"The End of the Beginning," - Smallville forums memories thread

i also have that first clark action figure that was released yrs ago.

I always hoped that they would release a Smallville video game. I heard about an online RPG, but I don't know what happened with that. Maybe after the series is over they'll have a game for the major consoles where you can go through the same journey towards becoming Superman that Clark has gone through in the past 10 years.

It won't happen now, that's for sure. Smallville doesn't demand enough rating's & popularity to make any gaming company believe that the selling of such a game will sell well. Back from season 1 to 3 I could see them thinking with dollar bill signs in their eye's but I just don't see it happening now, unless the 10th Season kills the competition in the rating's & get's back to it's 8 million viewers range.

A Smallville video game wouldn't do well. Nobody wants to be a Superman who can't fly.

Disagree, true fans won't care because they know it's not a Superman game, it's a Smallville game. true fans will enjoy playing along & feeling responsible for playing along side Clark on his journey. However if they did make a game & the company were dumb enough to sell it as a Superman game then they deserve what they get.

Steve

It doesn't matter what the true fans know/think. The game would bomb with the general audience.

Never said it wouldn't, I was disputing that it wouldn't fail because Superman can't fly, since it isn't a Superman game, you don't like my response? tough.

Steve

They can call the game Smallville for all they want but people would still refer to it as that Superman game or maybe Superboy game. I've seen people refer to the show as Superman.

I've definitely had a love-hate relationship with the show.

It premiered a few days after my grandmother passed away, which was also a mere few days into starting my freshman year of high school. My mom and I would watch it every week. It was definitely a comfort zone. This lasted for about 2 and a half seasons. Midway through season 3, I just fell out of interest (it wasn't all the show's fault; I'm very bad with keeping up with a weekly show). When season 5 was about to start, I felt like getting back into it so I bought all previous seasons on DVD and got myself caught up.

Staying with it didn't last long, again. I was getting frustrated with what I felt was lack of progression; the show definitely seemed like it was dragging it's feet. I didn't understand the focus on Lana - I didn't find her to be a very likable character (especially in light of Lois, who's fantastic); I thought..why are we spending so much time with a relationship we know doesn't last?

Since then, I've really just kept an eye on the show from a distance, tuning in on occasion if there was going to be a cool guest spot or character appearance. The JSA episodes last year really excited me, and I thought they were well done. The build up to the Suicide Squad really caught my interest, too.

With the promises of this season, I'm definitely optimistic. I'm looking forward to seeing Deadshot in the next episode; he's one of my favorite DC characters and I hope they do him justice. Same with Darkseid.

For all my gripes and fanboy displeasure, the show has nailed the heart of Clark Kent, and that's what's most important. I know I'm going to get emotional during the series finale, I expect that the image of Clark in the suit is going to choke me up. I liked Superman Returns, but it really is Smallville and Tom Welling that is my generation's Superman. I'm 24 now, and I feel like I've grown up with this show, even if I haven't always watched it regularly.

Unlike Lost, a show I absolutely adored for most of it's run but so utterly disappointed me in its final moments, Smallville is a show I eagerly anticipate being able to buy the complete series on Blu-Ray and revisit with my kids someday. Warts and all, it seems like the journey might be heading towards a very satisfying conclusion.

I actually started watching Smallville in June 2004 around the same time I joined the hype. I had actually been hanging around for a while looking for any news I could about the new Batman movie. It wasn't until my brother in-law gave me the first season on DVD that I finally joined the Hype looking for a place to discuss. I was addicted from the first episode, and Lex immediately became my favorite character. I couldn't even imagine the show reaching 10 seasons!

yea i too have loved and hated the show through its run. They have done some great things with the story and characters. Then other times they seriously screwed it up royally. But even with the bad i think overall the show has had many lasting good things.

We were talking about this in the Lazarus thread, and I thought considering the circumstances as the premiere of the finale starts tonight, it would make a nice stand alone thread.

In this thread, we can talk about our memories of the show, of the friends we've made on this board, that sort of thing.

So to get us started I'll repost what Kal said, as he said it really well:

It's been a wonderful ride. :hrt: :supes:

It has been a great ride. This thread has really changed over the past few years (negatively unfortunately) but I'll truly miss it.

My fondness memories of w/ you and Kaboom trying to take over the world and me and Triplet as your minions. (still never got paid you know)

- To Kal-El8 , lol I always considered SuperLudacris as my arch-nemesis too.:awesome:

Started watching this show when either Season 2 or 3 was about to start. I actually borrowed the DVD's from my uncle, after him recommending to my mom to watch the show. So all of us watched it and loved it. Been watching the show since. Their was a period where we did stop watching it, but we caught back up after awhile (I'm thinking it was Season 6 or 7.)

I agree about getting Clark Kent down perfectly. Tom Welling will always be my Superman, even if he isn't on the big screen. I'd love to see them make a Smallville movie where he's actually Superman, just-cause he most likely won't be him on the big screen, but ah well. Fanboy wishes.

I prolly will get a little choked up when the show ends in some form. I hate to see this show end, as I've watched it while growing up and TV just won't be the same without Smallville, for me.

another thing i am going to miss when the show is over is chatting online with friends about it and talking about new episodes/spoilers with my one uncle who watchs the show too.

I never got any money for that plan either. Maybe we need to sue.

I was all for taking over the world and making sure it's legally mandated that Tom Welling always be shirtless...

(I'm pretty sure Boom and Brainy were in complete agreement on that...)

;)

I remember being on Staff Study (A kind of guard-duty while in garrison) in Korea and had just purchased the Superman Animated Series on DVD. My driver was a female soldier maybe 19-20yrs old and wasn't too happy that I was forcing her to watch a cartoon about Superman. Anyway it starts out of course on Krypton fast forward to the space-ship and when it's just about to land it passes a sign that reads "Smallville". This chick looks surprised and says to me, " Hey that's just like the show!! They stole that from the show Smallville." I couldn't stop laughing. I seriously had to explain to her that Smallville was a show about Clark Kent who becomes Superman. She had no idea. This was around '03 during season 3 I guess.

lol. I had more devious and sinister plans so perhaps It was a good thing we didn't succeed at taking over the world.:cwink:

one very nice highlight smallville is always going to have is being the first to have certain dc heroes/villains appear on live screen tv like green arrow, the wonder twins, granny goodness, darkseid, doomsday, etc.......

Probably wouldn't have worked like we would have liked: I bet there's a lot of paperwork involved in running a planet.

So, it's probably for the best.

Idk. Stalin didn't seem like the type of guy that dealt w/ paperwork. I forsaw the 'Boom Brain regime like that. Of course as Master of Australia I had planned on overthrowing them.

<-----------------------blksuperman2 can't be trusted. Muahhahahahahahahaha.

No, you're right. Stalin probably didn't deal with a lot of paperwork, but then again he only ran most of Eastern Europe, the Balkans and east into Siberia.

However, I think taking over the rest of the planet would require at least a few forms get filled out.

Yet in the hinterlands of Australia, maybe you could be a rebel and refuse to get a number 2 pencil and use an ink pen to fill in the bubbles instead...

Season 4 is one of the most critisised seasons. But it had one of the most awesome premieres and finales.
Season 4, while not the best, has some of the best episodes of the series. I started watching in Season 4, along with the reruns on ABC Famiily:yay:

They need to air re-runs again

HDNet shows three episodes chronologically every day.

I've been with Smallville since October 16, 2001. And while I definitely dug the series and its take on Superman, I didn't become a die-hard until "Rosetta." From that point on, Tom Welling was my Superman (and I grew up with Christopher Reeve!)

I came to the Hype in the summer of 2004 mainly to help defend people in the old Superman forums who had the nerve to suggest Tom Welling should play Superman (yes, I am a decorated Casting Wars vet.)

Back then, none of us were in this forum. Memory recalls that the SV OGs (ie, Hulk, Pat, Zing, Rene, Trip, etc) were actually frequenters of the Superman forum until we were cast out. In fact, I created the "Official Welling Thread" here because the one we had in the Supes forum was unceremoniously shut down.

Ah, those were the days.

Lately, I don't post here as often. Like most of us, life's changed a lot since the start of the show (and even since I joined the Hype). I've gotten married, moved to a different state, changed jobs several times, had a kid, published a book. I've even had the pleasure to actually meet or talk with people in front of and behind the camera at Smallville. I've even met some of the faces behind the avatars here.

So, for the last six years, this board has definitely been like an online community (our own pre-Facebook/Twitter "social network") and it will be both sad and joyous that day in May when we finally see Tom Welling become Superman. Joyous because, well, Welling as Superman of course. But sad because there'll be no more new episodes to look forward to, but worse still, no more spoilers, news and speculations to come on here and debate about. I don't know the fate of this forum after this season ends, but it'll be hard to see it vanish into the ether.

Pssh, what is this paperwork. All it involves is having a base in a volcano while we sit around a large metal meeting table laughing maniacally...right?

Ok, so all I learned about being evil came from the Austin Powers movie apparently. :p

Seriously though, I'll miss many of the people I've grown to like around here. I got into Smallville at the premiere of Season 3 and have watched every week since.

In fact my wife never understood why I liked Superman so much. (she wasn't into comics or the character or anything) I got her to watch Smallville with me, and after a couple of episodes she was hooked. Now she has me explain to her about any new characters that appear on the show, as she doesn't know who most of them are at the time.

So yea, my wife was introduced to Superman and the wonderful world of DC through Smallville, where now she'll read a comic now and then for backround info on a character. For that, Smallville will always hold a special place in Superman history for me.

Not to mention my wife loves Tom and would agree with Trip's shirtless rule.

I remember the show starting right after I graduated high school, I was so stoked for a new Superman show. The first 10 minutes had me hooked. At the time, I wasn't on any message boards, but I was doing alot of computer gaming, so I always talked about it during matches.

I came here during S4, that's when the Clana videos/photomanips slowed and the Clois ones started heating up. That's when I was introduced to this crazy bunch of people :woot:. Although I never really had lengthy discussions on here, I did however get to meet several of you. Since then, my username has changed like 3 times. I actually befriended Mr. Brainiac 8 on XBL, and we talked about a few episodes during some gaming sessions.

Probably the first BIG memory I had, was the night we were all watching the season finale, and also counting down the minutes to the Batman Begins big trailer. All the promos that lead up to that night, and how the countdown in the episode also served as when the trailer would arrive.

None of my friends understood my love for this show. But during S5, I got at least 7 of them to watch it. It was tough tryin to explain 5 seasons to them, and all the characters. But they soon started watching, and are now fans.

I'm truly going to miss this show, because aside from only 2 other shows that I'm hardcore into, I don't stay focused on much TV. Each time I think about all the early episodes, I can't help but replay that Lifehouse song from the Pilot. It just seems to be the most fitting for those first several seasons during his high school years.

You people have made this forum fun. Sure it's been crazy at times, and arguments happened. But that was only because we all shared the same affection for the show. I'll miss this part of the boards after the finale.
