Still good stuff getting made, just requires some digging. The best hip-hop was never on the radio anyway.

I can see where you're coming from. I much prefer 90's hip hop because that's what I grew up on, but there are some gems in the modern stuff. Kendrick Lamar is an undeniable genius. All of his albums are terrific. I liked the latest Run the Jewels and Childish Gambino's latest album I enjoyed quite a bit too.

Yeah it's your fault if all you do is look to the radio. There are loads of creative and inventive hip hop (rap music or hip hop influenced R&B) out there

I'm fact it's a lot better because music is so much easier to find.

Spotify has been hugely helpful for me with finding new music in every genre. They have a playlist for just about every taste and they're always full of surprises.

Yeah there is good rap out there. It's just that the "mainstream" tends to ignore these artists because they don't talk about money, cars, sex etc.

Who's the most badass rapper today? I'm thinking Kendrick?

This particular one is a mix of ‘What’s My Name‘ (that was written by the Artist in 1993 and later released in 1998 on “Crystal Ball”) & “The Sacrifice of Victor” (that was included on the 1992 Symbol album). It is quite a fascinating blend of two powerful songs that, in unison, produce a magnificent composition about the roughness of life & a level of endurance that it takes to get through it.

    * Fun Fact: this song was also performed, live on stage, along with Kendrick Lamar on 30th of September, 2014.

Yeah obviously. For my money he's the number one rapper in hip hop today.

I'm slowly revisiting Hip-Hop as I lost interest around the time of Snoop Dogg, Puff Diddly-Squat (or whatever he calls himself nowadays), Eminem, etc. Having watched Straight Outta Compton, The Get Down and Hip-Hop Evolution lately has rekindled my interest.

So which album did I begin with first?! Why, Public Enemy's Fear of a Black Planet, of course... ;)

I've always admired Chuck D and will soon delve into the remainder of their catalogue. I also hear that the album they released last year was very good too.

And upon listening to FoaBP, I've been having dreams of Public Enemy collaborating with Living Colour. I would so love to see that become a reality someday, as I know the guys in Living Colour follow that genre too, obviously. Just imagining Will Calhoun behind his drumkit with Doug Wimbish laying down some sick grooves while Chuck D raps a few compelling lines - then Corey Glover can come in and lay down some killer vocals like he always does where necesarry - then cut to a tasty guitar solo by Vernon Reid somewhere in the music. That would be so damn cool, IMHO. :)

And speaking of Living Colour, check this out... :)

Not just j.Cole (plus a new Miguel/J.Cole colab, I love it!) But Childish Gambino's "This is America" video is fire as well!

This Is America - Donald Glover

All I can say is wow on that one. Love the tune but the video makes it truly amazing. Talking about layers within layers there.

Also nice to see Donald doing something so edgy/provocative right before Solo comes out. Just shows what type of artist he is. He's always been true to himself from his stand-up does till now with being thrust into some pretty major stardom.

EDIT: Haha Ironman beat me to it while I was typing it up.

I've had This is America stuck in my head since it dropped. Does Childish have another album coming soon? I know he said he was retiring Childish, but I'd like another album from him soon.

Could be one of those scenarios where he no longer releases anything under Childish Gambino but does things under just his regular name or another pseudonym.

^ "This Is America" was released as a Childish Gambino song though. What a song too, and an incredible video.

Royce Da 5'9"s "Book Of Ryan" is a fantastic album.

    We don't deserve Donald Glover.
