"The Hobbit" offered to.....SAM RAIMI!

Strange, but I can't see anything good there.

For me, it's just like making T4 :down

The Frighteners:

Good: Had Michael J. Fox

Bad: Erm...everything else.

I think alot of people loved The Frighteners! I'm probably wrong but isn't it a cult classic?

And I don't think Jackson did Lawnmower Man.

It's okay, I thought The Frighteners was awesome. It's one of my favorite ghost movies. After watching that film I always imagined what it would be like if Peter Jackson did Ghostbusters.

It's not the best film in the world, but the special effects are damn good and Michael, Jake, John, and Chi were very good in the film. Jake was all kinds of creepy in the film, even though it's not surprising considering who his father is.

Overall great ghost film.

See... some other people dig it too!

God damnit :csad:.

They'll get Alvin Sergant to write the script. Bilbo will be an blubbering emo who feels sorry for himself all the time.

Haha! (evil laugh inserted)

sam raimi- can he do dark? i mean that dark- not spidey dark. I was not a fan of spiderman or the sequel. this is extremely disappointing news. and this is the guy that gave us the tv series- young hercules!

Huh? The Hobbit's not dark .

yes it is- its at least as dark as the lord of the rings in tone if not in subject matter. i hope he keeps the style consistant.

The ending's a bit grim, but it's not what I'd call dark.

Ya'll should have faith in Big Sam.

P.S. To those who say that Jackson is more suitable because he has proven himself with the source material:

well keep in mind that before LOTR Jackson gave us the average Dead Alive movies (below Evil Dead), the awful Frighteners and what was mediocre in Lawnmower Man (I think that was him, though don't quote me).

Raimi has shown more versatility before SM and his ego hasn't ballooned from the Spider-Man movies, while Jackson's since LOTR obviously has.

I agree. Although I think Frighteners is entertaining. Nothing special but very entertaining.

gollum and the caves- the dragon- the trolls trying to eat them- i call that dark

Don't say anymore! I haven't read the book.

Raimi can handle dark. Spider-Man was like his first light-hearted movie.

I thought The Gift was really darkish.

Mmhmm... but The Gift was non-existent with the comedy element.

just look at "simple plan", then look at "army of darkness", or "spider-man 2" the guy knows how to hit all of the beats, I'm sure he could pull-off an interesting take of the hobbit. Essentially if it's not PJ, then Raimi would be my second choice..

I don't think comparing it to T4 is fair- Cameron has such a distinctive style and Mostow is pretty average...Sam Raimis "Hobbit" would be far superior to "T3".....I'd give him a chance.

Exactly. And, Evil Dead 1 was a horror film. It was the two sequels which introduced the comedy elements.

Jackson and Raimi came out of the same hat....so, yeah it'd be interesting to see Sam Raimi's take.

Wow. As a fan of the book and a little bit of a LOTR's geek I have to say that I wasn't really happy with Sam Raimi getting offered the job. I'm a fan of his but I was hoping for a lesser director that would keep the feel of the PJ movies instead of creating his own.

The more that I think about it though maybe having some new blood and a guy that has made some quality movies is a good thing. There are also parts of Army of Darkness that seem to hint that he's a Rings fan. So maybe keeping an open mind is best for now.
