The Environmentally Safe SWAMP THING Thread

Thanks! I once mentioned the idea to Bernie Wrightson (he had me over to his house one day a few years ago -- but that's another story!) and he said he considered the original 10-issue run he did with Wein to be the definitive version of the character, and that everything that came after was apocryphal.

DC fans will doubtless disagree, considering that the later Moore run is one of the finest melding of mysticism and sci-fi attempted ever in that or any era of comics.

But given how drastically different the later incarnations were from what Lein and Bernie initially conceived, it would make sense to keep the concepts in separate films.

He's such an underrated character. I have to buy Swamp Thing comics whenever I see them, no matter who's writing them. Hes one of those characters where you just cant get enough of.

Yay I'm so glad someone bumped this. We do need a swamp thing movie! There's so many great horror directors out there at the moment that could do great things with him

I wonder if Jennifer Kent (The Babbadook) would be interested in directing this

I think they should do a Swamp Thing movie but only after he's been introduced in Justice League Dark.

Now that he won't be Hellboy again, get Perlman on this. He's perfect for it.

I would love to see swamp thing in justice league dark. I would even be happy to see batman team up with him for a bit at one point (maybe in his solo since Bruce is on the main team)

I would be on board in a second if DC green lights Swampy to the big screen.
I think treating his movie as a horror piece would be the best thing to do in the present superhero landscape.
Really noone has touched on that yet.

Oh my gosh that gorgeous arts.

Also, thank you for the A+ pun (greenlighting)

I'd rather see a confrontation. Swamp Thing is a character best rendered solo.

As a fan of both the original Wein/Wrightson treatment and the '80s Moore/Bissette/Totleben/Veitch/Alcala revamp, the movie should incorporate elements of both, but emphasize the classic story "The Anatomy Lesson."

Save Batman for the sequel, when the GCPD pick up Abigail and Swamp Thing transforms Gotham into a ginormous overgrown garden. That's when Batman shows up (as in the comic).

The material is there. It only needs to be adapted. A lot of the good directors are tied up with other projects. Del Toro already walked away from JLD. Derrickson's stuck with Marvel for now. Wan's doing Aquaman.

Annihilation director Alex Garland says, if given a chance, he would like to direct a “proper” movie version of DC’s Swamp Thing. The half-man/half-plant “elemental” creature Swamp Thing first appeared in 1971 from creators Lein Wein and Bernie Wrightson. However, the character took on its most familiar form much later under writer Alan Moore. Swamp Thing possesses superhuman healing due to his ability to reconstruct his own body using available vegetable matter. A later run of Swamp Thing books by Mark Millar gave him command over the elements fire, earth, water and air.

I love this idea!

I think Garland could do this character justice. I would LOVE to see a truly dark, serious take on Swamp Thing.

Yeah and if anyone can he can. He would be perfect. You could see from 28 days later he can do horror and high concept

WB should be on the phone with him right now.

Check the main page. There's a Swamp Thing TV series in development. James Wan attached, along with writers from BATTLESTAR, DAREDEVIL and IT.

Now this could be something special.

Yes! Great choice for Wan. I love swamp thing. Although if it’s telly there goes my wish to see Forrest Whittaker as Alec.

This is definitely one of those projects I want to see a ton of women writing, directing and producing on. It would be great to see a nuanced and interesting Abigail. She’s what really sells the horror and the story writing
