Okay, I was talking with a few people today about the Treyvon Martin situation and one person who butted in the conversation felt that talking about it was too "controversial", and if it the "race card" is played it proves that a lot of people are racist. I ask them why would they feel uncomfortable talking about it if they were talking about Casey Anthony all summer. Long story short, it got me thinking about what opinions from others are about this. So, let's see if we can talk about this without too much name calling. Thoughts?

Zimmerman and Martin's girlfriend tell sharply contrasting accounts. Zimmerman claims Martin attacked him, while the girlfriend claims Zimmerman was following Martin and Martin was only trying to get away.

I don't know exactly what happened in the situation.

One thing I do know is Geraldo Rivera is a clown who will say absolutely anything to keep himself relevant. And I have serious doubts that he would blame the hoodie if it was a white kid who got shot.

Also, the media always uses a picture of Martin from when he was twelve, when in reality he was a 6'3 18 year old.

Guess they've made up their minds he was an innocent child murdered by evil racist Zimmerman, because that's the juiciest story for them to talk about.

I posted this to my Facebook:
"Facebook friends. In the past couple of days I have seen emotions and tempers become heated in the wake of the Trayvon Martin case. My black friends are upset and demanding justice. My white friends wondering where the media coverage to the two black boys who set the white boy on fire is. The only way we are going to get thru this is together. Black, white, asian, hispanic, muslim, christian, straight, gay...the enemy wants us to be at each other's throat. Demand justice, but don't be blinded to the truth. Do not be outraged because a young black or white boy is killed. Be outraged that a boy was killed. Be outraged that there is a law that made killing legal in Florida. Hate will never conquer hate. Love conquers all."

The media is delighted to see someone die, as long as its in a juicy way.

Preferably a child. Minority child, even juicier.

This Stand Your Ground law is insane. It does basically give people the right to murder. A teenager is killed for being out at night and a father is killed over someone skateboarding. I guess the policy in Florida should be don't argue with anyone cause that's justifiable homicide.

I'd say that case is a hell of a lot more important. Considering a 10 year old little girl will never get to see her father again and a wife will never see her husband.
But was he a minority child?

The Stand your Ground Law turns Florida into the freakin' Wild West. The NRA must love this. More guns. More fear. More accidents and ironically even More guns.

Crazy stuff man :(

Nope. He also wasn't a rich white teenage girl either.

The Iraq vet was shot by an old black dude. He survived Iraq and got killed here. Sad stuff. The 71 yr old should be charged the same way as Zimmerman should be.

'Stand Your Ground' should be scrapped. It's licensed murder.

It hardly got any coverage though. That's my point. The fact that it was a black guy killing a white guy probably had something to do with that. Ignoring the fact that a little girl witnessed her father being killed right in front of her for nothing other than beating a guy who pulled a gun out in front of her. The Treyvon case is tragic to , but I've heard so much conflicting stuff.

Honestly, anything having to do with race pisses me off because that's all the media wants to focus on. As a few have stated already,it shouldn't be about race...it should be about someone being killed! Someone lost their life. That's bad enough. Race shouldn't matter, unless people are sure that it was a hate crime.
But...it does makes me angry when people like Al Sharpton and agitators like him always want to feed the hate. If a black/woman man is killed by a white man/woman,then people like Sharpton and others cry racism to all who will listen. Anytime something happens to someone of color it's always about racism. But when a white man/woman is killed by a black man/woman it always gets buried and you never hear anything about it.
It has always seemed to me,in this country anyway, that racism against blacks, asians, hispanics;etc is wrong, but racism against whites is ok. And that is just wrong.

What exactly is this "stand your ground" thing? If you get into an argument or fight, it's ok to pull out a gun and shoot them?

The above case wasn't racially motivated. It was just an a****** of an old man who brought a gun to a park full of children. I was pretty mad when I heard about the Channon Christian and Christopher Newsome murders on STORMFRONT of all places , but nowhere else. I'd post a link talking about the murders , but decided not to since the details are a tad bit....graphic. Long story short , two white college students got carjacked by some black guys in Tennessee on their way home from a date. Then some of the most disgusting and horrifying stuff happened to both of them. Channon dying in a gruesome way. Anyway the media admitted they didn't cover the story because whites might not have been able to control themselves.:whatever:

I just only heard about that today. Disgusting and sad. :csad: It just makes what I pointed out in my previous post seem all the more true.

It's a sad state of affairs all around.

Trayvon got killed by a Hispanic and said hispanic dude is still free a month later after shooting the 17yr old kid. Because of police bungling and the Stand your ground law in Florida, he wasn't even charged. The man should stand trial at the very least.

Well, I stole this from a thread at another forum...but it's totally the truth! Had to edit it though.

"Zimmerman, in the long run, is a distraction. At this point, I almost don't even care whether he was justified or not. I care more why the cops didn't bother to check.

Hell, for that matter, if Zimmerman had been charged with something... do you really think we would be having this conversation at all? As crappy as it is to say, innocent people get murdered for horrible, horrible reasons all the time. And it rarely makes national news, and usually only then because there's some kind of extra hook. This isn't about Trayvon's murder. This is about the tacit approval (and yes, I like that phrase) of Trayvon's murder by the Sanford PD. And focusing on the specifics of the murder, while I can understand it, is a distraction from the larger, scarier miscarriage of justice.

That said, it's easier to place the blame on an individual than an organization."

So basically the REAL reason why Martin's case is getting so much media attention is because of the game of coverup played by the police. Zimmerman is simply a distraction from the REAL issue at hand. Having Zimmerman as a fall guy is basically what the Sanford PD is doing. The reason why the gruesome case of the white couple who were murdered by black people not getting media coverage has nothing to do with race, it's that the fact that the police didn't let their murderers off with a pat on the back and a handshake. However, people are going out of their way to distort the situation and make all of it some sort of a race war. Yeah Zimmerman was wrong, but the Sanford PD was even more wrong, and they are only using Zimmerman to put themselves beneath the notice of the public eye.

Not sure how one case is "more important" than the other. Two people were murdered when you get right down to it.

Don't get me wrong. The murders are absolutely tragic and racially motivated but there is a definite distinct difference. The culprits for those murders have been charged, arrested and convicted.

Zimmerman is still walking free.

I'm saying the David Jame's murder is more important because it's pretty clear about what went down. The Treyvon Martin murder has so much conflicting audio ,eye witness testimony , and people who knew Zimmerman give other testimony regarding Zimmerman's character.

I kind of get what your friend means.

I mean, race definitely seems to have played a role in the shooting, and that right there starts you thinking about whether it would be a tense issue for blacks and whites to discuss and whatnot.

But it really isn't. And shouldn't be. Why? Because what happened to that kid is just so obviously wrong that even people who may be a little racist should agree that it was a horrible occurrence that should never happen again.

I know plenty of slightly racist people - let's face it, anyone white and over 50 or 60 was pretty much raised in a racist culture. And I (thankfully) haven't heard a single one of them do anything but condemn what happened. This isn't about welfare or drugs or some other social topic where there's a grey area - it's really about murder. And from everything we've heard, there's really no "white" angle to it; that kid really didn't seem to do a single thing wrong outside of be concerned for his own safety.

I've spoken with multiple black co-workers about it, and if anything, I had a stronger opinion about it than they did. They were all concerned about the Stand Your Ground law, but I myself am more shocked that it's legal for someone to carry a concealed weapon while on neighborhood watch. If that isn't vigilantism, I don't know what is. Not to mention that the dude was told by 911 not to pursue the kid and he did. It was just awful in general.

It's racist how the media and race baiters like Al Sharptounge called Zimmerman a White-Hispanic. I guess that makes Obama a White-African American.

You know what should happen? This should go to court. This kid apparently wasn't as innocent as everyone is making him out to be but it is tragic that he paid his life for his aggressions. Zimmerman should go to court and let a jury of his peers decide how he pays for his aggressions.

Actually the original convictions where over turned because the judge who was in charge of the trial was found to be on drugs. So a whole new set of trials has begun.:whatever:

Who cares about this crap? It's just more media BS. None of it's genuine or important to almost all parties involved, unless it involves making money in ratings or views.

Look at Casey Anthony. That's all over with. Nobody cares anymore. I bet you just read that name for the first time in 6 months. Meanwhile, a little girl is still murdered, and nobody knows why.

Spend your time on more fun things, guys. This world is crap. Nothing to see here. It's always been crap, and it will continue to be crap until we're old and dead. Go run in the park, have a cookout with friends, read a novel, shoot some zombies on the ol' XBOX, watch a stupid SyFy movie.

I used to be really invested and involved in this kind of stuff. Politics, media, social issues, etc. Now it's just all pointless and silly to me. Life is too short.
