The Flash The Flash Costume Thread

I have no problem with the costume. It looks like the Flash to me, and it looks waaaaaay better than the other live action takes on the character. However, the yellow belt does improve the design, but I wouldn't complain if the design for the suit never changed. I'm just happy that the show is as good as it is.

Well, Superman's suit is more expensive and Tom Welling didn't want to wear it:

Why is it more expensive than Hawkman, Dr Fate, Booster Gold, and Blue Beetle? It's actually a much simpler suit and once again Lois and Clark got it done.

I'm not saying it needed to equal the Returns or MOS suit but they could have built something for the Smallville verse.

Welling wore the damn jacket. What's he problem with the suit. You don't see Routh *****ing about his Atom suit.

I hope we get to see an early stage development of the Flash ring

They had a suit (a modified returns one), and Welling would have worn it if he was told to. Not fully showing him in it had to be a creative choice on the producers' part (which is what they claim) OR perhaps there was some conflict with WB's film division, who didn't want the Smallville producers to show it (there's no evidence for this, but it's what it always kind of FELT like to me).

It had nothing to do with cost or Welling not wanting to, that's for sure.

Using Atom's tech would be a good way to make Flash's ring.

Sigh. Smallville has so many weird theories about what happens behind the scenes. People get so passionate. I was just reading one today, where someone said the lack of a Superman suit was a way of 'getting back' at the fans, because, clearly, that's what showmakers try to do, stick it to the fans. :loco:

Tom was an executive producer, he had decision making power. Also, producers still have to stand by actors' contracts, and part of Welling's stipulations for being on the show was that he not be Superman. That's where no tights no flights came from. The producers that weren't Tom Welling are on record that they wanted to do away with it, but they needed Tom's approval. Between him being an EP and his contract, he could veto that. There's evidence of that. By your own admission, your viewpoint isn't based on evidence.

Watching 'The sound and the Fury' again, Barry's cowl midly irritated me a bit when he met Hartley the first time - it was skew and loose on his nose...

Btw, being mildly irritated best not be construed as 'hating on' etc - I just think it was noticeable and could have been done better.

Someone did have a good question as to where his chinpiece go when he pulls the cowl back - thought it funny because the answer in my head is "you're right, where does it go but we already know the answer - who cares/suspend disbelief" :D

I find the magic cowl amusing... I found Dr. Wells' cowl removal mildly irritating.

He has one more suit left, hopefully next season his costume gets updated. The material of Supergirls top on her costume would be great.

I wish they'd fix the magic cowl instead of having it transform into a leather hood. It'd be so easy - just make a special version of the cowl in a super soft material that's flexible enough to be pulled all the way back over his head, OR, replace the leather hood with a specially sculpted "cheat" cowl that is sculpted in the shape of a pulled back cowl.

If Supergirl can have a suit with that material, then there's really no excuse why Flash still runs around in that leather gear. Hopefully he gets his update soon.

Is supergirl going to be a standalone show or is she gonna be part of an already developed dc show?

I love these movie like posters we're getting for this show. Why don't they do this with ARROW???

I don't know why but, the Flash's posters are amazing yet Arrow's look like bad photoshop.

Having seen the new mask for a few episodes now I can say that I prefer the old mask with the wider mouth opening. The new one drowns Barry's face too much IMO, the sides of the mouth or cheeks are too thick, resulting in more of a bobble head look. It does look better from the side on the new one but face on I don't like it.

I think the issue here is the same issue the designers of Captain America's costume in Avengers ended up with.

While in animation a one piece looking suit looks terrific, here is Cap for example

It really doesn't bode well in live action, or at least hasnt yet.

Here's cap in avengers 1 compared to the flash

As you can see they both suffer from the "bobble-head" look. Thick cowls, and a thin neck area. Idk why we haven't had thinner cowls in this day and age. I feel like Wilkinson and his team perhaps have come up with the perfect cowl in BvS, but more images are needed to say yes for sure.

In Winter Soldier, they corrected this with a more streamlined suit by opening up the neck area and making the cowl a helmet. Which totally works and looks better imo. The chin strap adds to the jawline and in terms of practicality makes sense.

With this technique, you are allowed to thicken the neck area by opening it up more, but can also thin the "cowl" by making it a solo piece.

Now i found this concept art online a little while ago, and i don't know who the artist is unfortunately. I'd love to give them credit if you folks know who it is. While this concept is terrific i think it'd still suffer from a thick cowl and thin neck area, making it look awkward in live action. What do you guys think about Flash potentially having a strapped helmet rather than a cowl? I think it works but better in live action. If anyone could manip it to help others visualize what i'm saying.

What do you guys think?

??? Man,there's no point in that. Maybe at first before he was cast, when they were still trying to convince him. But then ? No tights, no flight rule. They only bent that rule for the last episode.

Did anyone get a good look at future Flash's costume in the most recent episode? Only difference I could see was the White symbol, was anything else different?

That white emblem is enough of a difference maker for me. I'm mad the comics are moving away from it and taking a cue from the TV show. Even the show's own canon acknowledges that it's a proto-Flash suit. White emblem with yellow lightning = iconic. Anything else for Barry Allen is a step backwards. I tolerate it on the show though because it's just a small detail among a lot of other good stuff that balances things out but I do hope the movie Flash has something more familiar in terms of threads. I want to see scarlet not burgundy.

Hate New 52 Thawne's "square" emblem too.

I loved seeing the comic book Flash suit in the flashback sequence. Hopefully we see it come in season 2 or 3.

It looked like the New 52 suit to me.
