I'm not sure about the Hz limit to be honest, how would I go about checking that? However, I can say that I've had no screen tearing during a Blu-ray flick or game that was displaying in 1080p. At least none that was noticeable to me

I have a pretty nice setup. My wife let me get these electric recliners that have a middle console and cup holders for movie chairs. And my sound system and shake the entire house.

I have a bedroom theater as I still live with a parent (don't knock it...:p Allows me to save money for a future home).

But what I have is a nice little set-up.

Sharp DT-510 DLP Projector (It's 720p and looks amazing with great 3d pop since it's DLP, so far it looks as good as any 1080p projector I've seen)

Blu-ray To Remain Dominant Through 2015
High quality video and sluggish net connections are keeping streaming and ‘instant on’ services from gaining a foothold.

Streaming video may be a convenient way to keep up on television shows, but Blu-ray isn’t going anywhere, according to the latest Global Entertainment and Media Report by PriceWaterhouseCoopers. While Blu-ray players are present in around twelve million homes, many more consumers already own a device, be it an Xbox 360, a set top box, or a computer, capable of streaming HD content, so what gives?

It all comes down to bandwidth, and right now, most of America just doesn’t have the internet infrastructure in place to support instant on streaming of high definition content, let alone content of the quality delivered by Blu-ray discs. To give a general idea, a lower quality Blu-ray movie may have a bit rate of at least fifteen megabits per second, the Blu-ray format has a theoretical max of forty megabits per second, and the average American has a connection of only two and a half megabits per second. Looks like it’ll be some time before we see streaming able to compete on a quality level.

First Details of Watchmen Ultimate Edition BD Emerge
Early copies of the 'Watchmen: Director's Cut' Blu-ray are surfacing, and the release contains a flier with some early details of the Ultimate Collector's Edition of the movie. It will be released in December and will only be available through June 2010. Over two hours of bonus content will be included.

The movie version in this edition will be the director's cut, augmented with the animated comic 'Tales of the Black Freighter' woven into the narrative. The total length of the cut is not known yet; the theatrical cut was 162 minutes long, whereas the director's cut featured in the first-edition Blu-ray is 186 minutes long. As we reported, Paramount is releasing the theatrical cut in the UK.

The special features will also include the mockumentary 'Under the Hood' (already released as a companion to 'Tales of the Black Freighter') and 'Watchmen: The Complete Motion Comic'.

The Ultimate Collector's Edition will not include most of the special features available on the upcoming Director's Cut, such as the "walk-on" Maximum Movie Mode. However, it will include a new audio commentary with Snyder and artist Dave Gibbons. For a list of the special features on the Director's Cut, see our post of May 12.

Warner is offering a $10 coupon for the Ultimate Collector's Edition to registered members of its Insider Rewards program as of December 1.


Amadeus Blu-ray Re-released on No-DigiBook Case
Warner Home Video has announced that it will rerelease 'Amadeus: Director's Cut' on September 15. This movie had already been released on Blu-ray on February 10, in a DigiBook edition, while the new edition will come in a regular Blu-ray case. Additionally, the rerelease will not include the soundtrack CD sampler or the digital copy which were bundled in the first edition. The movie disc itself is exactly the same.

For the moment, the DigiBook edition is not being discontinued.

'Lost: The Complete Fifth Season Dharma Initiation Kit' Announced for Blu-ray

As previously reported, 'Lost: The Complete Fifth Season' will hit Blu-ray on December 8.

Dedicated fans will be pleased to learn that Walt Disney Home Entertainment has also announced a collectible 'Lost: The Complete Fifth Season Dharma Initiation Kit.'

This edition will also contain the entire fifth season presented on five BD-50 Blu-ray discs featuring 1080p video, a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 soundtrack, along with quite a few supplements, including featurettes and deleted scenes.

Exclusive to this set will be a bunch of Dharma Initiative related swag. Exact specifications for what kind of goodies this set will contain are still a bit foggy, however we do have a photo of the contents:

Suggested list price for the collection has been set at $134.00. If that VHS tape is real, you might want to start checking for VCRs on ebay now. If that VHS tape is really a case for a DVD, well, then we feel old.

Fox Brings Trio of Christmas Movies to Blu-ray
In an early announcement to retailers, it has been revealed that 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment will release three holiday-themed movies on Blu-ray on October 6: the original 'Miracle on 34th Street', the 'Miracle on 34th Street' 1994 remake, and 'Home Alone 2: Lost in New York'. Specifications and special features are still unavailable.

Casablanca Regular Blu-ray Edition Coming Up
An early announcement to retailers indicates that Warner Home Video is set to re-release 'Casablanca' on a regular edition Blu-ray on September 15. So far this great classic had only been available in the US as part of a two-disc Ultimate Collector's Edition (with special packaging and bundled memorabilia), released in December 2008 with a list price of $64.99.

In contrast with that, this upcoming edition will have an MSRP of $28.99. It will only have one disc and hence will not include the documentary "Jack L. Warner: The Last Mogul" contained in the Ultimate Collector's Edition.
 
I would definitely pick up the remake of Miracle on 34th Street, I really enjoyed that movie.
