The Fear Of The Wrestling Thread Is Far Greater Than The Wrestling Thread Itself - Part 151

Rob Van Dam recently appeared on Chris Jericho's podcast, Talk Is Jericho. In part 1 of his interview, RVD revealed that he almost re-upped with TNA last year, but they essentially took too long to get the deal signed.

RVD noted that his three-year contract with TNA ended last year. He said that even though they used up all of his dates, he liked that they continued to book him because it meant extra money. He said that he renegotiated a new deal with TNA, and that they "talked about every single term."

He said that he was really looking forward to the deal, but then the company started slacking. They would keep telling him that they would call him, only for the call to never come. They kept passing the blame around as to why the deal was taking so long until RVD had enough.

"I got to a point where I was offended," RVD admitted. "It struck my ego. So I was just like, 'Well, screw them!'"

RVD said that he then reached out to WWE. He said that during his most recent run, he enjoyed working with everybody, but he really put over working with Alberto Del Rio and Cesaro. Jericho brought up that Vince McMahon thought Cesaro was boring at one point, and he thinks that Cesaro will become a huge star. RVD noted how "super impressed" everyone is with Cesaro's natural strength.

RVD also said that he liked working with Samoa Joe, Jeff Hardy, Abyss, Kurt Angle and AJ Styles in TNA. He regretted not having a good feud with Styles. RVD noted that a lot of guys in TNA could "step up" and go to WWE, but he noted that a lot of guys don't see that as stepping up.

So WWE is planning a St. Patricks Day segment with Sheamus for tomorrow. Shocking....

Well it will be better than the time he was here in san Antonio and tried to get the fans to sing along to deep in the heart of Texas. That was Judy in a movie we don't really do that

What would make it better is if Finlay would return and beat him with shillelagh and tell him to "STOP BEING A ****ING STEREOTYPE!"

Finlay is too busy teaching talentless divas like The Bellas how to improve in the ring to worry about that :funny:

I still think a Finlay managed stable consisting of Sheamus, Cesaro, and Barrett as tough guy, no nonsense, ass kicking foreign brawlers would work........

Meh. Foreign tough guy heels. #NOBUYS

Keep in mind that Kevin Kelly was once forced to stick his finger up his nose while interviewing the Rock.

No matter where he was forced to stick his finger, there is no justification for calling Adam Cole the best wrestler in the world. :oldrazz:

I have several problems with what the guy said above:

- First the "exploiting the injury" comment. That happens in WWE. Think back to Bryan vs Sheamus, 2 out of 3 falls. Bryan injures Sheamus' arm and focuses on it throughout the match, and Sheamus sold it throughout the match. And in the last month, wasn't Bryan's arm injury attacked for weeks?

- Second, the guy is using Cena/Rock in his example, which is a very poor example for so many reasons. That feud was all smoke and mirrors and not a true rivalry. The reason it felt scripted is because it was. All of the Rock's single matches in his return were rehearsed apparently.

If he wanted to use a good example, he should've used CM Punk/John Cena, the best rivalry of the last few years. Their first big epic match was called in the ring, according to CM Punk. They weren't hated enemies, but competitive rivals who were out to prove who was better. And in that context, a lock-up made sense. That rivalry built on every match, with both guys knowing each other well and finding way to counter each other's offense. Look at their NOC match: After hitting the G2S twice with unsuccessful results, CM Punk resorted to the Rock Bottom, the move that beat Cena at Wrestlemania 28. And in their last match, the two knew each other so well they resorted to new moves to throw each other off. Cena pulled out the sit-out powerbomb; CM Punk pulled out a piledriver; and the Cena used a hurricanrana before hitting a second Attitude Adjustment.

- Also, didn't Bray target Bryan's head in the match quite a bit? Didn't the commentary mentioned the rumors of Bryan having a concussion? It made sense to me, especially when you look at how Bray beat him--a Sister Abigail into the barricade. Bryan is thrown for a loop and can't comeback, and a second one in the ring for the win.

- What idiotic restrictions on movesets is he referring to? The removal of certain high impact moves, particularly to the head? If that's it, then I definitely can't agree since the company is looking out for their talents' well-being in doing that.

- So puro doesn't have multiple finisher kickouts? I thought that originated in Japan before coming to the States?

I had to wonder if the post you were replying to from KO Bossy came from that god awful DVDR site.

Anyway, you covered more than I was even thinking of counter-pointing with.

Okada is a Paige fan! ;)

Good to see Punk smiling again.

On another note, I wonder if the WWE.com article on the potential of a 6-man tag team championship could lead to anything?

I remember WCW had one for a bit back in 90/91 I think. Can't see a point myself, I know The Shield have provided consistently good matches in the format but it doesn't require a championship.

So hot, and talented to boot!

What would make it better is if Finlay would return and beat him with shillelagh and tell him to "STOP BEING A ****ING STEREOTYPE!"

Lol! I could dig a Sheamus vs Finlay feud.

They're not talentless, they have their skills, it's just what they're good at is not suitable for pg tv.

Watching Wrestlemania 27 on the WWE Network. I know there are worse matches out there, but man is there a duller Wrestlemania main event than Cena vs Miz. What the heck where they thinking with that one?

Punk and Cena never main evented Mania together, but this did. Shake my freakin' head.

I'm now increasing Sting's chances of signing with the WWE to 50/50.

That match live wasn't.....bad, but just boring. One of the weakest main events in Mania history for sure. We were basically sitting on our hands until Rock came out.

I still think the ME shoulda been UT vs. HHH at WM 27 even though their match at WM 28 was a lot better.

I kinda wonder if they still stick with the Battle Rumble on the Preshow does that mean more people than just Daniel Bryan will pull Double Duyt. IDK what they are going to do with the Tag Team Tittle match after SD the other night I was thinking they were hinting at a Fatal Four way for those Tag Titles With The Rhodes Brothers The Uso's The New Age Outlaws and The Real Americans.

Even before WCW, Crockett had a 6-man title going back to the mid 80s (although, apparently there have been variations in the NWA going back to the 70s). I remember the Koloffs being champs, and the combination of the Road Warriors and Dusty having a couple of title runs.

I always thought it was a silly concept. About as useless as the Western States Heritage title. lol

Cena and Miz had no chemistry in that match. By the time they clicked even a little, they pulled that BS ending. On top of that, the match was overshadowed by Rock.

Miz's intro video and entrance was good,rest..not so much

Worst Wrestlemania main event ever. And I put with Hogan Vs. Bundy, Hogan Vs. Sid, and Bigelow Vs. Taylor!

Re: RVD

I enjoyed his feud with ADR. Their Hardcore Match was solid.

Now for ADR, I highly recommend him changing his presentation to that of a vicious grappler and less of a kicker. Doesnt seem to fit him despite guys like Ziggler being a good foil for his style.

I think the Audience would be willing to get behind him if he wrestled like a vicious grappler/submissionist considering his connection to ADR. I mean look at how much they are starting to get behind Cesaro since the leash isnt as tight on him.

Work on building suspense for that armbar. So people will be more engaged when he finally uses it.
