Let's hope the title of this RE film means that this version of the franchise will DIE .
I'm so sick to death of studios treating games like garbage. Why can't studios give games the 'comic' treatment and make a good/great game to film adaptation.
Without a doubt, IMO, the most high profile game to film adaptation is the Resident Evil series. Now, when i first heard that there was going to be an RE movie, I was reallky looking forward to it. Then, i we got some scrren shots of the film. And some info leaked out about it. I thought, 'sweet jesus, what are they doing to RE.'
But, i still had to give it a chance. I watched it, and after that, i really wanted to beat the living ***** out of Paul Anderson and the studio execs. How could they turn a brilliant games franchis into a terrible movie franchise.
To this day, i don't understand how the studio (Sony believe it or not) could turn down this script done by horror genius George A. Romero:
The script: http://www.dailyscript.com/scripts/resident_evil_romero.html
This script was faithful to the game, but also seemed to add depth to the characters. Sure, some things seemed altered, but you expect that with an adaptaion. I would have loved to have seen this.
Instead we got tha Paul W Anderson treatment. He ended up producing and writing the sequel, which was worse than the first film, and now he's writing the the third, Extinction. Paul Anderson should never be allowed anywhere near a camera again.
Since i've seen the first 2 (only the first one on the cinema, the other in another method ) i will see this third installment (through another method ). But, i just know it'll be piss poor.
Hopefully, a good director will come around in the near future, and see the potential of the RE series and give us something that is both fun, scary and intrigueing.
And hopefully, games in general (the good ones) will get the treatment that comics are getting.
