The Greatest Criminal Mind of Our Time: Nicholas Hoult IS Lex Luthor

Luthor being the human representation of Superman. Physically and intellectually the same. Except one is an all powerful god using his abilities for the betterment of mankind. Hence the jealously of the other.

Ritchson could play that.

It's also a way of mixing it up onscreen.

One needs to look beyond an actor automatically looking the part to determine them perfect. That logic would have in fact prevented Christopher Reeve from getting cast back in '77. Everyone seems to have forgotten this.

Respectfully sometimes you guys need to think outside the box.

Depends how outside the box you're talking. I see so many suggestions here from people that just makes no sense to me. Getting someone who can act is absolutely the top priority, I agree with this, it's important, however the amount of people I see thrown around who look more like Danny Devito than Superman simply because it's "out of the box" annoys the piss out of me. Makes me happy casting directors don't listen to us. People can give me crap about people like corenswet because it's so generic and typical but if having guys like corenswet cast over this obscure choices where some random 5'6 Asian American is thrown in or a goofy looking comedian from always sunny or parks and rec keep getting tossed in then he'll yeah I'll take my "generic and safe" picks because atleast it's more believable in terms of people who will eventually be picked, one way or another.

If Gunn wants to go the classic route, smarmy middle aged businessman, I imagine Bradley Cooper would be high on his list.

But I’d much prefer a guy in his prime with some giga chad energy, like Henry Cavill tbh. Maybe Michael B Jordan, Aaron Taylor Johnson, or John David Washington.

I have in my mind a certain look and type for Lex.
Matthew McConaughey
Bradley Cooper
Brad Pitt
Tom hardy
Karl Urban
Edris Elba
Jason Isaacs
Michael Fassbender

mcconaughey, cooper and fassbender would all be fantastic choices - i'd add gosling there too

I’ve been watching The Diplomat lately and it got me thinking that Rufus Sewell would make a good Luthor. It’s funny, I’ve seen him play villains for years but it took him playing a semi-good guy (albeit a manipulative one) for me to envision him as Luthor.

Luthor is complex so that checks out. I think he has to be able to be a convincing good guy when he’s trying to put that on as well have some actually honourable intentions. It’s good if you can get someone who is adept at playing both good guy and villain, although it will be beautiful when we see the dark side win out. :D

In Nando v Movies’ newest video where he fancast a few characters, he picked Leslie Odom, Jr. as Lex and gave really solid reasons. Now I’m stuck on it and I can’t stop thinking about how perfect that choice is.

(Go to 46:40 for fancast)

Honestly, after watching Reacher? I wouldn't say Alan Ritchson is my first choice, but I could see it as being possible. Like, I'd at least give the guy an audition.

Edit: Oops, I got confused, and thought this was the *Superman* casting thread. :p

That said, I'll stick with my statement that I'd at least allow Alan an audition.

It’s a shame that he’s almost certainly too old for the role in this context, but James Spader as Lex really would’ve been quite something.
Robert California or Black List Spader? It better not be Ultron Spader.

Haha I started reading this post and I was like, ummm… you want a Luthor who will probably be twice the size of whoever they cast as Superman?

Anyway, Alan would probably make a good Supes but he’s 40 so (according to James Gunn himself) that would put him out of the running. I would love to finally see Alan in a (good) superhero role (Titans and Smallville don’t count). Though I suppose Reacher is pretty much a superhero.

Robert Downey Jr would kill it as Lex but I dunno if it would work since he's so associated with IM.

He's prolly a bit old now for it, but Guy Pearce.

Whoever it is, I hope they get him for a multi picture deal so he can menace the justice league too

Actually, my own random "never happen" idea? Alan Richson as Doc Savage. I mean, he's pretty much playing Doc Savage's hobo cousin, already.

Yeah he would be perfect for that. I know they were trying to get a Doc Savage movie off the ground starting the Rock but I think it wound up falling by the wayside like that “John Henry” movie he was also supposed to do.

The case for Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor:

Kill Your Friends
The Favourite
The Great
The Menu
True History of the Ned Kelly Gang

Nicholas Hoult couldn't be more perfect.

I support it. Hoult is pretty much the perfect choice for a Birthright/Smallville inspired Lex. Plus he looks good bald.

Jeremy Strong is another one but I don’t think he would look the part as much. And I don’t see him committing to what this would require (multiple film commitments).
