The Greatest Criminal Mind of Our Time: Nicholas Hoult IS Lex Luthor

I keep coming back to Matt Damon as Lex. He’s so good at playing resentful, entitled villains and he looks good bald!

It'd be fun if the story played Lex as heroic to an extent, a benign "leader of men", with a non-onbiously-evil actor who you'd almost believe will stay good till the end, and only later reveal him as a snake in the grass. Hoping for a Damon, Tom Cruise, Bradley Cooper type.

Wes Bentley or Karl Urban.

Isn’t he incredibly intelligent too (despite the Team America jibes)? Hmm you might be onto something here…. Headline actor too…

Lex should have his hands in any, and everything.
That's how he should have made his billions.

From owning farms in middle America, to large tracks of beachfront property in Florida.

Lex also owns several industries, from car factories down to candy companies, and everything in between.

But, his first love is futuristic tech, and especially alien tech.

He should be obsessed with Superman. He figures out long before anyone else the superman is an alien.

Lex doesn't so much hate Superman as he is obsessed and jealous of him. ( the hate Lex has for him comes later after several defeats and having his plans ruined by superman )

Lex should also be a brilliant scientist and inventor ( like Tony stark, but not quirky )

Guy Pearce is another that I think would make a great Lex.

I think this is a good pick.

An older Lex could be fine, a successful man who's not able to make peace with the fact that he's well past his prime (the balding being a symbol of this), contrasting with the perfect golden boy who just shows up one and day and steals all the attention and respect away.

But I prefer it the other way around, with a Lex who is in his prime, a handsome self-made success, the ultimate man, contrasting with a Clark who very much is not, totally unsuccessful, maybe not the best lookin guy in the world, kinda looks like an idiot (trunks on tights and all), and yet still earns the public's attention and respect more than Lex. I could just imagine Lex getting so hilariously furious that he's being thwarted by an oaf in red underwear.

Magnussen can bring the intensity and the comedy. Not that Lex is a comedian, but Lex's extreme ways should often be played for laughs, whether he's in his goofy super suit, standing up to Darkseid, pulling the most ridiculous Batgod level feats, or switching bodies with the Flash.

My other pick is Donald Glover.

Michael Fassbender
Daniel Craig
Jason Isaacs
Eldris Elba
Matthew mcconaughey
Ewan McGregor.

I'd be over the moon with any of these.
Michael Fassbender 10 years ago would have been a hell yes.

I guess Richard Madden will be our back up to Fassbender then. :o

If you have never seen the show Mr Inbetween then I highly suggest you do.

If you want a scary Lex, Scott Ryan is your man buuut I think he should and could be an amazing Joker.

My biggest concern with Lex is him getting turned into a Musk-style fraud. Especially with Gunn writing, I worry that's an all-too real possibility.

That said, I like the Magnussen pick. Definitely think the range for him should tap out at 40. Being older than Clark makes sense, but Fassbender is probably too old, especially when we're talking a long-term franchise. Plemons would be interesting. Nicholas Braun could be fun, he's usually comic relief but give him a shave and let his 6'7'' self tower over the rest of the cast and I think it could really work.

Stop reminding me Fassbender has aged out of contention. :o

How is he too old? 45? That's not old at all and considering he is Hollyweird 45 he looks even better.

Genuinely confused hah.
How old do you think the new Lex should be? Bear in mind, he's supposed to be in the DCU that is supposed to last at least 10 years.

Depends what age in human years Superman is... but if we had to work backwards from Lex's age I would say 40-45. I like a Lex that has age on Supes.

I've been rereading the John Byrne Man Of Steel run and the Lex in that is older and basically what the Clancy Brown STAS take is modeled on (also modeled on Telly Savalas's Blofeld from On Her Majesty's Secret Service). Just this commanding presence and booming voice that makes you take him seriously. Lex in this movie should really be as close to that model as possible (especially to wipe the bad taste of Jessie Eisenberg's cringe portrayal).
