Damn. At least it didn't explode/shatter. What's the easiest way to protect yourself?

It's a scary thought. Imagine you playing your computer with your face close to the screen and it explodes, pieces of glass stabbing your eyes and face. That'd make a good death in a Final Destination movie. The easiest way to protect yourself would be to NOT play your computer during a thunderstorm. Take no risks. I should take my advice, but I just can't get off now, for whatever unknown reason.

Either a plane just flew over my house or a major lightning struck near it because my entire room shook for a split second.

Buy a surge protector. :) They sell them built into most computer extension wires that have all those outlets on them. :D

That would be very hard in the middle of a crucial part of a game, especially those that don't let you save regularly. :cmad:

Or that.

I don't know if I need one here in the UK. I'm too lazy. :(

Guess I'll just have to read a book instead whenever the weather turns bad.

That happened to my husband while he was playing his Playstation. He knew the storm was there but couldn't shut the dang thing off. The power went out and he lost his game.

No, never. We don't live on an unstable tectonic plate, unlike many of you. :p

They protect you even if the computer is off. Even with the power off, your computer is still connected to the electrical system in your house. You can get a damaging surge if your computer is on or not if your whole house gets overloaded.

What can you do when that happens? Normally I would curse anyone involved in creating the machine or the game. Cursing against nature isn't the same. :(

Not here, but I've felt minor earthquake tremors on holidays. It's quite unnerving when the walls of your room start shaking.

Maybe I should look into it. I wish I wasn't so lazy. :(

Scream into a pillow. Let out your anger. I do that whenever my GBA shut down suddenly because of the powerless batteries or whenever I miss my scheduled shows.

I made a mistake here on the Batman issue numbers, Lex. It's 655 and 656. Those are the two most recent issues. :)

Go to any computer store and say I want a surge protecter. They got for about $30 US and they are worth every penny. :D

OK I better warn my pillow. It's in for some serious punishment.

One further question: are you ok if your computer is unplugged from the socket?

Changed. Thanks for telling me beforehand or I could've gone home with two less books. :yay:

I would think so, yes. :D

I'm too lazy to unplug my computer. I just leave it on along with my surge protector and with the plug switched off.

Do your plugs have buttons for switching on and off?

Looks like I'll be staying indoors. I told you - any excuse to be lazy. :p

Matt Groening is a bad influence on all of us. He practically invented lazy when he invented Homer.

I don't know, I think so. I have a surge protector and I never shut it off or unplug it. I just shut my computer off and leave. :)

That is what our plugs look like. You can see the ON/OFF button. It's currently OFF, before you ask.

Are yours anything like it?

Nope. That looks nothing like mine. :)
