The Greatest Criminal Mind of Our Time: Nicholas Hoult IS Lex Luthor

I'm holding out hope that Gunn can somehow get Bradley Cooper to reconsider his decision. If not, Alexander Skarsgard is my choice from the rumored candidates.

i'm just guessing but maybe they meant to say bc for bradley cooper

Ah okay. Well then I agree; Cooper would be great. I do wonder if Cooper has kind of been scared off from CBMs (aside from voice work, obviously) after the whole Green Lantern fiasco. He came very, very close to playing that role and now probably views it as a dodged bullet that saved his career.

He said he'd follow James Gunn to DC, he'd follow James Gunn anywhere basically.

Glenn Howerton posted a picture of himself as Lex and James Gunn started following him.

I’m starting to think James Gunn reads this forum…

I wouldn't be surprised if he does.

Gunn has been following Glenn for years and vicerversa. Although I will note that Glenn has commented on some of his Superman posts since months ago.

Well now if it doesn't happen I'm gonna be pissed.

Howerton would still be a good choice. I’ve forgotten about him in light of the rumored list, but he’d still kill it.

I’m sure he’s been on Gunn’s radar since he auditioned for Star Lord.

Lex is the role I’d most expect to go to an A-lister, but Howerton has been on Gunn’s radar for a decade now and he’s got 18 years of experience at playing a devious bastard. I’m up for it.

"We're gonna get off together."

He wouldn't even be in my top 10 as Lex.
I doubt Gunn cares what we think, but I really feel Lex should not only be a well known actor, but an actor that has a proven track record.
An actor that can disappear into a role.

I feel casting someone like this as Lex would be similar to the GL, the previous Lex we got, and the Shazam casting.
All were well known actors but they were NOT suitable for THOSE roles.

We need someone like, but not necessarily, James McAvoy.

Other non A-list actors that could work as Lex:

- Boyd Holbrook, 41
- Billy Magnussen, 38

Would actually like to see Boyd as Metallo on an adaptation of Geoff Johns' take on the character as a Sergeant working under Gen Sam Lane.

Not a bad choice; I’d take him as Metallo too. Morrison used Corben too in their New 52 reboot of Superman. Lane & Luthor partner to create a “Metal Soldier” program but at the last minute, it’s corrupted by Brainiac who is revealed to be Luthor’s silent partner & was biding his time until he could amass an army of robotic soldiers to prepare Earth for his invasion.

To each their own, but haven’t you suggested Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba a whole bunch of times?

I have. There are several that would be great as Lex.
