The Healthy Hypesters Challenge

How do you make shin splits go away? Is there some kind of strengthing that keeps them from happening? I've always gotten them, it's why I never run.
also my dad was telling me about doing small exercises like picking up things with your toes help.

When I was physical therapy once, the therapist had a gal picking up marbles with her toes. :p it was a lot harder than you might think.

I need help! I work at a school, and there are always cakes, cookies, and candy floating around. Some class makes cupcakes for a project, or it's a kid's birthday, or we're celebrating a holiday, and there's always stuff left over.

How do I resist it? I was trained never to let food go to waste, there's starving children in China, finish your plate, ect. How do I stay strong when tasties are offered to me?

I've been in PT several times and learned many exercises that look ridiculous but have profound effects on the body. If I had the $$ and time to work in PT every week for the rest of my life, I'd do it.

How does you eating a cupcake feed a child in China? It don't. FedEx it to Beijing. Then, you can feed some kid in China.

I told myself long ago that Sweets are for weak people (I was a recruit in the Marine Corps) and after telling myself that for so long, I just lost the taste for Sweets. It's very rare I would eat any icecream or anything. Every Now and then I will have 1 or 2 girl scout cookies, but that isn't very often.

I'm reading this as I eat a bag of special edition winter chex mix. You're right, it just fills a hole inside called my lost childhood :waa:

But thanks, that might help.

Just stop buying them. Stop opening the Bag. Its up to you. Right now, I'm 24 days down from having a Cigarette. I've lost 16 pounds over the last 42 days. It's by Choice. Don't blame it on anything else but yourself. I want a cigarette so bad right now, but, I choose not to have one. You can choose to do the same.

Cut out junk, cut out those things you don't need. In the long run, you will feel better about yourself. Look at that bag, look how many calories are in each serving, and ask yourself if you even needed it.

decline the offer politely.

keep a pack of gum in your bag, or tic tacs or something like that so that whenever you feel like you might wanna cheat and grab one of them snacks you're trying to avoid, pop a piece of gum. chewing the gum simulates eating and it's been said helps you resist binge eating and eating when you're not really hungry.

if you do want to snack, why not bring something of your own in small portions, so you aren't tempted to sample everything else. there are a lot of healthy, tasty snacks out there.

wanna talk about temptation, i work at a huge grocery store. 20 aisles of just about anything you could imagine to eat. since i've really started to buckle down on my eating habits and my diet, my eating/snacking habits at work have changed a lot. when i'm on break and want something to eat, i'll usually grab a yogurt if i eat anything at all.
on my lunch break i'll have a sandwich or a yogurt depending on how hungry i am. today, i bought one of those small bags of salad, a pack of diced up chicken, and a small packet thing of ranch dressing, mixed it all up in a bowl and had my own chicken salad. i heated the chicken up in the microwave before i ate it, but it all tasted great. was under 4 bucks too

I gotta lose like 50 pounds by the end of the year. Arthritis sucks so being less heavy would hurt less

I usually bring extra fruit or a granola bar with my lunch in case I get hungry closer to quitting time. I get hungry a lot. The gum would help a lot, I bet. I'm pretty orally fixated and like having things in my mouth... err...

i went and played some basketball today

hadn't played in months easily, but i had a lot of fun. need to work on my jumper again lol

So I've been doing my diet for about six weeks now, and so far my pant size dropped a bit. I definitely feel it. According to my friend (who hasn't seen me since December) said I looked thinner, too. I stepped on a scale not too long ago, and I lost 8 pounds since I dropped the soda and started eating healthier. It's awesome, and I hope to continue the healthy eating habits.

the entire month of february, i promised to "give up" french fries if my friend quit smoking. sadly, she hasn't kept her end of the bargain, but I have

i'm actually thinking of carrying his over into March too. i've been keeping up with my water intake. I don't really see the weight i've lost but others are telling me that they are. i am going to have to buy some more jeans cuz none of em are really fitting me anymore

I'm in physcial therapy three days a week because I have mild to moderate arthritis in my hips and shoulders. I get the therapy free from work through a wellness program we have in place. It's made a very big impact on my life. I am more fit now than I've probably ever been. Yeah, some of the stuff they make me do looks kinda silly, but it works great. :)

if i missed anyone else, please let me know so I can update the thread.

i must say i'm very pleased with the progress i'm seeing in here and i'm so glad this thread didn't die. with all the motivation, suggestions, and encouragement in here, i think it'd be awesome if we all achieved at least one of our goals this year

I did some hanging sit ups! My whole body wants me to die!

MW, just keep telling yourself you love the Pain. In the Marine Corps, we said, "Pain is Weakness Leaving the Body". Just love that feeling, because it means you did something.
