In the comics Ben does not gain a huge amount of height. He's tall already.
Here, he goes from 5'7 to 8 foot. Wimp to brawler.
What happened to versatile genius to man whose body is extremly versatile?
Tough guy to super tough guy.
Hot- headed teen into extremly hot.
But hey, Tranks reimagining goes the full gamut for poor Ben. Pre- looks, post- looks and personality. All " improved" by the wizard of twitter.

I believe what Marvolo is saying is that Ben Grimm is wearing a rock suit, so there's no reason he'd have exposed genitals. He's like Iron Man, only the suit's rock instead of iron. The voice not changing would seem to reinforce that he hasn't phycially changed.

If he was encased in rock, I can understand why he'd be tougher, but I don't know why he'd be stronger. He'd still have the same human muscles. If anything, you'd assume he wouldn't be able to move at all, with tons of rock all over his body.

Yes. Which is why "he's incased in rock" doesn't make him sounding ridiculous or him walking around naked sound or look any better.

Human Torch isn't really on fire! He's being surrounded by billions of tiny nuclear explosions that SIMULATE being on fire!

Well, he could have clothes on underneath the rock suit :)

Another TV spot out with the Thing talking, and again no voice modulation. Looks like they are really planning to use Bell's real voice.:loco:

Idk about yall but if I was covered in rock and that strong I wouldnt cover up. Whats the point? There is nothing to cover up, and **** what anyone else thinks about my exposed rock body.

Humans only started wearing clothes as a means of protection from the elements and later to preserve modesty and express social stature. Ben's transformation makes it so he neither needs to worry about protection from the elements nor does he have a need to protect his modesty from sensitive prudes and he isnt an aristocrat who needs to dress up. So what is the point? To hide the fact that he doesnt bave exposed genital? Since no human would ever have sex with him it doesnt matter whether he has rocky genitals. So again, why would he need to hide the fact that he doesnt have rocky genitals?

He is covered in rock. He is already "covered" up. Putting clothes on top of it is just redundant.

But you're not Ben Grimm. Ben Grimm is a very defined person with a very defined personality. The film-makers are completely remaking him and changing every aspect of the character.

For those of us who want to see the character we know and love, that's a problem.

That's insane. It sounds so awful in these spots. Even worse than I could have imagined.

I dunno, I'd personally want some pants if I had to go around as a giant rock guy forever. Wearing clothes brings a sense of comfort and humanity.

But you aren't Ben. That's kind of the point.

Ben isnt real. He can be as emotionally confident as the writer wants him to be. Yall want him to be embarrassed about something that no longer has any baring in his life. Yall want him to cover up to hide from others that he doesnt have genitals that he couldnt use anyways.

If anything Trank has given us a more confident pragmatic and logical Ben who realizes the reality of his situation, and doesnt let the opinions of others bother him.

I don't understand how that voice would come out of that body. It ain't right.

Clothes bring us comfort because our skin can be irritated and hurt. Be's skin is rock so he doesnt have to worry about that. As for his humanity, humanity isnt defined by pants.

You sound like the kind of person who would enjoy a "reimagined" Superman who fights for Fuhrer, Racial Purity and the Third Reich way because the director wanted to take us in a different direction. :whatever:

But I thought this was an adaptation?

I don't know who this character is you're talking about but it doesn't sound like Ben.

I don't understand how that voice would come out of that body. It ain't right.

The sound of a person's voice isnt based on the overall size of the body. It has to do with the vooce box, interior of the upper chest cavity, and nasal cavities.

I do think his voice should have altered at least some. The size of his head and the placement of his eyes means his skull changed. So even if his vocal chords stayed the same and the inside of his mouth is soft tissue his voice should have a different resonance.

And Bell doesnt exactly have a deep voice to begin with. Not really sure why no one at Fox realizes how out of "sync" the boice is with the character.

Holy 616, have you ever read Ben Grimm? That's the exactly the opposite characterization of Ben Grimm post accident.

One of the most beloved comic characters of the last 50 years obviously needed changing. As long as he looks like he's made out of rocks fans shouldn't care, right?

Reminds me of when Lauren Shuler Donner said Barakapool was given those black eye scars that kind of looked like his mask in the comics as a way to keep the fans happy.

Awful. Friggin awful.

Ben Grimm should sound more like Louis Armstrong than Jamie Bell.

When we found out Jamie Bell would be Ben, I thought: "Well, he doesn't look anything like Ben, but once he becomes the Thing, it won't matter that much because he'll be the Thing then."

But now we're stuck with this voice? He should have at least done a tougher, Brooklyn street-tough voice as Ben and then he could have carried that through once he became the Thing.

This film is going to get laughed out of theaters. It doesn't matter if you're an FF fan or not, that voice is ridiculous.
