I just finished watching this documentary on the biography channel called, The Unknown Jesus. It was supposed to be about the historical Jesus...but it barely talked about that. So, I was just wondering what info we have on the historical Jesus. Do we have any solid evidence?

The Bible.

Unless you get it all wet or something it's fairly solid. ;)

It's a sensitive subject, I guess.

You could try google or something I guess, I've heard it said there's proof that Jesus was a real man, but beyond that there's really only the Bible I think.

Jesus was some dude who ate a lot fish, bread and wine. End of story.

Whatever happened to Mindworm  I'm sure he could enlighten us :)

I was gonna say "how do you eat wine?"

But I'm sure He could've managed it.

or Bevets oops wrong board :o

There've been plenty of specials on "the real jesus". From what I've gathered, he was probably married, he might've had kids, he wasn't a carpenter, he wasn't white, and some other crap I can't remember.

i remember hearing that his real name was yehushua also. Basically though, historians believe "Yehushua" was a jewish teacher from Galilee who was baptized under John and crucifed under the Romans for sedition. There is a great possiblility he was married with children...

Maybe. Alot of their information is stolen from legitimate sites.
it is actually you'd be suprised at how legitimate wikipedia is...damn teachers just like us to do extra unecessary work for bibliographies :o

That special was based mainly on the Gnostic gospels which are the product of cryptic and insular cults. Historically, they have little value other than being another clue to Jesus being a person of great interest in that era.
The synoptic Gospels and John were written ( and copied over and over ) by close followers of the early Christian community. Of course, they are theologized and contain many articles of faith but there is also an existing historical figure within them.

It was actually "Y'shua". It's pronounced Yea-Shu-Ah.

They are important in terms of history. The theology aspect is up to you to decide. I don't think it's bull. I think it's the most important thing we can learn.
