The Horror Thread - Part 1

Blockbuster did drive out a lot of the smaller businesses, the ones who didn't impose their inconsistent and doublestandard values on their customers.

Whenever it was possible I'd always visit a non-Blockbuster video store to rent from but that gradually became impossible when there weren't any left. Except one place where I lived that I think actually barred Blockbuster from setting up shop and we had a independent place to rent from instead. They always had horror movies imparticular I could never find at Blockbuster.

I remember riding my bike to Blockbuster the morning Scream came out on video to rent it. I think I watched it like three times that weekend we had it. Such good times.

Has anyone here ever watched Chopping Mall from the 80s? Its about robots that patrol a shopping mall and some kids break in (I think to party) and get dispatched one by one. The robots look like giant Johnny 5s lol. Its been years since I last watched it but I remember enjoying it for what it was.
I remember, when I was a kid, renting that movie based on the VHS cover alone...

Had no idea it was about killer robots until actually watching it.

That hand holding the bag could easily be mistaken for an alien or some kind of monster, and less likely a robot. Misleading or vague covers are always a staple though sometimes the worst looking covers do have some great movies behind them.

Man, I need to get this on DVD already. Love this movie. So much fun.

I use Blockbuster online since Netflix doesn't have everything. It takes too damn long to get a movie though.

I remember Blockbuster shutting down here. Went to 3 different ones a picked up about 50 to 60 dvds. Man, wish they were open again just so they could close again.

One thing I hated when I had a free trial with Blockbuster's service was that you could trade in DVDs you got from the mail in at the store for a new movie, but you couldn't trade in the one you got from the store (if that makes sense). I didn't like how they force you to wait a few days to get your new movie instead of just letting you keep trading in-store discs.

Neon Maniacs was a weird yet oddly entertaining old horror film I watched.

I occasional watch the horror channel here in the UK

I really wanted to do a better marathon this year, but BB takes too long. I'm not gonna be able to watch all the movies I put on my list. My main goal is watching every F13 and NoES, and concluding with FvJ.

That's what I love about Netflix streaming...there are enough on my list to watch them as I wait for new DVDs to arrive. I don't foresee much of a problem at all with having a new movie every night.

Yeah that cover is definitely misleading. I already knew the premise when I saw it cause a Nate of mine lent it to me.

On the subject of horror I'm currently watching Freddy vs Jason and I can't believe I never noticed how bad the acting is in his film. Doesn't really bother me mind cause I love to see bad actors get killed on screen lol

Finally bought this gem! And the cinematography is by Wally Pfister:

How is it that two different major Nolan collaborators, Pfister and Goyer have been involved in two different horror films called The Unborn?

Also, Wally Pfister did the cinematography for Amityville Horror 6: It's About Time (1992). I didn't even know there was an Amityville Horror 3-through-5, let alone a 6. :oldrazz:

This guy won the Oscar for Inception!

Just watching an episode of Hammer House of Horror, I've never watched the series, saw the episode Children of the Full Moon the other day and thought it was fantastic. So I bought the series and am watching The House That Bled To Death.

Anyone ever see No One Lives?

I've seen it. It reminded me a bit of You're Next in that it kind of sets up the scenario then changes it a bit (though you see it coming). It was pretty fun, though there are a few really stupid scenes that they really should have thought over a bit more. The lead actor is the new Crow...and there's a few moments where he seemed to be rehearsing for the role. I remember that the lead actress is really pretty...looks like the third "sister" of Michelle Williams and Carey Mulligan....but I thought that she wasn't up for the task of convincingly playing her role (in fact, I saw a bit of her acting in the few minutes of Silent Hill 2 that I watched and she shows about the same range in that). Go ahead and watch it, just for the hell of it.

I met Heather Langenkamp today. She was really nice and answered the questions I had about her experiences in filming.
