I just got the original Friday the 13th from Amazon today. Only two more titles until my 100th blu-ray!

I am dying to add the Friday the 13th movies to my collection but I am still waiting for that eventual boxset which you know is coming. And yes I am only interested in the Paramount ones. :) Even though Jason Goes to Hell wasn't that bad.

It is indeed good, but don't expect to feel to happy on life for a little while after watching.

A lot of my favorite movies are depressing so it sounds like I would actually like it a lot. Plus I think Aronofsky is a talented director.

The Paramount/New Line reboot was pretty cool if you ask me.

Agreed, and then, yes, you will enjoy it. The musical score is top notch, hence its fame

Yeah, the soundtrack for Requiem ranks among some of the best of all time in my opinion. The track Lux Aeterna has been overused and remixed for other mediums way too much and has become slightly overused in my opinion, but it's still an awesome track

Oh yeah! I am loving this announcement. I wonder why no Team America though? Seems like they should both be released together.

South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut BD Announced
Soccer moms and other upright citizens, take cover. Paramount Home Entertainment has announced that it will release the irreverent and profanity-laden animated movie 'South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut' on Blu-ray on October 13. Video will be 1.85:1 1080p with a Dolby TrueHD soundtrack, accompanied by English, French and Spanish subtitles.

Extras include:

* Commentary by Matt Stone and Trek Parker
* Music Video: "What Would Brian Boitano Do"
* Three theatrical trailers (in HD)

Buy a Blu-ray Player for $50 and Change *DEAL IS DEAD NOW*
Midwestern retail chain American TV has just dropped the price of the Sherwood BDP-5003 Blu-ray player to a mind-boggling $50.09. It can be picked up at any of its 15 retail stores in Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri and Michigan, or shipped anywhere in the US (with additional shipping costs). Stock is probably limited, so act fast.

With regard to the player itself, it is similar to the other budget players around. It is BonusView (Profile 1.1) compatible, and supports advanced audio codecs (Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio) via bitstreaming.

I wish Paramount would put in more special features on their catalog blu-rays.

Here's a great one: Universal has just set John Landis' An American Werewolf in London: Full Moon Edition for DVD and Blu-ray release on 9/15 (SRP $19.98 and $26.98). The Blu-ray is a loaded BD-50, while the DVD is a 2-disc set. Extras will include two completely new bonus features: The 100-minute Beware the Moon retrospective documentary (featuring Landis and Rick Baker) and the I Walked with a Werewolf featurette. You'll also get the previously released features, including audio commentary with cast members David Naughton and Griffin Dunne, 4 featurettes (Making An American Werewolf in London: An Original Featurette, An Interview with John Landis, Make-up Artist Rick Baker on An American Werewolf in London and Casting of the Hand), outtakes, storyboards and a photo montage. The Blu-ray will also feature BD-Live access. Audio is Dolby Digital 5.1 on DVD and DTS-HD MA 5.1 on Blu-ray.

Cool? Well, here's another good DVD and Blu-ray announcement from Universal... the Army of Darkness: Screwhead Edition streets on 9/15 as well (SRP $19.98 and $26.98). Both versions include the Creating the Deadites featurette, an alternate ending and the film's theatrical trailer. The Blu-ray will also include BD-Live access. Again, audio is Dolby Digital 5.1 on DVD and DTS-HD MA 5.1 on Blu-ray.

Guess what else? Universal will release Van Helsing on Blu-ray on 9/15 too (SRP $26.98). Extras will include commentary with director Stephen Sommers and editor/producer Bob Ducsay, a second commentary with Richard Roxburgh, Shuler Henley and Will Kemp, 6 featurettes (Van Helsing: The Story, The Life, The Legend, Bringing the Monsters to Life, The Music of Van Helsing, Dracula's Liar is Transformed, The Art of Van Helsing and The Masquerade Ball Scene "Unmasked"), the You Are In The Movie! and Track the Adventure interactive viewing options, bloopers, "Monster" eggs, D-Box enhancement and BD-Live access. Audio is DTS-HD MA 5.1.

The studio has also confirmed what we already suspected... that Shaun of the Dead will arrive on Blu-ray on 9/22, the same day as Hot Fuzz (as previously announced).

Aw, so excited for all of them, even Van Helsing in a sad, nostalgic way.

Van Helsing was garbage. But definitely picking up Army of Darkness and An American Werewolf in London.

Calling Van Helsing garbage isn't fair to garbage, because once in a while while rummaging through you may find some loose change or an unopened twinkie, where as there is no good in Van Helsing. A very promising premise bogged down by a terrible script, terrible directing, terrible CGI, and a terrible accent from Kate Beckinsale. Ugh, I was so disappointed.

Yeah I think it is a classic case of awesome idea but bad execution. I am gonna throw most of the blame onto Stephen Sommers. I think he really is a bad director. He uses so much CGI in his movies it feels like I am watching a cartoon half the ****ing time. Which is why I don't hold much hope for GI Joe. He also seems to direct his movies to the "dumb" part of the audience. He is like Michael Bay Jr. but at least Michael Bay does action well.

Hey! Deep Rising and The Mummy were awesome!

Deep Rising and The Mummy still fit my description. Michael Bayesque action movies with horrible CGI. The Mummy would have been 10 times better if more practical special effects were used but he looked like a ****ing cartoon and failed to scare me. And don't get me started on how awful the Scorpion King looked in the sequel...jesus.

The Mummy of course, was not meant to be scary. I can forgive the CGI in that movie cause it came out like ten years ago, and it was never meant to be anything but a big budget B-move, and didn't take itself seriously.

Yeah, the first Mummy is a fun movie. And I don't mind the CGI really. The CGI in Van Helsing was alot worse.

These movies are not meant to be scary, they are big budget B-movies and are supposed to be fun. Deep Rising and The Mummy are awesome fun movies! lol.

I think you guys are misunderstanding what I am saying. Your acting as if I am saying they are horror movies that aren't scary. That is not what I am saying. I am saying the Mummy was supposed to be this terrifying villain and I am saying that to me he wasn't because he looked like he belonged in a cartoon. This is a classic blunder that happens a lot these days. Just because a movie has a big budget doesn't mean you have to go crazy with CGI. I understand there was plenty of CGI needed in that movie thats obvious but when it comes to actual characters in the film you should try and rely on practical special effects as much as possible. Stephen Sommers loves CGI and he uses it too much and it ends up making his movies a little too eye rolling for me sorry. Its bad enough he overuses it but the CGI looks awful in his films for the most part is my point. Christopher Nolan is a perfect example on how a director should use CGI effectively.

I picked up the Batman Anthology today with Amazon.com's Gold Box sale, $57.99 for four films with all those specials is a great deal. Forever is decent at best and I don't need to describe Batman and Robin for anyone but I'm pretty happy with the purchase.

I already have Batman which I am content with. Only interested in adding Returns to my collection for a cheap price.

I've been a Batman fan for 20 our of my 22 years on this earth, so that's a big reason why I bought the box set. Yesterdays deal was the Matrix boxset which I did not pick up because I don't care for the 2nd or 3rd ones much at all, but did order the digibook for the original at the discount price. So I guess I don't approach every situation the same
