Watched Pet Semetary earlier now onto one of my personal favorites, IMO the best werewolf film ever made An American Werewolf in London.

Due to my schedule, I rarely have time to slide in a horror film (although on the week of Halloween, I will put time aside.) Lately, I have been watching a diluted form of horror: Scooby Doo: Mystery Inc. The writing is good and design is excellent: the backgrounds bleed atmosphere.

I've been doing pretty much the same thing, only with Buffy The Vampire Slayer. I'm already up to Season Six. I'm looking forward to watching the musical episode "Once More With Feeling". I just bought the musical soundtrack to that episode today, replacing my old one that was stolen (along with the rest of my Halloween Music CDs). Now I just gotta get a CD with Thriller, Ghostbusters, A Nightmare On My Street, The Monster Mash, and Werewolves Of London all by their original artists and on one CD (almost impossible to get).

I'm watching Scream. The first ten minutes is cinema at its finest. It's a truly intense and gut-wrenching scene.

One film I'd like to see get a good remake is The Beyond. To this very day the original still haunts me!

One if the greatest horror movie openings of all-tine. If that had been the entire movie I think is I'd have been satisfied.

I love the film overall, the thing that grinds my gears is that when the two guys are revealed to be the killers and they have the voice changer box, their voice doesn't sound like the killer on the phone. It's something that bothers me.

I saw American Scream documentary, it was decent. It was kinda too slow, and I guess I like documentaries with a narrator. I also kinda feel they could of gotten some more "professional" people do base it on. Overall probably a 6.0/10.

That would have defeated the point of the documentary. It's about how average citizens or neighbors help keep the spirit of Halloween alive and inspire others. It would have been boring to just show professionals who get paid/funding. It was great seeing what people with a limited amount of money could do.

Not to mention, the guy at the end who actually tries to go professional after his job lays him off...his house setup was damn good for not having a massive budget and figuring all of that stuff out on his own over the years.

well we didn't get to see much of that werewolf. and, according to the commentary, it was something that was better left concealed. still one of my favorite werewolf movies. i still kind of prefer the werewolf from The Howling.

See it is a tough choice because The Howling is amazing as well and I love it on the same level, I think I just like the comedic tone of AAWIL a little better and the characters are a tad more likable, but The Howling is definitely a close second as my favorite werewolf related film of all time.

you're talking about the difference between hearing the voice changer over the phone and in person.

for clarification, i don't like the Howling more than AAWIL; just the look of the beast. my favorite werewolf movie is actually a great deal cheesier; Stephen King's Silver Bullet. it's mainly the nostalgia factor because i watched it so many times as a kid. plus, i just like the idea of a reverend being the werewolf. :woot:

p.s. David from American Werewolf in London was far more likable than the cheating husband from the Howling. it's so odd to think if the nurse being part of the shadow council in the Avengers movie.

Silver Bullet is really good and may be in my top 5, but nowhere near AAWIL or TH. I would rank like this

1. An American Werewolf in London
2. The Howling
3. The Wolf-Man (1941)
4. Dog Soldiers
5. Silver Bullet

Silver Bullet is also my favorite werewolf movie. I've always been a fan of Gary Busey. His line delivery cracks me up.

Well the reason I stated it as "professionals" I meant people that were better but weren't too extreme. I mean, I liked the main guy they focused on whereas I wasn't too crazy about the other two guys. If they had just focused on that one guy alone or found two other people that were at his level but not professionals that would've been good, IMO. Basically, when they weren't talking to the main guy, I kinda lost interest because the other two seemed so, lack of a better term, lame.

I would like to see a documentary on the hardcore people though. I'm honestly more interested in how they do it, then why they do it as well. That's why I like shows like Face Off, making of/behind the scenes videos, and whatnot. I love seeing how they come up with those ideas and actually make them real.

"hey, why do you let him call you jack@$$?"

"hee haw hee haaalways calls me that."

Today's screenings included My Bloody Valentine (1981) and now onto Poltergeist.

I finally got around to watching The Bay, which is is on netflix.

Overall I thought it was pretty good. The film is found footage but in a fashion that makes far more sense than "this person just keeps filming!" The film is a type of confession/expose assembled from a larger number of sources, more similar to an epistolary novel, the way Dracula was written as journal entries and news paper stories and the like.

The film has a pretty interesting hook, builds its threat well, has some disturbing moments and is pretty effective but unfortunately it is undercut towards the last portion of the film by giving into the found footage genre's worst habit: breaking with the format. While it is a video that is edited together by the narrator, there is no damn reason why there should be horror film music. It is a major pet peeve of mine when it comes to these things. It completely ruins the effect and its a shame as this film had built its self up quite well. Also one of the final shots of the film is absolutely not found footage, it just kind of slips into normal movie mode for a moment and it is not at all clear what is intended with the shot.

Still, pretty good movie, worth checking out.

7/10
