The only reason it occurred to me was Fox's habit of making shows of faith whenever a bad story came out about the production, like them announcing a sequel when the BC story about Fox trying to replace Trank came out.

We've certainly seen examples of them being willing to lie to make things look a certain way. I just think in this case the effort vs benefit is a little off since they would end up with contradictory posters etc.

I don't think they'd go as far as adding confusion and potentially losing ticket sales sales due to that confusion.

However, if a story was 'leaked' shortly after Trank's Star Wars firing indicating that people at Fox thought he had done a great job and they were seriously considering him to direct future Fox films, that wouldn't surprise me.

Reason I lost interest in this particular film is because its looks like the first Tim Story, with the un-appeal color pallets of gray and brown.

It seems a lot like the plot of the Story movie too, which sort of undermines any appeal it has as an original and "reimagined contemporary" version. I'm open to change, but this movie seems to be recycling things from the previous films: Doom getting powers from the accident; Doom only really becoming a villain in the final act; and I suspect there's going to be something of a Doom-Sue-Reed triangle here too based on how Sue seems to be sitting with Victor in a lot of scenes.

Never thought I'd be posting in this thread but it looks like three months of reshoots couldn't fix this film based on the embargo date.

I just feel sorry for everyone involved in the production... except for Josh Trank since he's the guy who ruined it.

Any hope that Fox could fix the problems in the 2017 sequel is now gone. This is three strikes. Fox need to give the rights back to Marvel in exchange for the X-Men TV rights. Preferably with shared rights to the Shi'Ar and exclusive rights to the Brood thrown in just so Marvel can have all their cosmic stuff in one place and if Fox also give up their rights to merchandising in exchange for a promise by Marvel to market Fox's X-Men films, I'd appreciate that as well.

I wonder if it's time to close this thread and let the negativity flow, since negativity is the norm, and rational response in light of current events, and optimism, at this point, is the exception and probably what must be confined to a single thread :D

So, now that Fox have messed up the 616 and Ultimate FF, does anyone actually think that the Fox will still go ahead with the sequel or that if Marvel get the rights back, that they'll actually bother to reboot the FF in the near future?

I'm excited for the movie. I don't deny that it had a troubled production or that it could be bad. We won't know until it's out. I find this pity sentiment rather condescending, though.

The only way this doesn't get a sequel is if it fails commercially. 45 million or below will probably indicate commercial failure.

BayTurtles got 65 million OW in the same spot last year and that got a sequel greenlit.

So if you're hoping for a rights reversion, better hope it makes 45 million or less OW.

I doubt there will be a sequel at all. Even if this thing breaks even, the momentum will be non-existent.

Best case scenario is Marvel getting the rights back, and kickstarting a reboot in time for phase 4 (fitting actually)

Worst case scenario, Fox holds on to the rights and make another half assed reboot by the reversion period.

Most likely scenario is they sit on the rights until they naturally expire and Fantastic Four returns to Marvel that way. Thankfully, by that point the likely stink of this film will have dissipated at that point.

I don't think that the rights will naturally expire. Fox want their X-Men TV show. Expect the FF to come back home alongside the X-Men merch rights and possibly also the Shi'Ar and Brood.

Remember when Marvel got the rights back to Ghost Rider? Was he part of the Phase 3 announcement?

It should be called FFNEIN---Fantastic Four not even in name ---since they were ashamed of the name and labled it Fant4stic.
That would work great for German fans.....
FF? NEIN!

TMNT also made nearly $500 million worldwide.

Could be a possiblity, but reasons I don't think that will be the result is

I don't know if Marvel wants to go through that. I don't think they would try and forfeit their chances of getting Xmen back, as a Tv show will make it a ton harder for the rights to one day return. I don't know if they feel the Fantastic Four are worth it. Plus aren't the Shi'Ar part of the Xmen contract?

A part of me feels New Mutants was their tv pitch, but because Marvel wouldn't play ball with their demands, they decided to make it a film set to be released in 2018.

It's just kinda sad that people are in denial about this. I've never seen this in all my years posting on forums. This production is CRAZY legendary.

Shrugging off posts on LSU forum over Thanksgiving break? Sure. I get it. It's a forum.

But NOW?! With the Star Wars debacle, THR's story, the leaked Kinberg/Pascal email, the embargo... Why act like there's nothing wrong? I'm baffled.

Yeah, they are part of the X-Men contract. They're also characters who Marvel could presumably use from the X-Men rights alongside Taskmaster and Juggernaut. I feel like exclusive rights to the Fantastic Four, Taskmaster and The Brood, 100% of the profits from X-Men merch and shared rights to the Shi'Ar, Viper and Juggernaut is a fair trade since the X-Men weren't coming home to Marvel any time soon but clearly Fox weren't all that enthusiastic about the FF in the first place and they can easily sell them back since this film is set up to be not just a bomb but a dud.

Clearly you don't know what's going on here. THR is just a tabloid, Kinberg and Trank are incapable of lying, the actors on this film can't be trusted if they confirm months of reshoots, and reviews are meaningless which means review embargoes have nothing to do with studio confidence. :o

Seriously though, it's embarrassing the level of denial some supporters are in. I coined a term for the condition but last time I used it I got a warning...

Well it's nearly over now. Fox will start a major push soon and that may get people thinking this is going to do something, then we're likely to see a few reviews that indicate it's not terrible, and enthusiasm will probably peak at that point.

Then more reviews will come in and it will be clear that, while it might not be terrible, it won't be good or exciting or fresh or original.

It will probably do okay on opening weekend. Compared to other, general films, its $40-50 million opening weekend will seem good and it will take the number 1 spot, but that will quickly drop off and it will end up less than $120 million domestic and less than $300 million worldwide.

Fox will spin the results as positive, but internally they'll be very disappointed to see that this film will cap a steady slide in FF film box-office receipts since the first film.

Plans of a direct sequel will be shelved (and since Marvel won't let them do a crossover, that noise will go away). Marvel likely won't throw a lot at Fox so the rights will go back into vague limbo and we probably won't hear any more about it for several more years.

At least that's my guess.:cwink:
