The Debates Thread - Part 1

Why is the media focusing on the "nasty" comment, as if it's some great revelation that Trump is sexist? The focus should be on his lack of any detailed answer to anything and an understanding of issues that approaches the level of a kid.

The media (even Fox's analysis) opened with Trump's refusal to accept the election results which is the biggest red flag of the debate.

I'll bet he's so glad he brought in Obama's half-brother. Tremendous impact. Yuge.

And that mother of the benghazi victim. Whoa! Good thing Trump invited her! That really destroyed Hillary. :o

When Trump says he talked to these people or that, it's hard to buy.

He probably hired 'professionals' to exploit their plight.

Part of this is....after spending a couple of weeks getting raked over the coals over how he treats and feels about women....in the middle of a political debate he has to throw out "nasty woman" at the woman he is running against. It just continue to show his attitude towards women and his being a petulant child.

Im gonna get flack to this...but is that really a sexist comment? I'm honestly asking

And let me make it abundantly clear: 1) Trump is a sexist. Clearly. 2) Trump is an idiot 3) Saying that was a move of a small pathetic, chump a-hole of a man 4) I don't support him

A man randomly calling a woman, "nasty"? Yeah, pretty sexist.

I dont see how it is really. Nasty is not a term used to primarily put down women. Or at least nowhere I've ever been or seen. If someone was to look at a black person and say "nasty" wouldnt be racist...then again if someone said "what a nasty black, etc" it would be...guess I kinda answered my own question

Again, I dont support the guy and I think it was a petty a-hole thing to say so Im not gonna get in a whole back and forth

But I do agree with Tacit. It's like pointing out that water is wet and the sky is blue at this point. It's not gonna change anyone's mind

It might have something to do with when a woman is strong, decisive, or driven she is called a *****. When a man is strong, decisive, or driven he is considered "successful" or "a good leader". This is a sexist double standard that still exists. Trump calling Hillary nasty is probably just another form of that sexist double standard. And with Trump's abundant sexism people are much more invcined to view his comment in a sexist light.

And I think we all suspect that he said "nasty woman" but what he meant was "*****".

You answered your own question. He didn't simply call her nasty, he has to emphasis that she is a "nasty woman". And he does this because she is a strong woman, a woman who has had power. That makes her a "nasty woman". It is a common phrase used to described successful women.

I obviously know that a double standard exists. But as I said, I've never heard "nasty" being used to describe a strong, decisive, or driven women. The b word, c word, t word, all sorts of words but never really nasty. And Ive moved in different circles of different races, tax brackets, etc.
But that's just me and is a reflection of what Ive been around

I've called women and men nasty before. Ive always just heard it used to describe a bad and/or gross person...or there is the nasty in the other way

I agree that it wasn't sexist per se. He called Hillary Clinton nasty and she just happens to be a woman so he said "nasty woman." It was hostile and unnecessary, but not sexist per se. However, we can spend a thousand years on the various sound bytes and printed documentation of Trump being, indeed, a sexist. So when he says something that can be misconstrued as sexist, well...

F***ing guy

Yeah, context matters for "on the fence" things like this. And the context in this case is the words are coming out of the mouth of a known misogynist, rudely and petulantly speaking over someone who is likely to be the first female President in the history of the country with a petty insult...probably because he knows he's going to lose. I'm going with yeah, history will probably look back on that as a sexist moment.

And even if you want to argue it wasn't, it still inarguably reflected someone with the emotional maturity of a second grader.

You know something I'm pissed about....my damn check from THE COALITION OF INTERNATIONAL CONSPIRACIES OF ANT-TRUMP FOR ANYTHING hasn't shown up this month.

Give Hillary a break. She is on death's door and see needs her rest so she hasn't got to the post office this month. If it isn't there by Halloween, give her a call.

Exactly. Even if someone says it wasn't sexist (it's not right or wrong to think that), it was not tactful. It was hostile and unnecessary. I'm sure Hillary thinks Trump is various expletives and derogatory terms. The look on her face during this debate confirms that. But that's something she will say behind closed doors. That is something she will say to her husband. That is not something she says on national television.

So when people who dislike Trump say that they are afraid of what he will say as POTUS, this was bonafide evidence to support their claim. It just wasn't a smart move for Trump whatsoever.

It'll amount to nothing though, I feel (and certainly hope). He'll have a storm of angry Tweets for a few weeks (and probably anytime Hillary announces something during her term) and maybe he'll try to sue somebody, but I don't truly think he'll call for rioting...

How many Gore v Bush type lawsuits can the system handle? Because I can definitely see him suing and trying to manipulate results that way.

He is going to lose so badly, that won't even be an option.
