The Hangover

wow!
unbelievable second weekend!

what do people reckon this is going to end up with at the end of its run?

its looking like a huge total!

I reckon it might even come close to the highest ever R rated comedy which is Beverly Hills Cop from 1984.

Beverly Hills Cop did over $200 million domestic way back in 84, and is still the highest grossing R rated comedy ever.

This one is gonna push it mightly close I reckon!

I went to see it last night, and the theater was packed. People were standing in the aisles.

But yeah, this movie is just so hilarious, and having just been to Vegas myself, it hit me a lot better. And Zack Galifianakis was just a total riot from beginning to end! There's really no other words I can use, 'cause he definitely made the film. Then you've got Ed Helms, and the song he does, just priceless.

The pics during the credits were just crazy! And yeah, I'd like to assume (and hope) with that last pic, a prop was used (ala the end of Boogie Nights).

Soooo.... how the hell would a sequel work?

Lol Noone thinks Funny People is gonna be a funny a movie?

I think it will be funny but as every one says a lot of drama might slow down the momentum.

I don't know how they are going to pull off a sequel to hangover. They all get rufied again doesn't sound clever but I guess we'll see.

Something completely different yet involving the same characters would be the best way I think. Alan's a total f-up so he could be the catalyst.

I've never heard that before. So does your theatre like, sell tickets past the seating capacity or something?

I saw the movie and liked it but can someone tell me how this comedy ends up having a bigger debut than any of the generally more hyped critically acclaimed judd apatow work's that seem so prominent these days?

No, but some people didn't want to sit in the immediate front row, as those were the only seats left before the previews even started.

But i just dont see room here for a sequel. this film is perfect as a stand alone.

In my opinion it was a lot funnier than The 40 Year Old Virgin and Knocked Up. That and the fact that Apatow's films tend to run a little too long for comedies. I usually welcome long movies but when it comes to comedies, his could benefit by trimming off some of the fat.

A sequel would probably involve the guys invading a college frat party.

So far you can compare The Hangover with the first Pirates of the Caribbean.

First weekend: POTC $46,6 million
The Hangover $45 million

Second weekend: POTC $34,4 million
The Hangover $32,8 million

Both movies had a 27% drop in the second weekend. If The Hangover continue to perform similar to POTC it could end with something around $290 million. Perhaps that's too much to ask for, considering a lot of big summer movies are still coming up, while POTC was released a little later in the summer. But unless The Hangover suffer a surprisingly big drop the third weekend, $200 million won't be any problem to reach, and maybe not $250 million either

did anyone watch the Ed Helms interview on the Daily Show? it was really funny

It's already a huge success if you factor in its budget, which I'm sure is significantly less than the first (or any of) the Pirates movie. It's probably already made its budget back as it is. And it's still got this weekend to really clean up before Transformers comes out on Wednesday.

Collider says it's budget is $35 million

Saw this movie in the weekend and it was hilarious I laughed the whole time. :hehe:

The guys and their families could all go on vacation together with their families and hilarity ensues.

They can't rehash the first plot, with the guys doing something stupid, losing Doug, forgetting about it, and then having to piece together what happened. It should be more of a straight comedy.

I wonder if Doug will continue to be the straight man or if they'll give him some interesting quirks.

I'm all for a sequel so long as its done right.

I definitely wouldn't mind seeing these characters again. :cwink:

My best bet...Alan gets into some trouble somewhere (Mexico, Paris, etc.) and the boys have to go save him.

I agree. I think they shouldn't make a sequel at all but if they do then this is the way to go, IMO. They could call it Run, Fat Jesus, Run!! or something like that.
