If its bad I say bring it on anyway.
I wont go pluck down $10 to see it in a theater.
There is on demand or Netflix for the shrewd.

lol i'm not as bothered as you guys think. I just think there's a decent friday the 13th to be made and an origins movie sounds so boring and uncreative. It's not a big deal if it does get made.

I definitely agree with your take on an origins movie being uncreative.

If that does happen .....like the soup nazi says , "Next!!"

It doesn't sound like it's gonna be a full-on origin. Maybe just a 15 minute prologue.

It has to be done right, but it depends in how you do it. If you do it like Hannibal Rising or the new Leatherface movie (assuming it's bad), it's just not..interesting.

I think also, Hollywood has a habit of them wanting us, the audience, to understand certain characters. But certain characters, be it Michael Myers or even James Bond, should not be understood. Or completely understood.

Agreed. Jason is a character that works 100% better when you suspend the belief he is normal. Grounding him in reality is a waste.

I guess when you're twelve films into a series, it's kinda hard to keep it fresh without trying some new things.

Jason getting an "origin-ish" story doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be grounded in reality.

I like it when it's kept ambiguous how much of a regular human he is.

I agree, but I'm just pointing out that they must be struggling at this point.

Who knows? I hope it's good and I certainly have faith in the writer.

Jason is a tragic character with enough of a backstory that was presented in the 1st film, and that is really all we should get when it pertains to his backstory.

I really don't see the need to add onto that. Just make a good slasher movie, no need for another origin story in a business that has played out origin stories like no other.

The way I see it is that Jason's backstory is much like a campfire tale.

If I was the writer, that's exactly how I would start it.
A group of counselors sitting around a campfire, discussing the legend of Jason before the camp officially o pens up for the summer season.
Didn't he die?
How can he still be alive?
Were all those people really killed here? Or was that part of the legend?
They ask was he a misfit? An outcast? Or really a monster?

That could be it in a nutshell.

We're Going To Meet The Family

In a recent interview for the newly released Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form spoke about the upcoming reboot of Friday the 13th and dropped a BOMB that is going to bring some new blood into the series!

“We’re going to go back and we’re going to meet that family,” Fuller told Yahoo, speaking of the Voorhees clan. Form confirmed, adding, “We’re going to meet the family. You’re gonna meet Pamela, Elias, and Jason. And you’re gonna see how it all happened.”

I remember Jason's father from the Part VI novelization, but he never actually made it into the film series.

I think he was paying the graveyard dude to look after Jason's grave.

“We’re going to meet the family. You’re gonna meet Pamela, Elias, and Jason. And you’re gonna see how it all happened.”

This sounds like they are trying too hard to give him a tragic backstory.
It's getting too Rob Zombie-ish.

Except for those who need them to satisfy their bad films kinky cravings.

You know who I mean.

You mean literally every F13 fan on the planet? Because honestly I'm not sure I'd call any film in the franchise a good movie, but some of them are sure as hell entertaining.

Maybe it's just me, but I think calling this Rob Zombie-ish right now is just a little too premature.

Well I can understand why someone would think Rob Zombie, considering he went into the whole family background with Michael.

Giving a backstory= Rob Zombie! Didn't ya know? :o

If William Forsythe is cast I'll start to worry. :hehe:

That's the 1st thing I thought of. Jason ,like Michael Myers, should have as little backstory to him to add to his legend.

I'm sure others made the connection they are just copy catting the idea from Zombie.
Of course its too premature to say that now, but we wouldn't be here having fun with the whole debate of it.

I understand that yes, but I think it comes down to execution. Which if done the wrong way or overdone will be Zombie-ish. But too early to be calling it that honestly. Like I said, to me at least.

The fact that Jason's father is in it is different.
Not sure if its a good different.
Hopefully his father is not going to be the reason Jason turned out to be walking Hell in boots.
