The Horror Thread - Part 2

There's so much that could've been good but it fell flat you would think Rachel Talalay with all of her experience producing the other films would've made a much better film. I give her this much she started out with large expectations for the film and none of them really paid off.

Just watched Candyman for the first time this morning.

Damn was that a good movie, really surprised I hadn't seen it until now.

One of the few horror films where I personally believe the antagonist should of been at least nominated for a Oscar (Tony Todd)

Just watched it myself a week ago, except it was possibly the 20th time for me. :yay:

It's actually a very beautiful, romantic film. I know that sounds ridiculous to people who never saw it, but it's photographed so exquisitely, and it's just a gorgeous, almost heartbreaking film. It actually reminds me of Beauty and the Beast in a way :hrt:

I was on a Clive Barker kick and did a double feature with this and Hellraiser. Another awesome, sexy, beautiful film!

I'm actually not the world's biggest Clive Barker fan, but those two movies are fantastic. He's usually a little too gory for me.

You could also describe Candyman as a grotesque love story.

Candyman is one of the best horror films to ever come out of the 90's and at the time was a very original and stimulating idea and story, I still get a very tense feeling every time I watch it to this day.

For the longest I've written it off as another slasher. It's really that good?

I'm just not too fond of his death. I think the ways they defeated him in past movies, except for the first film, were a bit more satisfying than his defeat in Freddy's Dead.

I watched The Purge earlier and all it did was piss me off.

Nothing was really likeable about any of the characters, and whilst the concept was pretty cool it seemed rather dull just to constrain it to one location.

Freddy's Dead is so bad.

Freddy's Dead was very bad. However, and I know I am in the minority on this, but Dream Child does not deserve all the hate it gets. It's visually one of my favorites in the series, and I really liked the storyline. Also, outside Nancy, Alice is by far my favorite protagonist out of all the films. I'm glad she made it out of the series alive.

That's one classic horror movie that I wouldn't mind being remade. Hell, I wouldn't mind a 4th movie with Tony Todd returning. Oddly enough, an amazing remake of Hellraiser could be achieved too.

I think that character (Candyman) could - and should - be way more popular and relevant than he currently is. Not only is he one of the few black icons of Horror (and a great one at that), but I personally put him up there with Freddy, Jason, Michael, and so on.

I've also always been very intrigued by the significance of Candyman being African American (aside from "Why not?"). It's not a case of the perfect casting happening to be a black man, but he's written as a black antagonist. It's set in the Chicago projects where the population is almost entirely African American. What's the significance of that?

I actually can't even think of another black antagonist aside from Blacula, which hardly counts in my opinion.

I'd like to see Candyman get a good remake. I doubt it would happen, but who knows?

You guys are making me want to see Candyman. I'll see what I'm doing tomorrow.

Speaking of remakes, does anyone think Gus Van Sant's 1998 remake of Psycho is actually - dare I say it - underrated?

It's not better than Hitchcock's original by any means (I mean ANY means), but it holds its own as its own movie. Vince Vaughn actually nailed that role, and Anne Heche was surprisingly wonderful.

I actually think, without a doubt, it's one of the most head-scratching, fascinating projects in Hollywood history. Virtually nothing like it has been (or will be) done again. It's such a bizarre, WTF concept, to remake a Hitchcock film (or any film for that matter), precisely 100% shot-for-shot, down to the timing of the editing. Unheard of.

I have hated the Psycho remake since the first and only time I saw it, I hold the original so dearly to my heart, I found nothing about it good.

Damn. Give it another shot.

The hard thing to do (the impossible thing to do), is to pretend like the original doesn't exist. If you can do that, it's a pretty good experience.

And I hear you man. The original is one of the finest movies ever made.

Another movie I'd like to see get a good remake is Pumpkin Head.

Pumpkinhead is one horror film that with the right budget, story and cast could be remade and made into a terrifying character again though those crappy syfy sequels did leave a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths, the original is awesome already watched it as part of Marathon.

Just watched that two nights ago and enjoyed it just as much as I did when I was younger.

What is with all this talk about remaking good to great horror films? Candyman? Hellraiser??

When are people going to learn that the movies that should be remade are the ones that had good ideas behind them but the overall movie turned out to be ****.

So Hellraiser, Candyman and Pumpkin Head should get good good remakes. What are some other great films that should be remade?

Maniac Cop.

Actually I'm becoming less of a fan of remakes and most of them seem pointless. I did enjoy Evil Dead but that doesn't trump the original. I like to think of it as a reboot. It would be hard to imagine Candyman without Tony Todd.
