 I believe the idea was that Earth-A was in an alternate dimension as opposed to Counter Earth which is in our actual Solar System but on the opposite side of the Sun.

. . . but I'm really taxing my memory here, and even when they first came out, it took me a couple readings to figure out what was going on.

Yes, that's exactly what it was.

Counter-Earth was a creation of the High Evolutionary on the opposite side of the sun in the same orbit as Earth, and it figures into the original Warlock series. It's also where the Brute - Reed Richards of Counter-Earth was introduced.

It also introduced the concept of Warlock as a Christ figure to Counter-Earth -- which eventually plays into his multiple resurrections in the Infinity group of mini series and later Warlock appearances.

The Earth-A version of the 4 I believe only had Reed and Ben go up in the rocket ship -- Reed becomes the Thing and Ben gets Reed's powers and ends up marrying Sue. Johnny was thought lost in the Vietnam war, but I don't recall just how he ended up as Gaard with no recollection of his life as Johnny Storm.

The synopsis that I've been checking out just says Johnny was "thought to have been killed in Vietnam, but was rescued and reformed into Gaard by Arkon." They didn't mention what a crazy massive random coincidence it was that Johnny was the one who ended up being Gaard.

So...... from given what we've seen from the TV spots and trailer (as well as all the developments with Trank and Co. in the last few months), I can say with 100% that all the rumors were true.

Trank's vision was a mess, he was a nightmare in and off the set. And most importantly, Kinberg did rewrite the third act, and the third was reshot (practically in full), primarily to add more action to what was a largely actionless film. This, led to the rumored heavy addition of VFX, as well as revisions of those Trank completed and came out terrible. And of course, to the cancellation of the 3D conversion (due to time AND budgetary constraints).

Not a single rumor proved falsed.

As well, according to the soundtrack listing, it's still a mostly actionless film.

It's apparently going to play out fairly similarly to the first movie.

Yep, and remember one of the very first rumors? The leaked synopsis that said the military was using them as weapons? Josh Trank himself 'debunked' that one, but now it looks like it was true.

Just about everything that was reported as rumors is turning out to be true and everything that Kinberg and Trank have said in response is turning out to be BS.

So this film is basically going to be mostly the Four hanging out in a military base learning to use their powers and arguing/conflicting with jerk army cliche archetypes, all the while Doom is a background threat that gets strong enough that they all have to work together to stop him? Is that basically the jest of it?

"Oh, that rumor isn't true... so go see the movie!"

*after the movie*

"Hahaha got you to pay for a nonrefundable ticket, suckaaaaaaaaaa!"

I believe that's close.

Yup sounds like the basic gist of it

I am curious how their apparent strategy of misrepresenting this as an action film will work. People may show up on opening weekend, but then what? Will one weekend be enough?

So I'm starting to think this movie may not be very good.

Anyone else thinking the same?

I'm excited about the fresh take for the fresh audience!

If there were just jest in the gist, we could have justice.

Their is gistice if you no where to sea it. Alass many gist cannot stand to take the thyme to do sew. Open you're hart to this aversion of the Fantastic For and yew will be pheasantly surprized. " Nuff sad"
