The International Press Academy announced its nominees on Sunday for its 13th annual Satellite Awards says The Hollywood Reporter.

More notably though its the first of the award groups to announce a Top Ten list for the year. That list in alphabetical order includes: "Ballast," "Changeling," "Doubt," "The Dark Knight," "Frost/Nixon," "Frozen River," "Milk," "The Reader," "Revolutionary Road" and "Slumdog Millionaire."

The six films nominated in the motion picture drama category are "The Reader," "Slumdog Millionaire," "Revolutionary Road," "Frost/Nixon," "Milk" and "Frozen River."

The six nominated in the motion picture comedy or musical category are "Happy-Go-Lucky," "Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist," "Vicky Christina Barcelona," "Tropic Thunder," "In Bruges" and "Choke."

Both "Slumdog Millionaire" and "Milk" lead the list with six nominations each.

The Academy also announced its TV nominees with "Brotherhood," "In Treatment," "Primeval," "Life on Mars," "Dexter" and "Mad Men" competing for best drama series while "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," "30 Rock," "Pushing Daisies," "State of the Union," "The Colbert Report" and "Skins" compete for best comedy or musical series.

The winners will be announced at awards ceremonies on December 14th at the InterContinental Hotel in Los Angeles' Century City.

I am sure the main Oscar nominations will be given to Milk, The Wrestler, Frost/Nixon and The Dark Knight, with either Milk or The Wrestler most likely winning The Best Motion Picture and TDK probably winning The Best Director.

i think tdk has to be nominated for best pic justbecause of the records it has broken..... if not then i will truly be suprised

Star Wars broke records too...

All I care if Heath Ledger wins Best Supporting Actor. That's long due for Heath.

I'm gonna be biased on Angelina Jolie for Best Actress, I haven't seen new movie of hers but damn I want her to win.

So you haven't seen her movie but you want her to win because she is hot. So I'm assuming you're 12 or stupid. Or both.

And Star Wars was also nominated for Best Picture.

So was Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jaws, I believe ET.

Babe a film about a talking piglet was nominated, Beauty and the Beast, a children's cartoon was nominated. Why can't The Dark Knight. I'm sick of hearing because it broke records or because it's a comic book film. Instead of looking at it's popularity, look at it to why it's popular. There's a reson why it reached out. Plus, nearly a billion dollars and praise from critics can't be ignored.

Why are you worrying about this? No one is selling TDK short anywhere except in your head.

I understand his position, it's just not fair that because TDK is a huge summer comic book blockbuster, it doesn't deserve at least the nomination.

I don't think anyone doubts TDK will get several nominations.

I just mean the academy's attitude. And what I also meant was the set backs of it being nominated brought up in choices lists.

I am talking about the MAIN nominations such as Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay.

I think Best Picture is a lock, Director and Screenplay categories have tough competition but I think it's definitely possible.

The Dark Knight
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Milk
Slumdog Millionaire
Revolutionary Road

I'm hearing one similar thing about Frost/Nixon, Doubt, The Reader so far. The acting is better than the rest of the movie

I hope TDK wins a bunch of oscars as it is truly a very unique film imo.

There is a slim chance the Academy will give TDK noms for things other than fx, music and cinematography, but to most people regardless of how well done the movie was, it's still Batman.

So far, those my my predictions for Best Picture.

Much better then a slim chance, it's almost certain IMO

Those are just off a 5 minute search. I'd say most will have TDK on there ballots. The movie is much more then a comic book film.

And also, you must look at the word of the upcoming films. You can't just say, "oh Dark Knight's a superhero film/summer blockbuster, it won't get in". Judge this fairly, and then track the films coming out soon that could take a spot away from TDK. I really don't believe they will pass up dark knight if it isn't warranted, and so far it doesn't sound warranted.

Well I can gurantee that the Dark Knight will not be nominated for best soundtrack.

THE DARK KNIGHT may very well see a lot of Oscar nominations when they're officially announced on January 22nd but there's one thing TDK won't be nominated for. THE DARK KNIGHT has been disqualified from the Original Music
Score category by the Academy
of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. While this may surprise you, the move isn't unprecendented - BATMAN BEGINS
was similarly disqualified in 2005. The reason give by the AMPAS for the disqualification was that five names - Hans Zimmer, James Newton Howard, Alex Gibson, Mel Wesson and Lorne Balfe - were listed as composers on the official studio document that specifies all music in the film. Warner Bros., looking to avoid another DQ, prepared a signed affidavit from all five parties stating that the majority of the work was composed by Zimmer and Howard but that wasn't enough to convince the AMPAS. The reason all five names were listed on the documents to begin with were to financially reward
those who helped make the score successful. So while Zimmer and Howard did the noble thing to help out lesser known artists, they'll get the shaft come Oscar time. For shame.

It's a shame. The TDK score was incredible.
