The Fast and the Furious: Hobbs and Shaw

I think the entire franchise is based on getting more ridiculous. I think people asked the same question when this happened.

They literally said screw it and introduced actual super villians with super powers. I know the stunts in the past films were out there but goodlord is that subplot stupid

It works with the tone, though. And I like that they are like "you know what? Screw it, let's get REALLY crazy".
I mean, when I saw the 6th one I thought it was the dumbest thing I had ever seen, so it was long overdue.

For some reason in a non superhero movie it just comes off rediculous.

I cant deny though it looks fun and the rock and jason have really good chemistry

Basically it's implying that the universe was always like this, the first couple movies were just in their own little bubble. If all you do is penny ante street race you don't know about nuclear subs and super soldier assassins and all that ****.

A very Tango & Cash feel to it, which is no bad thing at all....

I think I would watch Tango & Cash over this if I had to choose.

This looks in line with the last couple F&F movies. Way over the top and just pure testosterone. If Shaw is now supposed to be some super spy, I hope we some scenes with more finesse.

Why finesse, though?
Even as a super-spy, he should keep his rough demeanour.
No need to turn him into James Bond.

Oh absolutely, T&C is a 'benchmark' for trade-off, snappy dialogue actioner, both Stallone and Russell on top form, this just has the 'feel' of that, not the same level by any stretch.

Without Vin Diesel they can finally not take themselves seriously at all. It's clearly a tongue in cheek movie.
Kinda like an updated, over the top mash up between Tango and Cash and Commando.

I honestly just want them to make out by the end of the movie. You can cut the sexual tension in that trailer with a knife.

Jesus this looks like all kinds of insanity even more so than the last Fast movies, but the dynamic between Johnson and Statham looks like so much damn fun. Idris as the villain looks really badass too and I love the fact that they pretty much gave him an Iron Man suit in this movie lol.

My kind of action movie, over the top bonkers action and a badass looking villain.

I see they are going full scifi. Now I am going to be super disappointed if they don't go into space.

I will admit, I laughed way too hard at that final gag, with Statham taking the elevator.

These movies really started to get fun, and make oodles of cash (and become more critically praised ironically), when they embraced the dumb and absurd and just had fun with it. And this looks to be more of the same (not a bad thing BTW).

-The Rock and Jason Statham as two badasses who are also an "oddball bickering buddy cop team."
-Idris Elba essentially playing a supervillain who can take the both on at once.
-Vanessa Kirby as a government agent/spy and Shaw's sister.
-Funny dialogue/character interactions.
-Over the top fun action sequences.
-A completely shameless disregard for the law's of physics, motion, and the human body.
-Etc.

Seems like it'll be a heck of a fun time.

I have long checked out of the Fast & Furious franchise.
I tried and watch one of the later movies, maybe the 5th or 6th, not really sure... And the level of dumb fun action was so outrageous to the point where i couldn't even watch 5 minutes of the movie. Totally zoned out.

This new thing is just another one of the series. I watched the trailer and it just didn't do it for me. More of the same stuff, over and over... I'm out. Maybe if it's on tv one day i'll watch it but otherwise have no interest whatsoever.

My 2 cents.

This looks crazy! :funny:

The tone is slightly different than the Fast movies, maybe the directors influence, and I wasn't expecting the super soldier stuff which is another rung up on the ladder of absurd for this franchise, but it looks like a lot of fun. :D:

I can see the Tango & Cash comparison's given it's a more antagonistic buddy buddy pairing than say Lethal Weapon or Bad Boys, and the action loooks big and bold and reminds me a bit of the A Team movie, plus Vanessa Kirby looks a good addition, hopefully wee see Eiza Gonzalez in the SB spot. My only gripe is the locations look dull and grey.

Just curious, what current action franchises do you like?

With Vanessa Kirby in this, I half expect this to be part of the MI universe for some reason lol
