I also suggest if the Diamond list is fuzzy, checking www.midtowncomics.com . That is the website of THE biggest comic book chain store in Manhattan (next to Jim Hanley's Universe, although their two locations are in Manhattan and Staten Island; Midtown is exclusively in Manhattan, at Time's Square and Grand Central Terminal, big hubs). They order EVERYTHING. Usually many copies of everything. If you're looking for a back issue of TALES OF THE TMNT (a Mirage series that barely outsells BETTY & VERONICA), they'll like have a few. They're usually always up to snuff when Diamond isn't on lists.

Okay, this... is... wierd. I complain and complain because I can't stay under $25 a week, and then I get a week like this? Well... awesome. At least it's 2 books that I look forward to so the 20 minute drive to the comic shop will be worth it. I might even be able to get caught up on some comics this week. As of the time these come out, and probably the next time I'll be able to get to a comic shop, I'll be just shy of $100 behind.

edit - Just read the speculation on titles missing from the list. I guess I'll see what's out when I get to the comic shop that day.

Man those foil covers where just coming out of the trees....

You kidding? Image helped INVENT that whole trend of variant/foil covers in the 90's, and collectable #1 issues. Their nostalgia for that period is clearly because they miss the sales from that time, when they were about 10-15% of the industry. Now they're about 3-4% of the industry on a good month. Much of the gains of ground that Marvel and DC have made since 2000 have been at Image's expense.

But, yeah, Image is returning to that style of thing. HAUNT #1 had at least 5-6 variant covers. Considering IMAGE UNITED is basically "a story like it's 1994 all over again!", I'd be surprised if it didn't have a million covers.

Although to be fair, with both Marvel and DC, variant covers have become the norm, not the exception, to try to slow the rate of diminishing returns per issue. They're not helping as much as they did even 6 months ago.
