The Greatest Criminal Mind of Our Time: Nicholas Hoult IS Lex Luthor

Welling refused to put on the suit is why.
Oh, I am well(ing) aware but it's still what happened in the show and I think it's what brought it down a whole lot. If they had stopped having him face all of his rogues while as Clark and actually put Superman in much earlier and moving into when he was working at the Daily Planet we might have seen the show go for longer... rather than always watching "The Blur and Lois"

Not a knock on welling, but he didn't want to be typecast as Superman. I can think of much much worse things.
Where is he now?

I think it would have been such a good setup for BvS if Lex had taken the place of Colonel Hardy in MOS with a few more drafts. Lex could’ve been instrumental in taking down Zod. After the events of MOS, as a result of being exposed to massive amounts of Kryptonite radiation, Lex would get cancer and lose his hair in chemotherapy. He could effectively blame Superman for his cancer, and his hatred would have some validity to it. I enjoy the idea of Lex’s baldness being blamed on Superman even if the Kryptonian cancer angle is a bit on the nose.

If can't remember if this is a true story, but when Nicholas Cage was cast as Superman, I understood that he originally read for the role of Lex. Maybe true, maybe not, if anyone else remembers the story.

There is a certain texture to Cage being a very good Lex, he can play creepy charming as well as crazy evil. Don't know if he would do it, but I think he could be great.

He could be fun but I think no matter how well he played the role he would still be a laugh. I want someone that disappears into the role, almost Collin Farrel as The Penguin (obviously wouldn't need the makeup)

Best suggestion I've heard so far has been Alan Ritchson.

For Lex? That bonkers, dude is prime for a superhero of some kind.

Alan Ritchson lol

Honestly thought that was a typo.

For Superman you mean?

Luthor being the human representation of Superman. Physically and intellectually the same. Except one is an all powerful god using his abilities for the betterment of mankind. Hence the jealously of the other.

Ritchson could play that.

It's also a way of mixing it up onscreen.

One needs to look beyond an actor automatically looking the part to determine them perfect. That logic would have in fact prevented Christopher Reeve from getting cast back in '77. Everyone seems to have forgotten this.

Respectfully sometimes you guys need to think outside the box.

You went so far out of the box you ended up in a different box for a different film! :P

Respectfully, beyond the look aspect (not sure casting a large muscled up actor for LEX would do the actor playing Superman any favors if you put them on screen next to each together), I don't think this guy is the right kind of actor for Lex Luthor. Just not the right fit.

It’s not even about his appearance. It’s about the fact that he’s Alan Ritchson. He’s nowhere near the caliber of actor they should try approaching for this. I can’t even picture him playing intellectual.

Outside of the box can be cool, but I don’t wanna be out there if Alan Ritchson is out there too.

James McAvoy would be another good candidate for Lex.

I'm warming up more to the idea of Howerton, I think he'd really nail the ruthlessness and superior intelligence of Lex.

Problem is to do outside the box casting like that you need, most of all, a good actor.

Im really on the Jesse Plemons train, he’s not the tall shredded Lex some people want but his look exudes power, he’s so classically villain looking he’d be a striking Lex.

Yeh I'm for him also. I'm unsure of his age but he has very mature look to him and he can be quite menacing.

Glenn Howerton
Jesse Plemons

That's my wishlist. If you look at Gunn's track record with villains, Howerton's the kind of actor that makes sense here. Also worth noting that he was a finalist for Star-lord.

I don't think Gunn with have a problem getting pretty much anyone he wants in SL.
I do think its imperative to get a couple of A listers in supporting roles.

This isn't a new film of characters like GOTG. It's Superman.
Alot of the public got burned with snyder's take on Superman, and for better or worse, the public will need some big names in this to get them interested.
We of course don't, but we don't pay the bills.
