It's hard to tell which one I like better, but I'd have to say that it's Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Can't wait til the Cursed Child script book hits.

Potter fandom is having a meltdown about the spoilers. People are too quick to judge. I think the spoilers sound intriguing.

Latest news on the Potter front: Rowling is out with her latest story on Pottermore, which talks about the history of the 'American Hogwarts' founded in the 17th century. This is a new Harry Potter school and hence there obviously are new Harry Potter houses - Thunderbird, Pukwudgie, Wampus and Horned Serpent (there had to be a Slytherin like house!). Love it!

My thoughts on The Cursed Child:

I enjoyed it. I can see why it is jarring to some fans. The pace is very different from the books (due to the change in medium) and the focus jumps around, rather than sticking with one character. As a result of the narrative changes, the world never feels as fully formed. We are never really reintroduced to Hogwarts or the wizarding world and never get to meet key players such as new professors, ministry officials, etc. It feels much more self-contained. Also, despite actually seeing what [blackout]Voldemort's wizarding world would look like[/blackout] the stakes never feel quite as high.

That being said, from a character perspective, I enjoyed it. Rowling clearly worked hard to make the relationships of Ron and Hermione and Harry and Ginny feel natural and she succeeds. Even the most ardent Harry/Hermione shipper cannot deny that the relationships make sense from a characterization perspective in this narrative. Maybe it doesn't undo the rushed nature of the relationships in the previous books, but it's is believable here.

Oh, and the Malfoys are amazing. One of my biggest complaints of Deathly Hallows is that Draco never gets closure or to come full circle. He indirectly causes Dumbledore's death and then just fades into the background of DH. This book gives us a satisfying end to Draco and his rivalry with Harry.

The biggest con is Albus. What an annoying, angsty ass he is. But, all things considered, he is a pretty realistic teenager.

Over all, it's not the strongest Potter story but it's not the worst. I'd rank it somewhere in the middle.

It does leave me with one question: how long until Rowling uses Twitter to reveal that Scorpius and Albus are together? There were entire pages that read like they existed solely for the purpose of working fanfiction writers into a frenzy.

Yeah, I read a review on Tor's website. Seems like one of those things that's better when you can actually...see the product in action, as opposed to reading a brief synopsis. Most intriguing was how Albus viewed Hogwarts.

Kudos to those who have complete series of harry potter book. I'm kinda disappointed because I only own 2 of them. Oh well, I'm planning to complete them by next year.

I've only read the first Harry Potter book, so that puts me leagues behind you guys. But I did enjoy it. The writing felt "dumbed down" to me at first, but it was only because it was the first book geared towards a much younger audience that I had read in a long time.

I imagine the books read "older" as the series continues, and I would like to continue reading the series in the future. As of last year I have now seen all of the movies.
Why u read only one book

I was looking forward to The Cursed Child until I read the spoilers. I won't be reading it now, those were enough.

I've been re-reading the books lately, and I can't help but get a little mad at how many great lines/moments of Ron's they left out or gave to other characters. I really hate how the movies tried to make him into a goofy sidekick.

I was re-reading Order of the Phoenix, and during Harry's Occulmency lesson, Snape tells him there's no such thing as mind readers. Yet that seems to be exactly what Queenie does in Fantastic Beasts, she doesn't seem to be using Legitmency.

So it was pointed out to me recently that every 'bad' character has their fans.

Voldemort has his groupies and apologists that write fanfics about how bad his childhood was and how he needed love.

The Malfoys are jerks but still not as bad as some make them out to be.

The other Deatheaters are *******s but still have people that like them.

Everyone has fans except one person.

Umbridge. She is the only person in all the fandom that every single person hates with a passion. I think it's pretty hilarious that the lead villain who was supposed to be magic Hitler has more sympathy than her.

Has anyone read the James Potter books? I know they're fanfics, but they've gotten pretty good reviews on goodreads.

Matt you're a lawyer, how did the writer get away with publishing those? Apparently there are four books in the series, with a final fifth on the way.
