Met the director of Never Hike Alone at the Days of the Dead convention in Atlanta Over the weekend. Really nice guy who knows his shirt. Hosted a filmmaking panel that was really interesting.

Only way I see McLoughlin’s movie happening is if he crowdfunded it. The rights are up in the air and are gonna be for sometime. When the next studio movie happens I doubt they’d even consider McLoughlin at this point.

So just watched part V all the way through for the first time.

This movie is a ten thanks to Debisue Voorhies.

Probably a 3/10 if she isn’t in the cast.

To pre-face, always loved Halloween/Michael Myers. My dad showed me the first film when I was 4... was a huge Scream guy, but only respected F13th original and the NOES original. Didn't Rea;;y give the rest a fair shake until recently with the help of Halloweenies and the Gourley/Rust podcasts.

I've really come around to to F13th... especially original (still), the second part, and part 3. I think that's a pretty solid trilogy. The Final Chapter is a nice cherry on top, it's obviously the start to more outlandish existence of Jason and leads into the following trilogy/quadrilogy.

There's even more subverting of their own tropes by Part 3 and The Final Chapter. Plus, they start playing around more with filming. Little things like letting the one guy stay at the bar all night in 3 and anything with Crispin Glover or the old time porn watching guy in 4.

New Beginning/Jason Lives/New Blood are fun, have some great imagery and the wonderful bad acting that holds strong in this franchise. Yet, some of the more supernatural ideas are crazy... it works so well, because they actually go there without holding back. Jason Lives might be the best "looking" F13th film.

Final Friday and Jason X are easily the weakest at that point, and go beyond what they're attempting honestly. Final Friday is so damn weird, even more weird than a sci-fi futuristic Jason, ha. And, if they're doing a not-Jason Jason story... The New Blood is done way better.

I wish Jason Takes Manhattan wasn't a sort of lie like How I Met Your Mother was, the boat stuff is great. But, it easily drags on for way too long... and some of the shots don't work out so great considering the limits of being inside of a boat. But, that show of Jason looking at the "New York Rangers" billboard was all worth it.

I still think the reboot isn't that bad, it's not as atrocious as the NOES reboot. Its faults are clearly the dialogue of the characters. But, hard to stand top to the Texas Chainsaw reboot. Which was oddly too good for what it should have been considering who was making it.

Id' probably rank them as follows;

great
Friday The 13th [original]
Part 3
Part 2

pretty good
Part VI: Jason Lives
The Final Chapter (Part 4)
A New Beginning (part 5)

ok
The New Blood
Friday The 13th [reboot]
Jason Takes Manhattan

meh
Freddy Vs. Jason
Jason X
Jason Goes To bad place: The Final Friday

Jason Lives is the only Friday film you can actually defend from a filmmaking standpoint. Tom McLoughlin is the only director that's touched this franchise with any real creative talent or vision.

As someone who didn't grow up on horror outside of kids shows labeled horror that weren't remotely frightening because I was a wuss. I only watched these films recently. Not done yet but I've watched up through Jason Lives and have some opinions.

I like Jason Lives the most so far as someone who really likes dark comedy and silliness in this stuff as well as special effects and gore.

The Final Chapter is my second favorite because I really like the cast. Tommy Jarvis is great.

The third film really works for me as well.

A New Beginning was a waste of time.

Now to get to my really unpopular opinion: I don't like the first two films all that much. It felt like I was supposed to take this as seriously as Halloween but there is no one to give a damn about, like at all. Certainly no one on the level of Laurie Strode, Sydney Prescott, or Nancy Thompson. The final scenes with Jason's Mom are alright I suppose.

Part II has the cool idea of Jason keeping his mother's head, and that great final shot. I don't get why anyone is into Alice at all. I think the insanity of Jason Lives worked for me because I wasn't all that taken with the first two more serious films and I've only liked the kids in one of these films. Plus, the first two films lack significant elements associated with the franchise.

I'm expecting to like Jason X more than most people because it seems goofy as bad place, and if you can't give me good characters then at least be funny.

So glad I got my pre order in for this right when it was announced. Going to be amazing to own and have on my shelf next to their box set of Halloween.

I loved Never Hike Alone and Never Hike in the Snow looks even more amazing. Jason stalking and killing people in the snowy wilderness is something I have always wanted to see in this franchise and it saddens me that even after all these years none of these big studios could figure out how to do another movie yet the real fans out there spent no time putting this together and with very limited resources.

I supported the first film and have the blu ray for it, great fan film. Supported this sequel as well can’t wait for it. They have a whole bunch of sequels planned. Very excited.

Same here mate, I’ve actually got 2 BRs of NHA. I can’t wait for NHINTS and the NHA sequels that they’ve announced.

It’s crazy that Womp Stomp are delivering the goods with Friday the 13th yet Paramount had the option for 5 years and couldn’t get 1 movie in development. I think Jason’s actually in better hands with these guys.

Jason Lives is the only Friday film you can actually defend from a filmmaking standpoint. Tom McLoughlin is the only director that's touched this franchise with any real creative talent or vision.

Thank you. The rest range from fine to passable on a curve to outright terrible. Jason Lives knows exactly what it is doing and pulls it off well.

I get why people love Jason himself. He's just in many bad movies that doesn't utilize him well enough. The movies have a hampered history of people just not really giving a shirt about these movies and pumping them out for a quick buck. If it weren't for the hockey mask in 3 which is a stroke of design genius, I don't think these movies would have lasted much longer.

Look, I can enjoy a stupid, bad horror movie on its own merits, I just guess repeatedly watching Jason kill teenagers over ten movies gets forking old for me after the fifth one. The true horror of these movies was seeing these teenagers get killed over and over again. I felt like I was in a waking nightmare. Like an omnipotent bystander. I was engaged in the sense that I was practically screaming at these kids who kept going back to Crystal Lake. Don't these kids know about Jason by now???? It's amazing the effect a series of horror movies like these can have when there is no regard to continuity.

I just watched Womp Stomp Films Never Hike in the Snow, which is a prequel set 3 Months before the events of Never Hike Alone. Yet again I was blown away, dare I say I even liked it more than Never Hike Alone.

You can watch Never Hike in the Snow here

Yeah I watched it last night and thought it was just as great Never Hike Alone, although it was way too short IMO. I really wanted more, but other than that it kicked ash, especially the kills. This version of Jason is just a badass and I loved the references to Jason Lives.

Well it’s part 1 of 4 so when the parts come together it will feel like one movie. A few have said about the shortness but he was upfront about that. The dates haven’t quite worked out cause of COVID but here’s the plan...

Yeah he’s been straight forward about it from the beginning that it’s part of one big story. That’s why it’s only a half an hour.

Cool I had no idea this was all apart of a 4-6 part web series. I guess I should have looked into it more, but thanks for clearing that up anyways guys.
