The Gun Thread

Yes, you should abhor that there are people out there whom you may have to defend yourself against. You should just lay down and allow them to to whatever they want to to your property and family.

And since rocks and sticks can be used as instruments of pain and suffering, those should eliminated too.

So should hands! If no one had hands, we couldn't even pick up rocks, stick or guns! We should have them removed at birth! That way there is no chance of anything violent happening, ever!

I've currently got:

Glock 21

A family member recently passed away, and it turns out that they've given me this in their will:

Steyr Aug

I'd like to get my hands on an Aug.

The weekend before my apartment flooded, I hit up the local gun store and they had in their possession an HK SL8.

I almost bought it, but for $2000, I figured I could get an AR, AK and a pistol or two.
I went back last weekend to pick up my lower receiver for my AR and they still had it.

Yeah, those HK's are nice. I would love to try out the Super V. Those suckers look like such fun to shoot.

Interesting German engineering.

Lately I'm having financial struggles and issues with depression. It might tempt me to commit a robbery.

Well if you decide to you will find yourself on Worlds Dumbest Criminals since you just announced it on the forums.

Interesting German engineering.

I thought if I put a high powered scope on it would make it a cool looking "sniper" rifle, but the more I read about it and people's reviews of it, I was less than impressed. It fires a .223 round like an AR. It's difficult to get accessories for and some are expensive. Maybe if it comes down in price, I may get it sometime.

I'm looking to sell my .22 GSG-5 now.

Uh .. oh yeah , I don't plan on committing any hypothetical crimes . I suffer from forgetfulness, paranoia, and have a lackadaisical attitude. I still caution myself against owning a gun though.

How much? I MIGHT be interested.

I was thinking $400. I'll let the red dot I bought and all of the mags I got with it too. Everything I bought for it probably comes out to about $600. My friend loves it, so I am asking him first.

If he passes on it, let me know.

I found a GSG-5 at my local gun store today. It is used and fairly tricked out, kind of like yours (red dot sight, etc). They wanted $450 for it.

I also found a few shotguns that I liked, but didn't purchase any of them yet.

Will you pick up the GSG? I'd like to get another .22 sometime. Maybe the SCAR version that is out. They are fun, but .22lr ammo is so dirty it gets clogged up easily.

Not sure.
The shotgun (and a gun safe) is my priority right now, but you have me interested in the GSG.

I should get a gun safe, but since I rent an apartment if I move it will be a ***** to get it out of the place.

It was a lot of fun. I'm thinking in the summer I may grab some watermelons. We also talked about filling them with fake blood to see what it would look like. I may print out some zombie faces too.

I love zombie stuff. I like the site. It's pretty cool.

I have a question. Is it fair to say that, in general, guns were designed to kill. Wether or not someone uses it that way is irrelevant. I'm only looking at the weapon's intended purpose.

To clarify where I'm coming from on this, it started as a debate over the quote, "If guns kill people, than pencils misspell words." My point was that, while it is the responsibility of the killer who uses the gun, that is what the gun was made to do. The pencil was made to put marks on paper.

I'm not anti-gun, I'm not trying to blame a gun for murder, I'm simply saying that the gun was made to kill, be it an animal you hunt, or a person being murdered, that is what it was made to do.

Is that a fair statement?

It is a fair statement. It is not a fair assessment to divorce the intent of the user from the purpose of the tool to in any way demonize it.

Thanks for the reply, I was starting to wonder if anyone would.

I'm not trying to demonize the gun at all. They can be used for good, just as easily as being used for bad. Just saying that that is it's purpose, and to think that it's not is naive at best.

You still have to be careful with making a broad generalization about firearms as very specialized firearms designed for purposes other than killing exist. It doesn't mean that they aren't able to be used for death, but that wasn't the intent behind their design and reason for being built. There are also ammunition choices that are designed specifically to incapacitate and not kill. And there are firearms and ammunition that are designed specifically to kill and to do so efficiently and quickly.

So, while it is a fair statement, it is also a very general statement especially with modern firearms and ammunition.

True. One of the guns we were debating was the AR-15.

So basically this is going to be my next build except for a few things. The upper receiver is going to have a side charging handle. The barrel is going to be 20" or 24" and have a high powered scope. Then I am going to break down and get a suppressor for it. I'm going to try and get it sighted in at 400 to 500 yards.

Looks sweet.

I got that gun safe and already tricked it out to suit my needs and taste. Unfortunately I did not have much space or money, so those HUGE walk in style safes were not doable. But, this one will serve well for now.

I put battery powered LED lights on 2 different levels inside of it so you can clearly see everything (its in a closet, so its VERY DARK). I built and added an extra shelf (wooden) and mounted hooks underneath that shelf for hanging ear protection, gloves and handcuffs. I put some of my old agencies patches on the inside of the door as well.
I seriously go home, open it up and just look at my stuff every single day....my wife thinks I am sick. LOL

I added some of those LaRue red white and blue index clips to the top of my AR. It already has a laser etched flag, but I thought these looked cool (and were cheap).

I really need to take some updated pics of my AR and post them.

I am still shotgun shopping and have my eye on a couple of 9mm handguns. I passed on an awesome deal on a Kel-tec P-11 last week from a co-worker. I just did not feel like it was what I wanted for this particular need. Looking at Sig P239 and CZ P07 duty for 9mm right now.

In other news, www.Cheaperthandirt.com has a really nice sale going right now....its the 12 days of Christmas. They are currently on day #8. Lots of good stuff-ammo, handgun cases, zombie targets, etc.

I'd love to get a gun safe but if I move that thing would be a bear to move. I should turn one of my closets into a gun safe.

Share the gun picks man. let's see the safe too.
