The Greatest Criminal Mind of Our Time: Nicholas Hoult IS Lex Luthor

For anyone doubting Hoult’s ability to play a ruthless, evil psychopath, The Order is now on Hulu. Hoult plays a vicious Nazi terrorist in a horrifying true story. Just exceptional performances all around from Hoult, Jude Law, Jurnee Smollett and Tye Sheridan. Definitely recommend watching it. It feels very relevant now with all the racist **** that is happening in the U.S.

I do love how sharp Lex is looking in this. As he should!

I'll say this...he looks good as Lex! If he can nail what makes Lex work that will only help the movie.

Lex in the kind of setting this movie is setting up seems like a recipe for success.

So far, he certainly "looks" like the Lex I've always wanted to see on the bigscreen.
He's Tall, kinda slim, he apparently has a tony stark level of intelligence, and he looks to be very serious from what I've seen so far.

Regarding Lex. How much should he “lose” at the end of this movie? Like, do you think he should be soundly defeated and put in prison? Or should he manage to worm his way out of capture so that he can continue to be the mastermind behind the DCU’s problems in future films? I guess he can still be that either way, but I prefer “untouchable oligarch” Lex over “criminal kingpin” Lex. But I suppose if what we get of CEO Lex here is satisfying, then seeing his downfall (and eventual reemergence in a different capacity) could work well too.

Lex seems to be untouchable in this film because of who he's connected to. That's not a diss and it's obviously pretty early but it seems he's more like a contractor than independently seeking gain.

I'm sure he still has a lot of power but I don't think he's out threatening CEO's and other businessmen, it's more just "Lex is working for/with the military. So it's not much you can do about it."

Yeah I like that too. I’m curious though how Max Lord and Simon Stagg also factor into this. While I have NO problem with portraying billionaire tech CEOs as a bunch of corrupt ***holes, I do worry that Gunn might be cramming in a few too many similar villains here. But maybe it will all work well. Especially if Lord is less of a villain and more of an opportunist like he was initially. Have they announced casting for Stagg at all?

Multiple billionaires being around one another (I assume they associate w Lex) makes plenty sense. I doubt they have much screen time though. They're probably in <3 scenes.

Ĺex will probably not only NOT be in any legal trouble, he will probably come out smelling like a rose/hero, and will announce he's running for president at the end.

People will say it’s too on the nose, but my God… I think I’d actually prefer Lex Luthor in the WH at the moment. :o

I would imagine the endgame for Lex has to be the Presidency.

It's too good of a story to pass up.

When I first read the headline from Superherohype that Jesse Eisenberg was cast as Lex Luthor, I thought it was a joke. If I recall, I think for two days, I was in denial about it because I could not believe that it was true, and I was searching everywhere to verify if these sources were actually legitimate, because I just could NOT believe it. If someone would have told me that Eisenberg was play Lex Luthor, I would have laughed, and I wouldn't have believed it. But it was true, and I was absolutely appalled. I just couldn't process that. It sounded about as unbelievable as Nicholas Cage playing Superman to me.

Regardless, I couldn't have pictured Eisenberg portraying Lex Luthor like a clown and lunatic. I thought he would have given it a more serious approach, but the was such a dreadful performance. Worst casting ever.

Yeah, I’ve liked Eisenberg in some stuff but honestly he doesn’t have much range. His characters are all somewhere between his Zuckerberg and the guy he played in A Real Pain. I think if he had done something similar to the Zuckerberg performance as Lex it might have been better but I still think it would have felt like a miscast. Of course, what we got was worse than I could have possibly imagined.

It doesn't help that they basically just window dressed The Riddler as Lex Luthor in BVS.

I see what you mean. I think Eisenberg is really good at the roles that fall within his wheelhouse, but there does seem to be a limit to what kind of parts he can play.

While I also think he looks sharp in the first photo, he looks very slim. He looks better in the first GIF imo. Never liked a skinny Lex personally. It reminds me of the design of Lex in Superman: Doomsday (2007).

How ever Lex is portrayed, I hope the first film doesn't end with him already winding up in jail. I hope there's a full story arc planned for Lex throughout the course of the DCU. I'd rather see this Lex be not so easy to defeat. Once he's in jail, it would sound like that would be the end of Luthorcorp. I like Luthorcorp having a presence in Superman's story. As long as they do it right, personally I don't want Luthor thrown in jail yet, because I'm interested in seeing him go through phases and potentially run for president and I would hope, he would eventually form a Legion of Doom or Injustice Gang. I don't want the public losing their trust in Lex just yet.

I'm starting to think he might end up in jail if he frames Superman, but fails, and we've seen him injured, supposedly having tried to fight Superman in the Prometheus suit.

I feel Lex will worm his way out of any trouble by framing someone else, and will probably even
( at the very end ) announce he is running for president.

I hope the DCU tries to follow a similar structure of the Bruce Timm DC animated-verse with Batman TAS, Superman TAS, Batman Beyond, Justice League, Justice League Unlimited.
