Blockbuster did drive out a lot of the smaller businesses, the ones who didn't impose their inconsistent and doublestandard values on their customers.
Whenever it was possible I'd always visit a non-Blockbuster video store to rent from but that gradually became impossible when there weren't any left. Except one place where I lived that I think actually barred Blockbuster from setting up shop and we had a independent place to rent from instead. They always had horror movies imparticular I could never find at Blockbuster.
