It was first mentioned by the entity to animal man in untold tales of blackest night but what is it, then johns/morisson collab, the event of 2012 (which makes sense) please tell me your opinions

Well, with crossovers I never get into the stories much because I am always dreading some character I like will get killed. A title like "The Extinction" certainly sounds like it could be a stupid kill-fest.

I'm pretty sick of the "lets up the body count so it will seem like the story is serious" attitude myself.
