Ive been binge watching the Halloween movies in order, along catching up with Friday the 13th for the past few weeks, and they're an interesting watch, historically.

I love Halloween, and I still think the first two are the best, but I think the series lost its way by part 4 and 5, because of the new kids on the block...Jason-V and Fredrick Kruger.

Those two really tapped into 80's culture, with the style, music, and trends, whereas Halloween has always been reserved, simple and quiet. Not to say that Halloween didn't have its share of sex and violence, but nothing as 80's bonkers as Friday the 13th, which has a slight John Hughes/teen comedy influence on the characters.

Meanwhile, Halloween 4 and 5 felt like they wanted to go down that route, but wanted to have it both ways.

It wasn't until H20 when Halloween finally caught up, but found its own organic footing. and by then, both Jason and Friday were inactive. Then Zombie's Halloween came along and totally went the extreme route.

edit. Don't wanna get into a whole huge thing here. But no I don't like everything, wanna come discuss some stuff with me I dislike? Let's go to the ghostbusters thread, the arrow thread (show has totally gone downhill since season 2), game of thrones thread (hate Arya and her story arc), xmen thread (hate Jlaw and what they've done with mystique). You get the point haha. Or we can discuss Friday part 5 which is my least favorite of the series.

I hate JGTH but Jason X is a guilty pleasure because I really dug some stuff like..

Pre - Uber Jason's look
The goverment trying to contain him
His mysterious escape from the chains and switching with the guard
Kane Hodder is my favorite jason
The frozen head smash is definetly one of my favorite kills in the franchise
The return of the sleeping bag kill, another favorite
The protagonist woman is one of my few favorite protagonists

The one thing I liked about JGTH was the black jason hunter though, he was cool and I wish he had been in the older movies or in Freddy vs Jason!

Exactly my feelings. Quite often full fledged psychos are just that way.
Their parents had nothing to do with it.

I liked that as well

personal favorite is Part 6, especially the ludicrous way that Jason is resurrected

Part 6 is one of my favorites.

I feel like 6 gives you what makes the earlier films work, but throws some cheese in there because it understands it is a bit ludicrous

Parts 3 and 4 are my favs. Part 2 is good, just don't care much for the pillow case Jason wears.

iirc, it wasn't even intended to be a Friday the 13th movie. I have to rewatch that documentary.

is that the one with "Carrie White" in it? I didn't like how Jason looked sans mask. but the story wasn't bad. oh wait, you were talking about the looney bin one. that was kind of my favorite because of when I saw it. I was eating breakfast in a college cafeteria. it was the 13th so a marathon the films was playing on the cafeteria tv screens. I remember everyone in the place really getting into it/yelling at the screen when this one came on.
