No, you provide the beef. In the box is pasta and sauce, you add it to help out the beef. Hence the name, Hamburger Helper.

I love hamburger helper, it's perfect for modification.
I always add green and red bell peppers, spanish onion, garlic, celery, sometimes sausage chunks and a blend of italian herbs and various spices.

OMG. I'm one who thinks HH is perfect as is, but that sure does sound tasty!

I'm definitely not opposed to having it au natural, heck I've even had it without meat during rougher times... Beat the hell out of KD.


This is basically the lazy way my dad thought me how to cook, by modifying packaged foods :P!

You should definitely give it a try, definitely adds to the volume so they'll be apple leftovers and it'll taste so excellent.

Hamburger Helper is corrupting the traditional family. Mother, do you wonder why Tommy never eats at home? It's because hamburger Helper is #$%&.

Seriously, my mom would make it for the family then go off and eat a cold can of spinach because she hated hamburger helper.

People need to become more innovative is all, hell I can render KD awesome with hardly any effort.

It doesn't beat something made from scratch, yet for families with working parents who don't have the time to put so much effort into a true home cooked meal then making modified HH is a good alternative.

It just takes an extra 20 minutes to chop everything up, and you dump it in after you've drained the fat from the meat, then follow package directions.

One thing I like to do for ones like Chili Macaroni is add a can of plum tomatoes, and substitute some of the water with the tomato juice in the can, and if you want it to be really filling add some kidney beans into it when letting it sit for the last 5 minutes, which fresh shredded cheddar ontop to melt.

Yeah. Unlike what some of the people in this thread think, my family has always made home cooked meals from scratch. Unfortunately that just can't be done every night of the week, and HH is a substitute. Though, in my honest opinion, it sometimes tastes better than a home cooked meal.
