actually I think most feel the Goblin resembles a Power Rangers villain, not a Power Ranger, due in part to the fixed expression on the mask.

Definitely in part due to the fixed expression on the mask! Good call. Also, due to the hard faux-muscled exterior; and also, the general over-market-researched "hey, the kids are into shiny flashy streamlined things, right?" aura that was Saban and Power Rangers' raison d'etre and that pervades film GG's visual lifeforce.

Everyone who detests this comparison, did you ever actually even watch the television show Power Rangers? Or are you just googling images.

I'm one of those who's refered to the GG1's suit as a villain looking Power-Ranger... and now (seeing those pics above) it's become more clear then ever!!! I still love the movie and Willem Dafoe's portrayal of the GG though!... But that suit always were a bit tacky.

Next time you watch an SM-1 scene with the Goblin, put the audio on mute and imagine Power Rangers-style fake kicking and flipping "whoosh" sound effects. That should bring it home.

GG looked like he belonged in an episode of mighty morphin power rangers as a villain.

However, his costume reminds me of the armour clad and clunky helmets of the rangers in the power rangers movie.

I still dont see it at all...the power rangers had visors, Goblin didnt, he had a face...Goblin had a mouth, rangers didnt, except in the movie, and it was a static closed mouth. Goblin was metal, rangers were mostly cloth, except in the movie where they were plastic. Goblin was a solid color, rangers had multi-colored designs and logos all over.

The Jet Jaguar thing I can see, but not the Rangers one.

When people say that, I don't think they're necessarily referring to the Power Rangers themselves, but other characters involved on that show, like this guy. Not identical, but reminiscent.

The costume had a horrible cheap plastic look to it, like the costumes in the Power Rangers show.
