Age of Ultron The Design & Origin of ULTRON

You haven't seen the *alleged* new Ultron prop that was at comic-con?! It could be fake though.

I don't really think that's from the movie, though. Why would Marvel bring a movie prop to SDCC (that wasn't part of the AoU display), and leave it sitting in the back of an open truck? It looks to be so straight from the comics, and different from the images we've seen, that I wouldn't be surprised if it was just a statue from a merchant or part of a costume that someone left out.

I didnt get the ULTRON body in some truck. Was that even Marvel Studios related or just some model a fan made?

an update to my ultron i made in blender 3d a while back. added some wiring textures and lighting.

Well. Well, well. The plot thickens.

Official Marvel synopsis has an interesting take on the origin story:

Marvel Studios presents Avengers: Age of Ultron, the epic follow-up to the biggest Super Hero movie of all time. When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure.

Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Robert Downey Jr., who returns as Iron Man, along with Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk. Together with Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, and with the additional support of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, the team must reassemble to defeat James Spader as Ultron, a terrifying technological villain hell-bent on human extinction. Along the way, they confront two mysterious and powerful newcomers, Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen, and Pietro Maximoff, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and meet an old friend in a new form when Paul Bettany becomes Vision.

Written and directed by Joss Whedon and produced by Kevin Feige, Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series The Avengers, first published in 1963. Get set for an action-packed thrill ride when The Avengers return in Marvel’s Avengers:Age of Ultron on May 1, 2015.

"DORMANT peacekeeping program."

Hehe. As soon as I read that line, I kid you not, my first thought was: 'Sam's gonna have a field day with this. :)

So if it is dormant, does that mean someone else invented it and Tony Stark just reactivated it? It doesn't sound now like Tony actually created Ultron himself. So who is the creator? Hank Pym? Or is it something related to Armin Zola and Hydra (but then that doesn't make sense about a peace keeping program since they wouldn't want to keep the peace).

It was rumoured in this film Andy Serkis will be playing Professor Phineas T. Horton creator of the Android Human Torch who appeared as a Easter egg at the Stark Expo in the first Cap movie.

Horton could of been a ally of young Howard Stark so the peacekeeping concept could of also came from them seeing as Marvel seem so desperate to distance Pym from any involvement with Ultron.

I don't know why they are determined to keep Pym away. Anyway, Horton seems more likely to have created the synthetic body that could be used for Vision (which would be the Torch) rather than the AI for Ultron.

Either they are keeping Pym unconnected from Ultron because they want to take the character in another direction or for undisclosed plot reasons.

Alternatively Pym might have some lesser role in Ultron like he was based on his work and Marvel are doing a Mandarin in IM3 or Khan in Star Trek Into Darkness type swerve .

"Peacekeeping" is likely a euphemism, just like virtually every other time in recorded history that the military has (mis)used the term.

To paraphrase Fury's address to Loki at the beginning of the Avengers: "You say 'peace'.....I think you mean the other thing."

My guess on the "dormant" thing is that they may try and tie Ultron to Pym in some way after all. Maybe just some sort of precursor or laying the foundation for him in someway. Though Stark is still the one who gives it a major upgrade and his brain patterns.

Where did the Horton rumor come from?

Let's take a moment and sit back... How does everyone feel about Ultron now? Like his physical appearance? Remember there was a lot of worry based on what Joss said?? (Turns out... TWICE now, regarding Ultron.. joss has his way with words)

Anyway, his appearance seems to definitely resemble the comics... More so than we expected. Since we've had time now to let it sit, how do you guys feel about his look?
Say... Out of 5? I absolutely love it

The Ultron revealed on the EW cover is a solid 5/5 for me it's perfect and that's not even his final form. Now that's what I'm eager to see.:woot:

^ Yep the EW cover is perfect for me 5/5 kind of hope it's his final form(and is actually in the movie, it could just be a representation for the magazine), but im sure that wont be revealed till much later

I feel like they wouldn't have showed it if it weren't a form of ultron at one point. It was a fully rendered model and not concept art. That said, I wo der how many evolutions of him we'll see.

Having a Tony Stark revive a dormant Ultron created by Pym would be a great way of keeping everyone happy. It makes it Tony Stark's story and his struggle as he deals with the repercussions of his hubris, which makes sense given Stark's role within the MCU, but also gives Pym his place as Ultron's creator to keep things in line with comics canon.

The big question now is :

Who is Ultron going to call "Father" ?

Or does he have 2 dads ?

Would that make Ultron Canadian ?

I hope the final form of Ultron isn't James Spader's physical appearance.

Spader will most likely mo cap for Ultron's final form judging from the SDCC description of his final form. I doubt it'll look like Spader though, probably just using his facial expressions, like Ruffalo does for the Hulk.
