The Green Lantern movie thread

I think Fillion is relatively unknown enough that he could star as Hal. I mean sure he was a star of an ensomble (spelling?) cast on Serenity (or Firefly I forget which was which), but thats about it.
Brandon Routh was a soap star first. I think people would be very accepting of Fillion as Hal, as long as the script and effects and everything was good. I would probably accept him as Hal.

As for Kyle, I think they approached him as the new guy. Someone unfarmiliar with the whole Green Lantern/superhero thing. Normally in a story or a comic the new guy has a teacher or a team to help them along, like with Jubilee on the X-Men cartoon. (the show started with her and you met the X-Men and everyone through her, at first).
This usually is done to bring in readers who don't know the comic or story.
But in the case of Kyle he was brought in, given the ring by a Guardian as a last ditch effort (most likely wasn't chosen for his abilities as much as the others.) He was also made to sort of be the average guy, and how would the average no superhero handle all this. And they sort of had him act like he was way in over his head alot.
And then he was all alone to be the only Green Lantern throughout the universe, there was no one to mentor him and no team to guide him.
So he (like Batman Beyond, in the first seasons) he kept getting beaten up and stuff. Eventually though I think he got the hang of it right?

Also I don't think him changing the costume so drastically helped.

While I did love the idea of him being a comic artist and cartoonist I didn't really fully graps how cool Rayner was until Rebirth, where they stated that he stood as the sole Green Lantern. He protected all the universe and kept the Green Lanterns going all by himself.

Fillion was on Buffy for a few episodes too, and he was in Slither.

yeah, he was also on Two Guys, a Girl, and a Pizza Place. He is about as big (maybe even less) as Tobey Maguire was before Spider-Man.
He is still what I would consider a relative unknown. Unknown enough to still seem fresh and new in a superhero movie.

Fillion is far from being too famous for Hal Jordan. He doesn't have Tom Cruise/Mel Gibson level recognition.

In response to earlier posts, yes, I agree, Harrison Ford, Dennis Quaid and/or Michael Biehn would have all been damn good in the role of Hal Jordan (not that Ford would have ever agreed to wear the GL suit or even a variation on the suit).

If he was in his prime, I would've loved to have seen Harrison Ford as Hal.

The way Hal was drawn in JLA: Year One and "Brave & The Bold" reminds me of a young Michael Pare (Streets of Fire, the Philadelphia Experiment).

I say let's not start a Daredevil mistake of a movie with two many supervillains in the first movie. I say in the first movie the supervillain should be Sinestro and then in the next one I think we could have Carol Ferris become Star Sapphrie.
If this was in the 80s then Harrison Ford would have been perfect. Sinestro would be played by Robert Di Niro, John Travolta, or possibly Tommy Lee Jones.
Okay, fine, fair enough. Who should play Carol Ferris (without the Star Sapphire persona)?

I think that with Green Lantern, its best to keep it simple at first by focusing on only one human GL. That is why I've never been a fan of the idea of including Hal Jordan, Kyle Rayner, John Stewart, and Guy Gardner in the same movie right of the bat. You have to introduce the nonfans to the entire idea of the Green Lantern Corps and Guardians of the Universe, and I think that it is better to do that from the perspective of one guy.

With that said, I would make the first Green Lantern movie as the origin story of Hal Jordan. You would of course have Carol Ferris as the love interest and Sinestro as the villain. I would do an entire trilogy focused on Hal Jordan, and in the process introduce Guy Gardner and John Stewart at varying points. Then in part 4, you could have Jordan retire and pass the ring onto Gardner or Stewart or do the Parralax storyline with Kyle Rayner.

I'm not too familiar with Fillion's work, what's his big appeal?

How about Kate Beckinsale?

She would be a good choice as well. One of the things that I would look for is whether or not the actress in question could play a convincing villain, if they planned on having Carol become Star Sapphire in a sequel.

well, the picture above was perfect for that character..

That is an important thing to keep in mind.

Hugo Weaving would be my choice for Sinestro.

Again, that might work.

Lord knows Ron Perlman cannot play Sinestro. He may be a master of acting through prosthetic makeup, but his face is too large & craggy for the Snidely-Whiplash inspired Sinestro and his voice is too deep and rough, whereas Sniestro would be better served by a smoother voice that was a couple octaves higher than Perlman's usual speaking voice.

How many people would like to see a GL movie with John Stewart as the main GL

I honestly don't know. I don't really have an opinion of John Stewart one way or another.

Back to Carol Ferris, I think Lauren Graham would be a decent visual match, but I'm not sure she can do the Star Sapphire aspect.

Nathan Fillion wound be a good Hal Jordan/Green Lantern

P.S How old is Hal supposted to be when he frist gets his ring in the comics.

I have no idea. I'm guessing at least 30 - young enough to be a hotshot adventurer and devil may care ladies man, old enough to have some previous pilot experience under his belt.

But they'll probably cast a guy who's only 21 to play Hal just to make sure he's "unknown" and cheap.
