Very curious if Aquaman bombs badly too, the original still made a billion dollars, but I haven't heard anyone say "Man I am really hyped for Aquaman 2!"

It does look really bad for Aquaman, the audience that even acknowledges this iteration of DC is shrinking and shrinking. Maybe Blue Beetle can do a bit better since it's all new.
It's weird with Aquaman 2. I enjoyed the first one a lot. But I think I've rewatched it only once, and I've no desire to do so again. And I'm not at all hyped for the sequel. Not because the DCEU is ending, I'm just not excited for it.

True that.
Everything that could go wrong about this, gone wrong.

You got a lead you couldnt promote the movie with.
A writer strike so you couldnt bring anybody to talk shows etc.
A Reboot that pretty much ruined for many the interest in anything else DC related.
Reshoots etc because 3 different regimes wanted this to end on 3 different notes.

And so on.
There was not a lot it had for it.

Like i dont think it was as bad as it looks it is...but i cant blame anybody for not being super into it for various reasons.
Not to mention audiences are clearly not going to spend their money on anything that looks mediocre anymore. Ant-Man, Indiana Jones, and Elemental all proved that.

I'm still shocked but not too surprised, after seeing the movie, at how audiences are flat out rejecting the movie.

At my former workplace, opening weekend for this had two screens available. Second weekend, it was cut down to one screen and the largest one given back to ITSV. And after tonight, it's down to one showing a day in the small 24 seat auditorium until they drop it next Friday.

Flash dropped out of the top 10.

Deadline didn't even mention it in their boxoffice report.

The boxoffice run is over.

Wow, if only there was a word to describe how quickly this movie fell out of the top ten

Yup, it lost a ton of theaters and isn't in the top 10 now with just $2.2m this weekend. It's already behind Asteroid City and Teenage Kraken (which is a massive flop itself).

I can’t believe how much Gunn was praising this thing.

So final call is over-under $280M worldwide hanging on a potential early digital or streaming release in the coming weeks.

I'd say under. It lost a ton of screens this week and MI:7 comes out next week so it'll probably lose more than half its remaining screens.
It'll be all but gone in 2 weeks as Oppenheimer and Barbie come out eating up a huge number of screens between them.

Well, it wasn't just Gunn.

All of the geek pundits praising, this after cinema-con, is pretty awkward in hindsight , as well.

Though, I could concede that alot of them may have genuinely loved it , but still, the response by the GA is pretty much the opposite.

Looking across the interweb, particularly Reddit, opinion on the movie seems a pretty even spread. There are those who loved it, those who hated it, and plenty who thought it was 'all right'. For what it's worth (nothing) I gave it a 7.5/10. I think the box office numbers are unfairly harsh in terms of quality of the movie.

Would WB ever try to make another Flash movie? This movie is one of the biggest bombs WB has had. I think if this movie wasn't connected to the failing DCEU, didn't have a criminal as the lead and was a more traditional Flash story featuring a romance with Iris and features a traditional Flash villain, it would have done better, IMO.

Them praising it, and it tanking are two different things.

Gunn can still think it's the greatest comic book movie ever. It's box office doesn't change that.

This. It's not the greatest. But it's certainly not the worst.

The MCU has released far worse just last year. This just became a punching bag, and the box office is the "proof" those who wanted to pummel the DCEU had.

True, but that point is irrelevant to what I was discussing.

I was discussing how awkward the praise of the film by geek pundits when the GA ,wasn't enthused by the film.

I wasn't talking about the tanking of the film box office wise.

My point was about the pundits praise being out of sync with the GA, not about the Box office.

Though the GA, not being into the certainly is connected to why the film is bombing.

The bomb that was GL was released in 2011, and we are more than a decade without anything GL related being produced.

This is a bigger bomb than that, it's safe to say you can forget about anything Flash for a good decade, and forget about Barry Allen's Flash for good.

Like GL and John Stewart, the next Flash will likely be Wally West centric.

I'd agree if Miller's Barry Allen was anything like the comic book counterpart. They can keep Barry Allen but give the character a completely different more comic book accurate personality.

The box office rarely ever is a fair reflection of the quality of the film.

I didn't particularly care for The Flash, it was neither particularly good nor particularly bad IMO. It was a nothing film of which I could probably rattle off a dozen other superhero films that I'd group in a similar sort of category.

I'm all for moving onto Wally West the next time we see The Flash on film.
