Jason X 6.0/10
New Nightmare 7.5/10

And that my friends concludes my Freddy/Jason marathon.

The more up today piece but nowhere near as in depth as the book.

My point was that he didn't want to call the TV series Friday the 13th and he was a producer on that show.
I must have misread your post I thought you were talking about Jason Goes to Hell not F13th: The Series I apologize, Mancuso did mention in the documentary that he never wanted to name the tv series after F13.

I am curious though you keep putting down the new documentary, did you not enjoy it?

Stake Land is okay...I don't think it was this awesome new height of vampire horror or anything like some say.

I just realized the other day how funny it is that when watching a horror movie that use to scare the crap outta me as a child and haunted me for years I can now watch and laugh at. Instead of being scared they are now guilty pleasures to watch.

I remember as a kid (since my mom worked at a video store and I had endless access), I was deathly afraid of The Demonic Toys, Critters, Chucky, and I cant remember the name but on the cover it has the demon looking creatures coming out of the toilet. I was scared to death of these movies as a kid for years. watched them for the first time again over the past couple of years and I love them LOL my fear has turned into guilty pleasures. I'm sure there are several other movies I feel the same about as well. Any of you have this same experience?

for some reason, i never saw that one as a kid. i stared at the cover plenty of times. but it was never rented. the second 'House' movie is a lot goofier than i remember it being (same for the first, now that i think about it).

You say that as if it is a slam against ME...when in fact it shouldn't be. Some of the reviews for Stake Land are REALLY overblown. I've heard that it's one of the best vampires movies of all time blah blah blah (which...given that most vampire movies are awful..maybe it should be in the running). If memory serves it was really weak with characterization, and I wish it had developed the religious angle more. It's okay...I don't regret watching it, but let's not get crazy with the praise.

y'know what vampire movie i should have hated but didn't? Forsaken. i think they at least tried to do something different. maybe it was the WB casting that initially irked me. but i guess it had a similar feel to (but not as cool as) Near Dark.

I saw Stake Land awhile back and really enjoyed it. Not sure if I would buy it on home video, but it was definitely one of the better vampire films.

Watching in beautiful HD Friday the 13th: The New Blood, one of my personal favorites of all time.

I'm holding out hope that Byzantium will be/is a great vampire film. The trailers are good, and I think it has some real potential.

Watch Vamp.

I've seen that one a couple of times. The first time I watched it I was really young and found it to be creepy. I watched it about 5 months ago and didn't like it. :csad:

Just watched Europa Report

I'm having a streak where I'll watch two movies that cover fairly similar ground (at least thematically) within days of one another. (I Spit on Your Grave 2 and The Seasoning House, Antiviral and Errors of the Human Body). Europa Report is about a space mission gone awry that is publicized as being very scientifically accurate. Of course, I just saw Gravity the other day, so I can't help but compare the two (then again, I also saw Christian Slater's new film Stranded, which also covers some of the same ground...but let's forget about that one as it is outclassed by both of the others). Gravity is a better movie-going experience, for sure. I tend to have a pet peeve about movies that start...and then after a few minutes will flash "6 months ago" or whatever and then spend half the film catching up to the opening scene. It just bothers me. It's about a crew that goes to Europa to see if they can find water and life. Bad things happen. It is a fairly effective space-set Horror movie, though it doesn't show much as far as the threat goes. Also, one of the characters dies from a completely unrelated incident (that brought Gravity to mind) that really had nothing at all to do with the plot. By all means...watch it if you're into this sort of movie...but see Gravity on the big screen. Also, Moon is still my favorite space movie of the last few years...not Horror...but watch it anyway,

I just watched Europa Report and Moon last week, loved them both. Still need to see Gravity though!

Piper...watch Gravity in IMAX 3D...do not screw yourself over by waiting for the DVD.

I'll point out that I HATE 3D...and find that virtually every film I've ever seen in 3D was either not at all improved or actually hurt by the process...but Gravity is the rare film that really needs to be seen that way. There's a few hokey moments, but it was well worth the price of admission. It felt like I was watching an event.

If only we could get it uncut :(

Well that brings another point about Crystal Lake Memories before watching it I was super disappointed in the new blu-ray set for them not including or at least trying to, an uncut version of TNB.

I didn't fully realize till after watching CLM that they admit freely that all of those reels of footage are long but gone, and eve if they wanted to the footage is no longer in existence to make the uncut version. I truly had no idea that was the case until watching the doc, and I promise I do plan on reading the book at some point ;)

I've just watched the theatrical cut if Rob Zombies a Halloween having owned it but after seeing the uncut version deciding no ****ing way. But I have to say I thought the theatrical version was alright, which is a bug step up considering I hated it after seeing the uncut version. The first portion which I couldn't stand is considerably cut down thankfully. The scene where Michael escapes from Smiths Grove is the cool one I saw on the trailers not the weird rapey thing that was in the uncut version.

The last hour which is the remake half didn't seem as bad after having what I think is a better start than the uncut version. I felt Zombie caught a cool vibe with this half and I actually think the cut death scenes makes them much better, more like the original although still far more blood. I do still think it lacked suspense but it made up for that in the vicious way Myers was portrayed. Scary in a different way I thought Tyler Mane owned it as Myers, while he didn't play the Shape he did his own thing and it worked. Still not an amazing film but one I surprisingly enjoyed revisiting, I still don't think I can stomach Zombies H2 though.
