The Departed - Reviews

Guys, Halo has a right to his opinion so let him have it without flaming him.

For the record Jackson is incredibley overrated, IN MY OPINION, but that is another thread. As for Scream being a classic or Michael Bay being a good filmmaker? No. Noooooooooo.

Thank God, I thought it was some very sloppy editing. But that's pretty much impossible cause it's done by Schoonmaker.

I liked Departed, although the hype made it seem like another goodfellas, and it didn't come close to Goodfellas.

i thought it was ok,

but the original infernal affairs is far superior

this one just lacked the clever suspense of the original, and the acting in the original was far more realistic also,

also, since scorcese changed the ending too, guess we won't see a remake of infernal affairs 3, which would have been nice

all in all though, in this instance, just get infernal affairs 1,2 and 3

this us remake is just not as good

As I said, The Departed is just easier version of IA with better storytelling and better experience.

I saw some footage from IA, and I thought it wasn't so exciting movie. Besides, I hate these none-sense scenes in usual Japan movies.

Scorsese just made The Departed look better, bloody and also more intersting for general public.

thats complete rubbish,

the movie is a rip off including shot for shot copies of scenes from infernal affairs

you call the departed "more bloody"???

what a ridiculous view!?

the movie was watered down from the original and all the suspense was removed,

if you thought "the departed" was exciting, you really need help,

Infernal affairs has more excitement than Scorcese's last 3 movies put together

lol

Scorcese needs to stop copying, think of his own ideas

guess he's going to copy the next andy lau movie too, lol

then we will see Scorcese's and the USA's "originality" in movie making

bollocks

Ok, before you even say anything like "Scorcese needs to stop copying, think of his own ideas," do a little research. Last time I checked, Martin Scorcese didn't write the script for The Departed. It was written way before he was attached to direct. So if you're going to ***** about anybody copying Infernal Affairs, blame William Monahan and WB. And The Departed was better than Infernal Affairs in my opinion.

Calm your ass down and look up the word opinion

I just saw this tonight and as a fan of the original i can't believe Scorsese topped it

Some of the shots in it were so beautifully staged it made me smile as i watched, the deal with the Chinese was masterfully executed as was the alley chase between Damon and Dicaprio, the finale is superb:up:

It's the best ensemble of performances Ive ever seen,Damon is simply towering,Wahlberg and Nicholson provide scene stealing turns in support and Vera Farmiga brings such a touch of class and heart to the movie with her performance matching her male leads perfectly

DiCaprio for my money right now is the best in the world, there is no one that combines great acting with genuine movie star charisma like him

What happened to the brown envelope Bill gave Madolyn ?

I have a feeling she was instructed to give it to Dignan.

I assumed there were instructions for her to give it to to Dingam

^^^^^^
As did i guys and was expecting a shot of the brown envelope in Damon's apartment after his death but when that didn't happen i wondered if maybe I'd missed something

What happened to the brown envelope Bill gave Madolyn ?

It was a "just in case".

If Billy couldn't bring down Sullivan himself (the rooftop setup) then Madolyn was to give the information in the envelope to Dignam to bring down Sullivan himself.

Remember, the CD with the voice recording wasn't addressed to Madolyn nor was it intended for her to hear. That was for Sullivan to hear and eventually lead to the meeting between he and Costigan.

I agree, but for my money, Ed Norton is the king of the world.

Glad you liked it. :up::up:

I bought this on DVD and didn't even see it in theaters. I knew it would be great, but I was still shocked at how amazing it turned out to be. Scorsese did an outstanding job. Damon, DiCaprio, and Nicholson gave stunning performances. Wahlberg wowed me. Just a great cast all around. This is definitely one of my favorites, and as of right now it's at the top of my list.

My mouth dropped open when DiCaprio and Damon were in the elevator and the door opened and DiCaprio got shot. Didn't expect that at all. Also, when Sheen was thrown from the roof. So many shocking monets in this.

Goddamnit I need to see the movie again. I haven't seen it since november. The DVD comes out in May over here which is ridiculous.

I was under the impression that she kept the envelope to herself and Dignam figured it out by himself(seeing as how he was the only one who knew).

I'm glad you liked it.
The only gripe that I have is that you didn't see it in the theater.
IMO, the movie is at it's best in the theater.

I really wanted to go see it in the theater, but I never got a chance to. :csad:

How was Dignam supposed to figure it out? The only way Costigan was able to realize it was because of the "citizens" envelope.

I just saw it last night and I must say that I agree with everyone else on how great this movie is. The acting was superb and the movie was tense as hell with loads of twists. [BLACKOUT]I was especially surprised when it turned out that Costello had another rat in the police departement[/BLACKOUT]. The only complaint I have is that [BLACKOUT]they killed off every leading character at the end[/BLACKOUT]. I was kinda hoping one would make it out alive. Still a 10/10.
