I wouldn't want them merged,
If they got merged then you not only would loose Hal or Jon, you would loose both of these two great characters.

I woulnd't mind seeing Jon in the first film, just as long as they make sure to leave it open and maybe allude to Hal being the first human GL in the GL Corps.
That way Hal can make an appearence later on in a prequal or something.

I really want to see Hal and Jon as soon as possible, Kyle too but not as much as those two.

This is what I want to see:
Film 1: Hal, an origin. With Jon as a close friend, but make him more like a side character and Hal is the star.
Film 2: Hal is now a seasoned Green Lantern. In fact he is the best, and has been on many adventures with the ring. Jon becomes a bigger character with him doing some heroic stuff without the aid of the ring
(prooving himself so that fans wont say later that he only got the ring because he was Hal's friend.) Ganthet or Hal decide to give Jon the ring and make him the successor, with the other (Hal or the Guardians) agree.
Film 3: Jon becomes the new GL.
(or Jon can become a Green Lantern, and maybe be the star of the spin off Green Lantern Corps film.)
But I don't see why, after Hal gives Jon the ring, that Jon can't take over using some of Hal's enemies (like the cyborg Superman, the Shark guy, the Manhunters, Sinistro, Evil Star, the Yellow Lanterns, etc.)
And maybe after a one film abscence Hal can return as a retired GL, and co star
(or maybe Hal can go on to star in the spin off Green Lantern Corps film.)

Film 4: Kyle is introduced, Kyle is also an artist like Jon (only he is a cartoonist while Jon is an architect) but maybe Jon sees something of himself in Kyle. Jon has been, like Hal, on so many missions and is one of the best if not the best GL.
Film 5: Jon is retiring too, or taking a break. so he gives the ring to Kyle at the end or something.

After a few Kyle films it can return to Hal and go from there.

What does iconic have to do with anything? You really think WB is gonna say "But they're iconic" when Jesse Jackson and Rev. Al are asking why. And you know they will. If Jackson hasn't got a problem calling for a boycott of FOX after 3 viewer-less black shows get cancelled, how could the most iconic superhero movie escape his notice?

Because Fox is a racist gaggle of morons and WB is a respectable company... at least, that'd be my reason.

My source for the John existence remark is the comics themselves. What iconic story has he been involved in? Crisis? DC rotated Hal out to flesh out Stewart's character, and Crisis happened to coincide at the same time. Other than that, what constantly referenced and revered John Stewart story do fans the world over point to as a masterpiece of the Panel Graphic art form?

Mosaic. Green Lantern: Mosaic. Dear gosh. Mosaic. Dear gosh. And what makes it more shocking is that you think you know about Green Lanterndom, and actually think John Stewart's high point was COIE. Wow. Wow. Mosaic. Wow.

? Maybe Hal Jordan fans? I was assuming since we were talking about Hal's involvement in a Green Lantern movie and inclusion in a Justice League film that that might be the best that could be hoped for.

Is THAT what we were talking about? Well, man... you go do that... I'm talkign about John Stewart's involvement in a Green Lantern Movie and inclusion in a Justice League film that could be better than anyone dares to hope for.

Maybe you should pay more attention to the thread. The possibility of Hal being utilized as the Green Lantern in a GL movie or JL film was the discussion. Since you were having the same argument with someone else before I posted I don't see how you wondered off the path. As far as I've seen you're just about the only one singing such melodic praises to John Stewart. The confounding thing is that I said having John Stewart as the lead GL in a JL film wouldn't be the end of the world. YOU were the one who gave the appearance of such a uncompromising stance at the mere possibility of Hal Jordan showing up at all.

I understand that some people didn't like Mosaic, DC editorial included, but it was a bestseller, unlike the other GL comics of the time and critics loved it. And more importantly, I enjoyed it. You personally thinking it was toilet paper doesn't really mean anything.

And this whole "Fox" thing stems from the concept of of Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton jumping DC if they have an all-white League, which is so rediculous, I thought dismissing it out of hand would be enough. I'm at work, so I can't watch the video yet, but, dude...

How many movies get made a year with no black people in them? Or minorities period? Sharpton and Jackson stopped attacking at random a LONG time ago. More than 11 years ago.

Ok Green Lantenr (Hal Jordan) is on the A list of DC Comics super heros which includes their three top ones Batman, Superman, and Wonderwoman. Green Lantern (John Stewart) seems more like one that wouldn't make it on the A List. There for I hope that the director realizes to make the movie with Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) as the Green Lantern for the movie.

Vaguer? I asked what constantly referenced masterpiece was defined by the character of John Stewart? How was I vague? It seems a fairly straight forward question to me. As far as I know, characters build interest and endear themselves by being written into stories that mean something. I haven't seen that with John Stewart. Obviously you feel Mosaic is that masterpiece. That's fine for you. But if you feel that is enough to graduate him to anything more that a second tier character you're nuts.

I don't even know what your argument is anymore. On one hand you're preaching Stewart's praises and on the other you're arguing why the iconic team with Hal Jordan should be the one used even though only one demographic will be represented. Going so far as to say, "Thems the breaks, it's not our fault white characters are iconic". If Duke Lacrosse has proven anything it's that Jackson has no problem jumping the racial gun whenever he so chooses. Assassinating the character of three WHITE boys without a shred of proof. And I think it's safe to say Duke was not 11 years ago, so some catching up on current events might do you some good.

Taking down a peg and having no impact what so ever must look an awful lot alike to you. But don't worry, I've provided you with plenty of smugness to take aim at.

So... I don't know if you're just excitable and reading too fast... I dunno... but so far you're entertaining, which is cool. Here's where things go awry.

CORRECT! YOU DON'T!! Do you know why? Because you don't care. Your goal is to 'be right.' It doesn't matter why or what Jesse Jackson attacks, it only matters that we don't have an all white league, so that means that Jesse Jackson WILL force some race into the WB movie, even though he's never done any such thing ever in his life.

Finally, by throwing out statements that "contradict" in your mind I've finally gotten you to wake up and ask a real question. And give me an opportunity to be honest. My arguement? Opinions are just flavoring. Starting from the base of reality is what makes a conversation worth having, and so I persue, to the best of my ability, the truth. Sometimes I fail to put aside my biases. Often I succeed.

In short I'd much rather discuss why writers choose not to explore John Stewart than why John Stewart fails to endear himself. The former is what happens in REAL LIFE. The Latter is fanboy idocy that finds support in other mindless fanboys.

My regard for your fanboy elitism, which doesn't exist but what the hell I'm not above throwing you a bone, still doesn't qualify Mosaic as an iconic story. And to help flesh out your infinite knowledge of all things GL. There are over 25 TPB that carry the Green Lantern title, not including Archive editions, and not one of them carries the name Mosaic. Now I'm sure to you, this is because Mosaic is simply too good, too iconic for a DC TPB. To the rest of us this is a characteristic of total suckage.

As for the movie. You've totally lost me. You should probably reread what you wrote, I don't know what the hell you said there. Maybe if YOU weren't so concerned with being right you wouldn't fall through the cracks in arguments.

Regardless of what you say, only a moron would assume an all white team of the MOST iconic Superheroes would escape criticism. And even more, that WB would knowingly put themselves in that situation. Especially after Jackson called for a boycott of several TV stations for not having enough black shows not more than 5 years ago. You can plainly see the efforts that DC has taken to bring more diversity into the comics. Or do you even read them? Several former white characters have been replaced with other ethnic ones. Go to DCComics.com and listen to some of the podcasts. A frequent question asked is about plans for more diversity. It's a bombshell WB wouldn't touch if you paid for the movie yourself. So change your diaper and quit crying over it. As Didio says, you still have the Alexrossiverse to find your iconic team.

I love the iconic team too, it's my favorite. And if it did show up on the screen no one would be happier. But Christ man, we don't live in the 70's anymore. Major studios aren't going to just ignore demographic potential just because some comic book fans can't deal with it. Lord of the Rings had no ethnic variety because there was none in the book and the existence of such a variety of different races of creatures was enough to mask the absence. King Arthur was the same, blacks were hard to come by in England back then. But since there is a black Green Lantern, why would WB take a chance on having to answer that question? If there is a black character that COULD be used to make as much of the audience feel like they matter why not use him?

Like Cool Hand Luke said, "Calling it your job don't make it right, Boss." The same way "But that's the iconic line up", don't make it right either.

Now, I've broken it down for you as best I can. You can carry on the rest of this argument with whoever happens along. And since you're so concerned with my "need to be right", by all means, you go take that title and run with it.

As I was taking the Amtrak Surfliner down to San Diego for the 'Con yesterday, I happened to look across the aisle and spotted a gentleman reading a script. It was some sort of JUSTICE LEAGUE project. Live or animated, I do not know. Info in bold should be redacted, please:

I know that Superman, Batman, The Flash, Aquaman, and Jon Stewart all appear in the script.
Maxwell Lord, OMAC, and someone named Talia (Al Ghul?) all appear. One of the OMACs is referred to as "Beta", so the story may involve the start of the OMAC project.

I don't think its wrong to like Hal Jordan and want to see him in a movie, I also don't think its wrong to want Jon Stewart in a movie or to like him either.
Or Kyle.

So what the movie should do, with whoever is in the first (Hal, Kyle, or Jon) the studio should leave it open so that other's favorite Green Lanterns can be in it.
If it starts with Jon as Green Lantern, leave it open for Hal to be in it too (like with implying that Hal was the first human in the GL Corps or hinting at a previous GL who gave Jon the ring)
If Kyle is the first hint at both Hal, Jon, maybe Guy, and maybe Alan.

For those who want Alan in the movie, maybe make him a retired cop type, a former GL who is retired now and a friend to the current GL or something.
If Hal is the star, make Jon a supporting character for the time being and then a bigger character in part 2 and then the star in part 3 or 4.

I just think it would be wise for the studio to either hint at these characters, leave room for them to come in (without changing their origins too much), and maybe make them supporting characters if they aren't the star of the film yet.

That way many people would be happy, knowing that their character wasn't forgotten and might eventually be the star in a sequal.

The movie could have Hal reassigned by the Guardians to another Sector of Space.
That way he could return in a future movie with almost a life time of experiance and stories,
hey,
maybe he could return as Parallex in a future movie (staring Kyle and Jon or something). The movie could be all about Hal being possessed by the alien Parallex. You know, start off with that upfront and not have it be something that is revealed much later on down the line.
That movie could be based around Rebirth.

Or having Hal retire works for me, then later on (after Kyles run), have Hal missing the ring and the adventures. He could ask Kyle and the Guardians if he could be the Green Lantern again.
Around movie 7 or 8.
I see the GL Movies going for a long time (if done right)




So does anyone want Guy to be the star of a Green Lantern film at all?
Because I keep reading about Hal and Kyle and Jon, but no mention that I have noticed of Guy (except him being a background character or something small like that)
I don't really mind him not being the star, he is a strong character who might not work as the star in my eyes.

7 or 8 movies? Way too much... looking for a trilogy, I think...

#1: Green Lantern

Hal is the main character, maybe with a little help from Alan Scott on how to use his ring and such. Carol's in there, so is Tom "Pieface"...

Sinestro chases Abin down to earth, where Abin gives the ring to Hal. Alan teaches Hal how to use the ring, and when Sinestro comes back to Earth to "teach" Hal, by orders of the Guardians, Hal realizes what Sinestro has done and they battle.

#2: Green Lantern Corps

Hal goes into outer space to join the Corps and to train under Kilowog. Other recruits are John Stewart and Guy Gardener. They fight the Manhunters, maybe Star Sapphire, maybe Mongul or some outer space villains. In the end, Hal returns to earth to see Coast City destroyed.

#3: Green Lantern Rebirth or Green Lantern Genesis

Fast forward past the destruction of the Corps. Kyle gets the ring and tries to put pieces together. John's in the wheelchair. Kyle trains under John and Guy and maybe Alan, then fights a smalltime villain, maybe Fatality, then fights Parallax in the end.

It might just be my own opinion, but I think 3 movies is good when the audiance is getting to know one character, like Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker/Spider-Man.
But you need many movies to get to know each Green Lantern character:
Hal, Jon, Kyle, Alan, Killowog, the GL Corps, the Guardians.
But done right the movies can continue on for a long time.
Done with several movies in mind, that way you get to know and love the characters over several movies.
I know several movies (around 8) is probably more than the studio is willing to gamble on it,
but I think if they have Hal as GL in the first film (with Jon as a supporting character)
then have Jon as GL in the 3rd film,

you have to give Jon at least two films as GL. Same with Hal or anyone else who becomes the Green Lantern.
You can't just have one film with Hal as GL, the part 2 have Jon as GL, then part 3 have Kyle as GL. That doesn't give the audiance enough time to get to know and love, or feel much of anything, for these characters.

Each character needs at least two to three films as GL.

by that time Kyle is GL in the fifth, then he diserves to be GL for at least two films.
Then we are into about film number 7, and you can bring Hal back even. (because if the franchise has survived 7 films why end it there.)

Plus with the characters changing it gives the studio a chance to bring in, once the franchise takes off, bigger actors and make a bigger deal when the ring is passed down.
Like when the mantel of Batman was passed from one actor to another,
only with GL its because the ring actually is passed to a new character.

Look how long Batman went on for, started in 1989 and went onto 1997 (when it almost died) and was re-energised in 2005.


Like I was saying earlier, if done right, Green Lantern can have several sequals and a HUGE franchise. It can go on for many many years. But only if it is done right,
If it is done right my sequal idea (the idea that would incorporate everyones favorite GLs at one time or another) would work and no ones favorite GL

would get left out.

But again, its just my thinking. Doesn't mean I am right.
Its just what I would like to see them do. ( I mean they have the switching actors built into the actual storyline of Green Lantern, why not use it.)

One movie is enough for any good character. Think of all the great movies taht don't have sequels. That said, a lot of the ideas you have are great, but they, they're just so decompressed they become unfeasable. Of course, if all the movies were awesome and kept getting better, then it could actually go down just like that.

My idea is a bit more simple: Make Hal and John partners from the very beginning. Even have Hal as a veteran if need be, but start out with two lanterns in every sector, like it is now. Let Hal be the villain in the third and Kyle be the junior partner. Let Guy get a hold of Sinestro's ring in the third and do some serious damage, earning him a special Lantern position at the end of the franchise. That's the best way to include everyone's lantern. If Hal fans weren't "Hal and Hal only" then pleasing everyone would be pretty easy.

Or better yet, leave things hopeless and spin it off into a TV series starring Kyle.
