Yeah I wanna know how he's overrated as well lol nobody ever gives him his props where they are due if anything he's underrated cause Born Sinner >>>

Also, if anyone wanted to know. Kendrick's sophomore album is getting released in September, according to him.

I know yall seen that Anaconda music video....Just watch it on mute

The YouTube comments on that video are hilarious. It reminds me of when "Stupid Hoe" came out. YouTube posters obliterated that thing.

People praise him as one of the premier MCs out there right now. Ive heard him called the next Nas. Ive heard him to be called a legend in the making.

Suffice it say Im unimpressed. I love She Knows though. Beat is crazy.

He's not bad, and Im not saying he isnt talented, just nowhere near as good as the hype has him made out to be

Really?
-Grammy nominated
-Two number one albums; both of which went Gold (which by today's standards is really good) and were critically acclaimed
-Multiple top 50 Billboard Hot 100 hits. Some like Work Out and Power Trip went platinum.
-Cosigns from Jay Z, Nas, Drake, 50 Cent, and Kanye.
-Mentioned by Kendrick on the Control verse
-Being able to get $125k for some concerts/shows

All that prove that the people and critics like or love him. Who, other than MTV and their Hottest MCs list, is not giving him his props?

Look at most music blogs or websites like Complex or XXL. Look at hip hop forums, youtube comments, etc. You look around and J Cole gets plenty of praise all around.

Also, if anyone wanted to know. Kendrick's sophomore album is getting released in September, according to him.

Source?

Because that was rumored a while ago but was proven false. I think he's popular enough now to pull a Beyonce and just drop an album but I dont think he'd do it.

Kanye or Jay Z on the other hand...

Nicki is hot, but... I don't relate to the lyrics.. is she making fun of the idea of women "giving it up" for Sugar Baby status, or was she being serious? The song came across as self-parody, essentially.

side note- No cameo from Sir Mixalot?

I only look at one other hip hop forum and they never mention J. Cole but as far as him getting his props im not talking about from the industry, im talking about from regular everyday people, just go on twitter every time J. Cole is brought up somebody slanders him about being boring or making "Zzz" type music.

Nope no cameo, I wonder how much he got paid for the sample usage tho lol

As I pointed out, he has two gold albums, a number of successful singles, and can demand high pay for appearing at shows. And something that I didnt say before, his official mixtapes are popular on Datpiff.

If regular people didnt give him his props he wouldnt have any of that. What would he need to be considered as getting his props?

And in other news: Suge Knight was shot. Again
SUGE KNIGHT SHOT AT CHRIS BROWN’S PRE-VMA PARTY
AUG 24, 2014 | SHAWN | NO COMMENT | CELEBRITY NEWS
Suge Knight, founder of Death Row Records, underwent surgery after being shot during a pre-VMA party hosted by Chris Brown at 1OAK nightclub in West Hollywood last night (Aug. 23). According to TMZ, Knight received a wound to the arm and stomach and walked out of the club before being placed in an ambulance and taken to the hospital.

Along with Suge Knight, two other people were injured and taken to L.A.’s Cedars Sinai Hospital, one of the victims in critical condition. Witnesses at the club believe Chris Brown was the intended target during the shooting.

Video from after the shooting shows the club’s guests exiting 1OAK with their hands up, while members of the Sheriff department are positioned out front with guns drawn.

Prior to the shooting, the night was off to a shaky start when Game got into a fight with security guards resulting in his departure.

This morning Chris Brown spoke on last night’s madness via Twitter stating: “It’s disappointing that we as a society can’t have fun or enjoy ourselves without any altercations sometimes. Miss me with the ********!!!”

You not giving him his props just by calling him overrated LMFAO, what you know what that mans pockets is like tho? What sources are you getting this info from? The internet & hearing people constantly talk bad about him in real life and call him overrated like you just did are 2 different things. yeah he's popular but his name never gets brought up in any rap debates, im from NC & its sad nobody here even gives him credit where its due except for the radio. Im not saying that he isn't successful. But he should be mentioned with the Drake's & Kendrick's alot more often than he does. Nobody was even comparing the 2 until the Control verse & Drake said him and Cole are the only 2 kings, it seems like the rappers give him more respect than fans do

I think you're really missing or not understanding my points.
First: Of course Im not giving him his props by calling him overrated.

Second: Sources for what? For how much he can make a show. I provided that with a hyperlink in a previous post. But in case you need another source: http://www.xxlmag.com/news/2014/05/find-out-what-your-favorite-rapper-charges-per-show/
and here's the first one if you need it again
http://www.complex.com/music/2014/08/how-much-does-it-cost-to-book-rapper/j-cole
If you need sources for which album went gold. It's all over the internet. You can find it. Im not making it up.

Third: You say: "His names never get brought up in rap debates." I think that's not true at all. Deadendhiphop, a great site and youtube channel, bring up J Cole a lot; so do members of their online community. Complex has brought up in rap debates. He was brought up in MTV's Hottest MCs debate. He's brought up on Rap Genius. Hell he even was prominetly featured in a GQ issue and that doesnt happen to every rapper to get in a magazine like that. And Ive personally heard a lot of my friends talk about him. He gets brought up man maybe not by those around you, but he's mentioned
And talking about him on the internet and hearing people say that in person can not be the same thing, but when you pair it with the facts that so many sites sing his praises (and not just "hipster/backpacker sites") he has good singles, and he sells well proves his popularity and impact. If he was just getting mentioned on the internet but his album wasnt getting acclaim or sales I'd agree with you.
A lot of people say Drake and Lil Wayne are overrated on the internet, but does that not mean that they dont get their props?

Fourth: I think there is a miscommunication. You think he's not getting his props because he isn't mentioned all the time with Kendrick and Drake. At least that's what Ive gotten from this post.
If that's the case, no he isn't always mentioned with Kendrick or Drake (although I have heard Cole, Drake and Kendrick mentioned a lot as the "leaders of the new school"), but that's because Kendrick had good kid maad city which is seen as a modern classic and Drake has a huge female fanbase and a lot of star power.

Cole gets his props without a doubt. Does he get as much props as Drake or Kendrick? No. He definetly is top 3 (top 5 at the lowest) when people are talking about these new age rappers and that was even before Control.

On another note: Childish Gambino is someone who I dont think gets his props and I wasnt even that hot on his last album, but I feel that hip hop doesnt respect him that much

yeah thats basically what im saying. I feel he is better lyrically than Drake but I agree Gambino doesn't get his props either and that new song he dropped yesterday I feel like he was going at Drake as well

watching the VMA's right now and im so sick of Iggy and her fake ass accent she raps with. Using black culture to get her success in the pop world smh

When I first heard Iggy rap, I honestly thought it was a joke. It was like "am I suppose to take this seriously?". Especially since there's a video on YT where she apparently tired to be a singer before rapping.

Lmao she a gimmick, and clearly doesn't write her own material

Yeah i was just about to listen to it

EDIT: They messed up by not releasing it for free and releasing it tonight. Shouldve waited Monday or Tuesday morning. People are still too hyped over the VMAs to care. It's not even trending on Twitter

The thing about Iggy that is so annoying is that people are acting like she's here to stay. I am 90% sure that she wont be around long. She has 3 popular songs. So did f***ing Yung Joc. And Iggy's 3 popular songs are just popular for girls.

I dont wanna be "that guy" or pull "that card" but I feel that the only reason Iggy is being pushed so much is because she's a white female. Nicki didnt even get this much of a push when she was first coming out.

Ive said this before about Flo Rida, Drake, and some other artists. And I hope this doesnt jinx it,but I'd be incredibly surprised if 3-5 years were talking about Iggy for her music.

Im not going to completely hold that against her. I does lessen the impact for me when a rapper doesnt write at least a majority of his/her rhymes but I still like Eazy E and Dr. Dre and they admit that they dont write their raps. But at least their flow and their voices sound good unlike Iggy.

G unit - The Beauty of Independence is fire

After listening to it, I have to disagree.

The only song I would consider keeping is Watch Me. Changes started off strong with 50's verse but then fell apart.
-Banks just sounds terrible, like his voice. It keeps getting worse and worse everytime I hear it.
-Kidd Kidd had some good lines and I think at least one good verse. I still think they shouldnt include him in G-Unit.
-50 was bad. His verses were weak. His verse on Watch Me started off great with the first line but then just tanked
-Buck was the only one who sounded good throughout. Buck would get great if he signed to another label.

The hooks were really wack and all the beats sound like theyre from soundcloud. As far as their subject matter? Eh. It's not that I mind gangsta rap, I actually really enjoy it. But Ive heard it done so much better from Pusha T, Schoolboy Q, Freddie Gibbs and not just lyrical rappers I feel like Young Jeezy, YG, and Meek Mill are much better at gangsta rap than the Unit was on this EP. And Im not even that big a fan of Meek Mill.

50, and the Unit in general, need to work with better mainstream producers at the least. Mike Will Made it, DJ Mustard, Just Blaze, Young Chop, and Timbaland.

Cant believe they expect people to pay for this

Don't think I agree with a thing you just wrote other than Buck being great so, whatever. It's like you didn't even listen to it. 50's verse on watch me started off great with the first line? the first line was "i think I love these h**s a n**** tryna f*** em all"

When did schoolboy q become lyrical?

YG, Jeezy and Meek mill on the same level as 50 buck or banks youre out of your mind.

Why 50 or G unit need to work with those garbage/washed up producers for? DJ mustard? What?

J Cole has good music if you feel like listening to something to clean your room to or if you're having a hard time falling asleep.
