That particular power is not ridiculous but Superman in general has had some ridiculous powers and power outputs. Which is one of the reasons I've never really been a fan of his comics. As far as that particular ability extending a force field just far enough for his costumes protection seems pointless. He's always been portrayed as invulnerable. I don't see the point of adding another facet of the same power.

It's just an explainer for why his clothes don't get shredded that also adds a little bit of a pseudo-sciency explanation for how is invulnerability works. It's not about making him more powerful.

It wasn't an "extra" power. He had the "aura" instead of invulnerability, because plain old invulnerability was seen as too silly.

Basically after Crisis On Infimite Earths Superman had three powers:

Telekinesis
Heat Vision
X-Ray Vision

That's it. However his telekinesis simulated his classic powers and when at rest, the telekinetic field extended just beyond his body.

According to Liama it's actually worse because they changed his core powerset. Telekinesis is a different powerset all together in my opinion. It can mimic super strength but that so not the same ball game. The difference is like playing football in with friends outside and doing it online with those same friends.

No it's not. It's just a different explanation for the exact same thing. In practice his powers are exactly the same.

There is no way they are the same, one is mental and the other is physical. Any feat of superstrength in those circumstances is a parlor trick, a cheap illusion.

Anyway this is a costume thread for the Flash and I rather not derail the ongoing debate of spandex or no spandex.

On Superman's suit:

Have the cape be from krypton (hence its indestructibility while loose), and have the rest of it be made from Ma Kent based off kryotonian designs to look as close to a suit his ancestors would wear as possible. It's form fitting because his aura can protect it as it's not super thick or loose. Done.

And the Spider-Man suit wrinkled and had some folds in it too guys....come on.

I actually like it when his cape gets shredded and he has to go back to Smallville to get a new one from his mom. I think it's kind of cute. Superman and kind of cute go well together in appropriate doses.

Every costume thread:

"This suit should be more like the comic"
"The comic suit wouldn't translate well to film/tv."
"Yes it would, with the right materials."
"No it wouldn't. Why does he wear that anyway? Skin tight suits are gay."
"(BS technical explanation for skin tight suit)"
"No you're wrong."
"No YOU'RE WRONG."
"You're an a$$hole."
"NO YOU'RE AN A$$HOLE."
"You are all a$$holes." -C. Lee

"This suit should be more like the comic." - new poster

Sounds about right.

What if the suit was blue?

Not sure if serious, but we've seen plenty examples of a Blue Flash:

Blue isn't a bad look on the Flash but it doesnt quite scream speed and excitement the same way red does. I think this is what makes the Silver Age Flash's costume so iconic and enduring: a pretty sleek and simple design that immediately depicts "speedster"

I think blue has always worked for Quicksilver.

It's almost ironic that Flash is the best looking speedster to be featured on film and his was done on a tv budget.

I think applying real world logic to whether or not a character needs a form fitting suit is missing the point.

The purpose of the costume should be whether it communicates something about what the character can do and what he stands for when he's standing still. I'd argue that Flash's costume, with its lightning bolts, wings of Mercury, treads on his boots, and sleek, streamlined look gets that across really well. Frankly, it's one of the best designed costumes ever from that standpoint.

Whether or not the show's costume gets across the same points is really what we need to be asking.

TV movie featuring The Trickster during the run of the original series.

I like the costume I just hope the ear-bolts get bigger eventually to break up the head shape and it gets a little more yellow/gold in it.

Well out of all the speedsters getting the live action treatment this year, The Flash does look the best as far as costumes go. Might not be saying much, but still...
