We will start with the Original 1978 Horror classic, John Carpenters' "Halloween"

Wait, what? Can it not be a period piece, in that case?

Finallyyyyy. The Shape returns.

The only thing I don't like about this being a sequel to the original H2 and ignoring all the sequels/remakes is that it also would ignore H20 (arguably the biggest and most important Halloween sequel)...which was also a direct sequel to the original H2. ****ing dumb.

Yes, and why would Michael go after a new batch of victims when Laurie should still be alive, since she survived HII. He should be going after her.

If they retcon anything, retcon f***ing Halloween Resurrection.

It's funny that retconning is gonna be the 'norm' for movies. It's gonna take off even more after Neil Blomcamp's Alien sequel.

How direct are they gonna be?

It's like how in Jurassic World, the JP sequel could've happened or not. It was vague enough that it could go either way (though the viral sites states that they did kinda happened.)

Also, I like the Collection/Collector, and it's about time they gave a franchise like to to horror nerds. Or at least people who have done horror movies, not just music videos.

The JP franchise isn't quite the equivalent to the Halloween franchise, though.

This is from that article:

"Though the official announcement kept story under wraps, the site reported Halloween Returns as the tale of an 18 year-old child of a cop, whose parent is obsessed with the Myers case. As Myers is set to be executed, the shape escapes and stalks once again."

Now, I don't know how much stock we can put into that story "exclusive" but it seems to indicate that this movie would be a sequel to H2, effectively erasing everything that supposedly happened afterwards.

First, it indicates that the cop from H2 is obsessed with the Myers "case". Halloween 1 and 2 take places over the course of one night, which would make the murders all a part of the same case. If any of the sequels even could have happened, it wouldn't make much sense for this cop to be obsessed that case only, because there would be several other cases of murderous nights from each time Michael reappeared. Even if H20 was the only sequel that still existed in continuity (considered to be a sequel to H2), the same thing can be said. Michael came back for Laurie Strode again, case closed, head chopped off.

Second, the article suggests that Michael will be awaiting execution (likely for many years). Based on the endings of each sequel, I think it's really only possible that he could have been "caught" after the events of H2 if he survived that fire.

Basically, it looks like they're going to do exactly what the recent Texas Chainsaw movie did. Pick up right after the original events, then jump forward a bunch of years to continue the story without the same central characters, whilst still being tangential to the original events. It's not an approach that I'm against, but it can just makes things unnecessarily complicated because the longggg Halloween franchise is already confusing and complicated.

I really just hope this is a return to form for the series. I can forgive any retcons if they make something that is actually a suspenseful, tense, slow-burning film with impressive cinematography. And hopefully, they can make Michael Myers scary again.

I just want a remake of Halloween III: season of the witch, damn it.

Is Tom Atkins still alive? Get him involved. :oldrazz:

I haven't seen the second one yet but the first Rob Zombie Halloween movie is awful.

Cant be worse then rob zombies 2 turds or did I just jinx us?

You jinxed. It can always get worse with Hollywood.

I like the sound of the direction they're going in if that's the case. H1, H2, and H4 are the only Halloween movies in my rotation. The rest of the movies are worthless to me so I don't care if they're ignored.

It can when more than half the franchise is pretty terrible. (Not counting Zombie's because his sequel director's cut is actually the 2nd best in the series. :sly:) Not sure why Zombie gets singled out when hacks like Rick Rosenthal and Joe Chappelle committed cinema war crimes with their entries.

Has anyone read Patrick Lussier & Todd Farmer's Halloween 3D script? It was AWFUL. Possibly worse than Resurrection, which I thought wasn't possible. Thank god the Weinsteins came to their senses (shocking) and cancelled the thing a weeks before production.

But the Halloween franchise is like a choose your own horror adventure now. Kinda ridiculous when they could reboot it with the simple "stalk babysitters on Halloween" approach like the original instead of trying to connect everything.

But I like Dunstan & Melton and I hope they make it work. I'm pretty excited for a new Halloween movie.

Rosenthal get's a pass for Halloween II ('81).

Rob Zombie can **** off. Two movies filled with a bunch of unlikable a**holes, including the main protagonist, who became an even bigger a**hole in the second movie. Not to mention his interpretation of the Dr. Loomis character. That was the biggest ''cinema war crime'' of them all.

Rosenthal is the definition of a hack. Inept in every possible way. The only reason II is somewhat good is because Carpenter & Hill were still involved. On his own with the Weinsteins you get one of the worst movies ever made: Resurrection.

Joe Chappelle? Please. Halloween 5 f***ing wishes it was The Curse of Michael Myers.

Seriously, **** H5. They couldn't even be bothered to find the same make of house to be the Myers home, for God's sake.
