rented this game today and its really fun. I love the quad wielding, the darkness powers are fantastic. The story mode is only like 9 hours long but its a good story throughout, I haven't tried the co op yet though. I really love the graphics in this game, they look phenomenal

That's really good to know.

I'll ask kalEL or one of the other mods to please have the two merged. Again. Though I'm pretty sure one of them have already seen I asked publicly already long ago. And the place you are pointing to wards isn't the way it's spelled, through both the games industry and what fans are seeing in other places. No wonder it wasn't easy to find at all in search. Correct place??? well you have put it correctly on wording too. Any way from what I'm seeing there Nathan done it there already.

I loved the first one. Played the demo for the this game and loved it. Definietly getting this one...have to get my fil of eating mobster's hearts :)

Watched the trailer recently, never heard of the prequel before, why is the art very similar to those of SMSD & EoT? Same art team working for both Beenox and the studio that brought this?
Well i just think third person would have lent itself to the darkness powers alot better.
I think that sort of games deserves this view as well

Same art team?... Similar art to edge of time?

I don't even...

At least with people design

@0:21, guy looks like a younger Walker Sloan
@0:35, kinda like Hammerhead and Vulture mix in the FPP from Noir
@0:40, looks like Hammerhead, same art style

Or was that just similar art style and different people?

I think you should research The Darkness... it saves me a lot of trouble.

For the record though, the art design of this game is based on the art design of the comic which predates the Spider-Man games by about 10 years and supercedes it in quality by about 100. The comparison I think you can make between the two games is the fact that they are cel shaded.

What does it have to do with faces here looking very similar to faces there?

Nothing about cel shading or game quality or other stuff, head art for some character's here is darn blasted near head art of some characters there, art for them look almost alike

Because if you had ever read the comics, you would know that the faces in Darkness 2 actually look exactly like the art design from the comics. Personally, I don't see the similarity you seem to see other than the darker style but even if it was there, it's far more likely that they ripped it off of the Darkness... Or they didn't and it's a coincidence, but either way the comics have been around since 1996.

I think perhaps you should expand your interests beyond Spider-Man. And I wouldn't bother with this game... If you still honestly think Spider-Man 3 is a masterpiece that's better than Arkham City, this game probably isn't for you.

Ok, I'll take it this way and say Beenox guys were inspired by this comic art and copied it

Some faces here reminded me of some faces there, close art style and pretty reminiscent models

I did, I love lots of stuff

Beep beep, I think Arkham City is a masterpiece, SM3 is below that and I acknowledge the flaws that truly are in the game, which really are flaws, but it's a great game and much better than Arkham Asylum
this game probably isn't for you.
It's not for me cause it's first person you mean? I like [Prototype], saw the trailer to this, thought third person would serve it better

Well put it this way, a 3rd person Darkness game would be about 3 times better than any prototype game :P He just has so many powers in the comics that the FPS games can't do.

That said, the Darkness 2 still does a fantastic job of making you feel immensely powerful and it's loads more faithful to the comics than the first game so far.

In the comics though he fully encases himself in darkness armour, can spawn darkness tentacles, blades, guns, you name it. He also has darkness wings which he uses to fly around. If you did that as a 3rd person free roam game it would be like a cross between Prototype and the THQ Punisher game.

The Darkness games still get it right though because he's a very interior character, that is, most of his fights and encounters take place indoors in scummy bars or warehouses, with the lights out. He's not exactly a 'fight giant monsters outdoors' type.

I never played the first Darkness but I just watched the Giant Bomb QL for 2 and I thought it actually looked pretty fun.

So far only 1 game :P, maybe it'll have the same ratio with the second

I'd love to test those

Wings, Spawn had those once
Your description is tempting, I need to read those comics, but first I must find some

Shouldn't that be extra unfair to mini scum?

Another thing I wish they would expand on is the darklings. In the first game you could have one of each type but they just kinda hung out and badly attacked things. In this one you only get one but he has more personality and talks and does much cooler stuff.

In the comics though, they were a great representation of the darkness. Whenever the lights were out, dozens would appear, all in randomly different costumes (cowboy, mafia, superheroes, pirates, etc) and just bug Jackie. I'd love to see that in the games. It'd be really cool, even if they had no combat function, just to have random little dudes spawn with a different personality each time. It'd be a great opportunity for funny dialogue too. One of my favourite darkling uses was in a comic when Jackie was sitting on a Gargoyle moodily and there was a little Batman, Spidey and Wolvie darkling next to him imitating his pose. That was always really awesome :P

Yeah the Darklings in the comics are totally awesome.

I'm happy to hear all good things about this game. I was disappointed in the cell-shaded stuff in the demo but I could get used to it. I know it's more comic-y but I enjoyed the art direction of the first game, even if wasn't like the books. Felt very gothic, which was appropriate IMO.

The first Darkness game was more like The Crow. The second Darkness game is more like The Darkness. That's the distinction I'd make :P

And yet, neither are like this:

It'd be cool to get the comic outfit as an unlockable, though.

So i played the demo was really intrigued. I LOVED snatching people up and splitting them in half. I think I'm about to run out to the store to pick this up but before i do i wanted to know are there any more executions. I saw the wishbone and that wrap and impalement thing, how many are there?

Also, can someone give me some kind of back story to what the hell "The Darkness" is all about?
