The Healthy Hypesters Challenge

Their White Tea is pretty good, but it's too high in sugar.

Juice isn't any healthier. You might as well drink diet soda. Although water is really the best alternative.

Whoa, that's not true at all. If he gets 100% natural juice with no added sugar, it's very healthy. Soda is awful for you.

I'm banning everyone who doesn't meet their goal, how's that for motivation? :oldrazz:

Well, got 7 weeks of marathon training down, 10 more to go. Plus signed up for the Chicago Marathon this fall, so have two chances to complete my goal. Weekend run this Saturday is half marathon distance, 13 miles.

I'd run about half a mile and then keel over from shin splints. :p

I don't know how strapped you are for cash... but buy one or two of the super big bottles of smart water (or really any brand, I just prefer smart water). It's a little over fifty liters, and just sip on that all day. That virtually all the water you need in a day. And it saves on walking back and forth and continuously buying water (you can just refill it when you leave the house.)

It's what I do. But it's just a suggestion.

we sell Smart Water

I really like Smart Water, but if you are diabetic, make sure you monitor your blood sugars after you drink it for a while. It has the same stuff in it that gatorade has to keep you hydrated, so it's been known to effect a diabetics blood sugar levels, but if you follow closely, you should be ok.

i have a couple of water bottles that I use over and over.

I'm down 10 lbs from my highest weight :)

I killed the back tire on my bike, so until I get it fixed, it's the bus again. :csad:

Lost 3.5 pounds in 2 weeks. Want to lose 20 by the time I visit the GF in Europe in April. And no, it's not some bizarre "my girlfriend lives in canada" thing. She's just studying abroad for 8 weeks and I'm visiting.

Afraid I might be developing a small case of shin splints. They were hurting pretty bad during my run Tuesday, think I'm gonna drop one weekday run this week and next just to give my body a little bit of break.

shin splints became a problem for me as well. i guess thats what i get for going from watching day time television to running a mile a day. ive been off it for about a week now though and its starting to feel better, im just lowering calorie intake a bit and going for longer walks now to keep my weight loss about the same. :o then probably gonna ease back in to running soon enough, shorter distances, better shoes, try out some different strides.

How do you make shin splits go away? Is there some kind of strengthing that keeps them from happening? I've always gotten them, it's why I never run.

Streching. Strech out by standing on your tip toes, and down and point your toes up to the sky by standing on our heels. Rock back and forth for about 2-5 minutes. Also, get fitted for propper running shoes, ill fitting shoes help cause this too. All you have to do is ask the shoe salesmen at good shoe stores.

If you strenghen that muscle that streches down the front of your shins, you will be fine. I used to get them when I first started Boot Camp, they went away.

Thanks. :D

That's the key right there better shoes. If you're really looking at starting to run regularly, the best thing to do is go to a running store in your area that will fit you for shoes. In Chicago, there's a store called Fleet Feet, they have you run for about a minute on a treadmill and tape it to analyze your stride and pick the best shoes for the way you run. It's a free service there.

I don't think you can really any way to make them go away, just ice them and rest if they get really bad. My shins only hurt on this Tuesday's run, so it might have been a fluke. However, with the amount of training I've been doing, may have just tweaked something, gonna see how they feel on the treadmill today, since it snowed last night and is really icy outside today. Hoping I just had a weird bad day.

I pledge to do push-ups everyday for at least a year (unless I'm extremely ill and can't psychically do it), drink more juice and milk and things of the like, and gain atleast 5 pounds by Winter.

Weak, I know. But it's something.
